In a heartwarming celebration of new beginnings, the Alex Alegieuno Omiogbemi (AAO) Foundation hosted its 4th annual Children’s New Year Party on January 1, 2025.

Founded by Senior High Chief (SHC) Alex Omiogbemi, thevevent brought together fifty orphaned and underprivileged children from various orphanages and underserved communities in Warri, Delta State.

The festive gathering took place at SHC Omiogbemi’s residence, which was transformed into a lively hub of joy and community spirit from 2:00 PM to 6:30 PM.

The day was filled with engaging activities designed to foster creativity and teamwork.

Children participated in a variety of games, including dance competitions, bouncing castle play, and lively rounds of musical chairs, all bringing smiles and cheers to the gathering.

The foundation ensured that every child’s needs were met, offering a delicious array of meals and refreshing drinks that complemented the festive mood.

To further enhance the occasion, each child received a gift package filled with toys, educational books, and learning materials, demonstrating the AAO Foundation’s commitment to the children’s educational and recreational well-being.

A particularly touching moment during the event was the announcement of the foundation’s scholarship program.

Notable among the beneficiaries was Edeifun Divine, an inspiring young girl who tragically lost her father while in primary school.

Upon completing her primary education, the AAO Foundation awarded her a full scholarship to support her education through university, showcasing the foundation’s dedication to making a meaningful impact in the lives of these children.

Other scholarship recipients, including Divine Monday, Efosa Glory, and Matthew Emmanuel, were also recognized, receiving full scholarships for their secondary education.

Friends of SHC Alex Omiogbemi graced the occasion, actively participating in the festivities.

They played a crucial role in distributing food and gift packs, ensuring that each child felt valued and welcomed.

Their involvement highlighted the community-centric spirit of the foundation.

Adding a personal touch, SHC Omiogbemi’s daughters, Anosi and Angel Alex-Omiogbemi, participated by creating and presenting ‘hope cards’ to the children.

These heartfelt cards, inscribed with words of encouragement, aimed to inspire confidence and a sense of belonging, making the day even more special.

Mr. Zion Oshiobugie, who leads projects for the AAO Foundation, emphasized the significance of the event, stating, “This annual New Year party is a cornerstone of our foundation’s mission.

“It’s about more than just a celebration; it’s about planting seeds of hope and opportunity in these young minds.

“Our ongoing support and initiatives like our scholarship program are geared toward nurturing potential and empowering future leaders of our community.”

Police Arrest ‘Self-Kidnapper’, One Other in Delta, Recovered N2 Million Ransom

The police in Delta State have arrested a girl identified as Princess Okolie for faking her kidnapping and subsequently collecting a ransom of N2,000,000.

The police made this known through a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe.

The statement explained that the command received a complaint on January 2, 2025, from one Mrs. Oliko Joy, who reported that her daughter, Princess Okolie, left the house on December 30, 2024, and did not return.

According to the statement, “the next day, the parents received a call stating that their daughter had been kidnapped and that a ransom of two million naira was being demanded.”

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, immediately directed the command’s Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-Crime Squad to ensure that the victim is rescued unharmed and that the suspect is arrested.”

“The commander of the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-Crime Squad, CSP Labe Joseph, detailed operatives who embarked on an intelligence-led investigation.”

“The other suspect, Prince Atigbi, was arrested after collecting a ransom of two million naira (N2,000,000).

“Upon his arrest, he stated that he was not an actual kidnapper but was playing along with his girlfriend, Princess Okolie.”

“The girl was also arrested, and she said that she faked her kidnapping so that they could obtain money from her parents.

“Both suspects are in custody, the ransom money has been recovered, and the investigation is ongoing.”

“The Commissioner of Police urges parents and guardians to take the upbringing of their children seriously and guide them in the ways of God so that, when they grow up, they won’t be a problem to their parents and society,” the statement added.

In a statement issued by the party’s Chairman in the state, Chief Solomon Arenyenka, the PDP described the reports as the work of unemployed political hirelings and their unscrupulous sponsors, who are deemed failed agents of destabilization and betrayal.

The statement made it clear: “We assert unequivocally that the faceless group of individuals spreading these rumors and presenting themselves as concerned leaders of the PDP are impostors and not members of our esteemed party.”

“We strongly condemn, in the strongest terms, the vile and malicious propaganda of these depraved perpetrators, particularly the key peddler—a notorious serial blackmailer and dishonest individual who will be remembered infamously for concocting lies as a means of survival.”

Less than 24 hours after a devastating fire, caused by a fallen tanker, destroyed several buildings in Agbor and claimed the lives of four individuals, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, reached out to express his condolences to the victims’ families.

The Governor delegated his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, to lead a team of senior government officials in visiting the bereaved families and assessing the extent of the damage.

During a video call with a husband of one of the victims, Oborevwori offered words of comfort, reminding them that only God understands the reasons behind such tragic events.

In statements to the press during the visit, Deputy Governor Onyeme emphasized the state government’s deep concern for those affected by the tragedy and assured them of forthcoming support.

“This incident was truly unfortunate,” he said. “We, as survivors, will do everything in our power to alleviate the hardships faced by the victims and their families.”

He continued, “Our Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has instructed us to assess the situation and express our sympathies to the families impacted by this tragedy.”

Elder Festus Adomugbor, the husband of one of the fire victims, expressed his gratitude for the swift response from the Delta State government.

“I would like to commend Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for his immediate action,” he stated. “While nothing can bring my wife back, I must acknowledge that I never expected such a significant delegation to come to my home.”

“My heart has been heavy since yesterday, and with my children by my side, the support from sympathizers has helped somewhat. However, I can’t help but worry about what will happen once these visits come to an end.”

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed his deepest sympathies to the families affected by the tragic fire incident involving a fallen diesel tanker in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area, which occurred on Sunday.

According to reports, the tanker experienced a brake failure while approaching a traffic light junction, leading to an explosion that resulted in the deaths of four individuals.

In addition to the fatalities, three others sustained varying degrees of injuries due to the fire and its aftermath.

In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori conveyed his condolences to the Ika South Local Government and community, denouncing the incident as horrific.

He offered prayers for the rapid recovery of the injured and strength for the families of those who lost their lives.

The Governor has instructed the State Ministry of Health, the State Emergency Management Agency, and other relevant organizations to take immediate action to provide essential support to all those impacted by the incident.

He also commended the efforts of the Fire Service, local residents of Ika South, and security agencies for their swift response in extinguishing the flames and assisting those affected by this unfortunate event.
