In a dramatic early-morning operation that sent shockwaves through the criminal underworld, the Delta State Police Command’s elite Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) has smashed a major drug trafficking ring, arresting two suspected kingpins and seizing a massive cache of dangerous narcotics in the Amukpe area of Sapele Local Government Area.

In a press release by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, stated that the raid was unfolded at approximately 5:30 a.m. on May 22, 2026, and targeted a secret hideout believed to be the nerve center of a deadly drug distribution network.

According to the statement, “Acting on a tip-off from credible intelligence sources, the operatives stormed the location and caught the suspects red-handed.

The two arrested suspects have been identified as Onyedikachi, a 40-year-old male, and Edna Karaki, a 36-year-old female, both residents of Amukpe, Sapele.

“The pair are now in police custody, where they are reportedly singing like canaries.

“During a thorough search of the hideout, law enforcement officers uncovered a shocking haul of illicit and controlled substances, including Tramadol, CSC Codeine, Molly, Swinol, Vagadine, Red Boy, Zaza, Taker, and several other substances suspected to be highly harmful drugs.

“The sheer volume of the seized items has raised alarm bells among security officials.

“Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspects were deeply involved in the illegal sale and distribution of these dangerous substances.

“During interrogation, they allegedly confessed to dealing in controlled drugs, though authorities are still working to unravel the full extent of their criminal enterprise.

The Commissioner of Police for Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has personally commended the VCRU operatives for their bravery and professionalism.

He described the operation as a major victory in the ongoing war against drug trafficking and violent crime in the state.

“Drug abuse is the mother of all crimes,” the CP declared. “It fuels cultism, armed robbery, and other violent offences that threaten the peace of our communities. We will not rest until every drug den in Delta State is wiped out.”

The police chief also called on members of the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious persons or activities through the Command Control Room on 08036684974 or the VCRU on 09123772889.

As the investigation continues, residents of Sapele and beyond are breathing a sigh of relief, knowing that two dangerous drug dealers have been taken off the streets.
