Orhuwhorun Community in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State has sworn in a seven-man committee to conduct elections for new executive officers.

Those sworn in include Hon. Alex Kemeruvwe (Chairman), Chief Sylvanus Okpetu, Esq. (Publicity Secretary), Mr. Gibson Fenfe, Esq. (Legal Adviser), Mr. Agbeifere Wilson Pender, Esq. (Member), Mr. Ator Okolosi (Member), Mr. Mike Kporho Oputu (Member) and a female member that will be added soonest.

The swearing-in ceremony was conducted in line with Section 65.1 of the Orhuwhorun Development Union constitution.
The provision states that the Orhuwhorun Independent Electoral Commission (OIEC) shall have seven appointed officers, with each of the three districts of Orhuwhorun appointing one member.
The Board of Trustees will appoint the four key officers, at least one of whom must be female.
“In the composition, each district will have two representatives, but will appoint a non-indigene from any district as Publicity Secretary,” the constitution stipulates.
The commission comprises: Chairman (District A), Legal Adviser (District B), Secretary (District C), Publicity Secretary (non-indigene from any district), First Member (District B), Second Member (District C), and Third Member (District A).
“These positions shall be rotated among the three districts. The Chairman of OIEC will notify the Board of Trustees at the end of the tenure to enable rotation in equity,” the constitution adds.
“OIEC executives shall be sworn in by any legal member of the bench—a serving or retired magistrate, High Court judge, or Justice of the Peace. They can also be sworn in by any House of Assembly member at the Orhuwhorun Town Hall, at the instance of the Central Executive Committee, the Central Working Committee, the Board of Trustees, and the Ovie-in-Council.”
In line with the above, Her Lordship, Chief Mrs. Evelyn Akpene, Magistrate of the Orhuwhorun Magistrate Court, swore in the seven-member committee, charging them to discharge their duties according to the dictates of the Orhuwhorun Constitution.
In his acceptance speech, Hon. Alex Kemeruvwe, Chairman of the committee, thanked the Orhuwhorun Community President General and members of the Board of Trustees for the confidence reposed in them.
He promised, on behalf of the newly sworn-in committee, to discharge their duties effectively and usher in new executives to pilot the affairs of the community for the next three years.
The President General of Orhuwhorun Community, Engr. Godspower Uviejitobor, thanked Her Lordship for conducting the swearing-in and commended the newly constituted electoral committee for accepting to work for the betterment of the community.
He also thanked the people of Orhuwhorun for always supporting his administration, which he said has brought peace and development.
Members of the Ewheya, elderly men, youths, girls, and women attended the meeting, which ended with songs of solidarity for the President General for a job well done.
