Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has praised Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as a unifying force and exemplary political leader, a sentiment echoed during his son’s wedding in Asaba, which brought together diverse personalities across political affiliations.

President Tinubu conveyed this message through the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, during the wedding ceremony of Mr. Clinton Oborevwori and his bride, Knowledge Davidson, held at the Living Faith Church in Asaba on Saturday.

In his remarks, Keyamo highlighted Governor Oborevwori’s dedication to serving all citizens of Delta State since taking office, describing him as a governor for everyone, regardless of their political or religious backgrounds.

He emphasized that if leaders focus on unity rather than division, Nigeria can become a better place for all its citizens.

While extending his best wishes to the newlyweds, President Tinubu encouraged them to center their marriage around faith and to cherish their marital vows.

The management and staff of the Delta State House of Assembly have received a commitment for improved welfare beginning in 2025.

During a year-end celebration held at the State Assembly Complex in Asaba, the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, conveyed this assurance to the attendees.

In his address, Speaker Guwor commended the board, management team, and all staff members affiliated with the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) for their dedication to their roles. He emphasized that the success of the state legislature would not have been possible without a harmonious working environment, free of violence.

Guwor expressed gratitude for the unity and support shown to all members of the House, promising that their needs will be prioritized in the coming year. He emphasized that a happy and conducive workplace is essential for enhancing productivity.

EFCC Targets Major Cybercrime Hubs, as NBM Africa Commends Efforts

The Neo Black Movement (NBM) of Africa has praised the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), under the leadership of Inspector General Kayode Egbetokun, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), led by Mr. Ola Olukoyede, for successfully dismantling two significant cybercrime operations in Abuja and Lagos.

In a statement released by its President, Olorogun Ese Kakor, on Monday, the NBM lauded the EFCC’s apprehension of 792 suspects in Lagos as a noteworthy achievement in the ongoing battle against fraud, cybercrime, and money laundering on a global scale.

The organization specifically recognized the arrest of approximately 400 foreign nationals—primarily from China, the Arab world, the Philippines, and other regions—during these operations. NBM emphasized that this reinforces their stance regarding the involvement of some foreign actors in tarnishing Nigeria’s reputation.

The NBM of Africa commended the Nigerian security forces for demonstrating exemplary capabilities in intelligence gathering, information analysis, and international collaboration.

However, they urged INTERPOL to validate its reports regarding the arrests of over 300 Nigerians by providing the names, photos, and locations of the individuals for further investigation and prosecution by the EFCC and NPF.

The organization reiterated that widely circulated videos claiming to show the arrests of over 300 individuals do not accurately represent Nigerians, as the footage features women who appear to be of Filipino descent.

The NBM noted that Nigerian security agencies maintain comprehensive records of all citizens and should be able to confirm the identities of those listed by INTERPOL.

They stated that cooperation between INTERPOL and Nigerian law enforcement would significantly enhance the effectiveness of efforts to combat cybercrime and other social issues.

While expressing concern over the potential damage caused by the release of these misleading videos, NBM called for a thorough investigation to counteract any attempts to undermine Nigeria’s image on the international stage.

In their statement, NBM expressed gratitude to the members of the NPF and the EFCC for their recent successes against cybercrime centers in Abuja and Lagos.

“The arrests made underscore the exceptional intelligence-gathering capabilities of our security agencies,” the statement read.

The organization emphasized the importance of taking cybercrime more seriously, urging authorities not to link innocent groups to criminal activities in efforts to disparage Nigeria—a country dedicated to combating cybercrime.

Highlighting troubling instances of foreigners engaging in cybercrime while posing as Nigerians, NBM referenced a case involving a 67-year-old American named Michael Neu, who allegedly masqueraded as a Nigerian prince to defraud numerous victims.

The organization called upon the Nigerian government to pursue the extradition of such individuals for prosecution, emphasizing the negative impact of their actions on the nation’s reputation.

Furthermore, NBM urged INTERPOL to follow through with prosecuting all individuals implicated in its reports, particularly those identified as members of Black Axe, to deter others, especially Nigerian youth, from engaging in criminal activities.

They reiterated that the Neo Black Movement (NBM) of Africa is not associated with Black Axe and should not be conflated with it, asserting that such associations are both racially insensitive and defamatory.

“Our organization comprises individuals from various walks of life, including senior citizens. It is disheartening to see efforts to malign our name due to the word ‘Black’ in our title,” they stated.

“We refuse to alter our name to appease anyone. The term ‘Black’ in Neo Black Movement is a reflection of our identity that we proudly uphold.”

Finally, NBM urged local and international security agencies to focus on apprehending those who have committed crimes, distancing themselves from any wrongful connections made to Black Axe.

“NBM of Africa stands ready to assist in addressing the challenges of cybercrime by providing information and support as needed,” they concluded.

On Wednesday, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, the First Lady of Delta State, celebrated an end-of-year banquet honoring the wives of traditional rulers and 250 market women from across the state’s 25 Local Government Areas.

The gathering, organized by her philanthropic organization, the You Matter Charity Foundation, took place in the Banquet Hall at Government House, Asaba.

Deaconess Oborevwori expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to host the second edition of this event and to meet the queens for the first time.

“It is truly wonderful to see everyone here today; their presence adds vibrancy to this occasion, and everyone looks radiant and healthy. Our initial meeting with the market women established a lasting relationship, one that I deeply cherish,” she remarked.

Reflecting on her campaign promise to empower market women, she acknowledged initial skepticism regarding her commitment.

However, with the support of her husband, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, she affirmed her dedication to fulfilling that promise, vowing to continue this annual celebration throughout her husband’s term in office.

In the past year, Deaconess Oborevwori noted that her efforts led to the empowerment of 1,000 petty traders through the Renewed Hope Initiative, championed by Senator Oluremi Tinubu and her husband.

Oborevwori Administration Initiates Significant Development Initiatives for Deltans – Izeze

Delta State’s Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, declared on Thursday that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is actively delivering on his commitment to provide substantial development for the residents of the state.

Izeze made these remarks while evaluating a 1.192 km stretch of internal roads, including Benjamin Osaragbaje, Orhorhor Road, Orhorhor link road, and Chechester Road in Sapele, located in the Sapele Local Government Area.

He emphasized that the construction of these roads aligns with the “MORE Agenda,” a framework of impactful development that Governor Oborevwori pledged to the people of Delta.

“Governor Oborevwori assured the people that his administration would be inclusive,” Izeze stated.

“During his visit to these roads over the Christmas holidays in 2023, he witnessed their deteriorating condition and promptly expressed his commitment to rehabilitating the entire stretch.

“Today, I am pleased to note that the drainage systems have been completed, and work is underway on the binder and friction course. We only need to clear the drains and carry out road markings before the commissioning.”

“This development stands as a clear example of a promise fulfilled; he has honored the pledge made to the local community during his December visit.”

On behalf of Sapele’s residents, Izeze extended his gratitude to Governor Oborevwori for upholding his commitment and acknowledged the community for providing a conducive environment for the engineers and contractors working on the project.

Izeze further urged the community to maintain the newly constructed drains, stating, “With the drains now directed to flow into the river, it is essential for residents to keep them clean and functional, preventing any blockage that would hinder their purpose and create stagnant water, which could attract mosquitoes.”

Expressing confidence in the project’s quality, he remarked, “Based on my assessment alongside our engineering teams, I can confirm that this work adheres to the established standards as outlined in the Bill of Engineering Measurements and Evaluation and the Bill of Quantities.”

Local resident Chief Apolo Osaragbaje shared his appreciation, stating that the roads had previously been nearly impassable during the rainy season due to extensive flooding. He expressed gratitude to Governor Oborevwori for prioritizing the construction of the internal roads.

“I am thankful to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, whom I consider a ‘doer’ when it comes to governance, for his prompt action on this road project,” Osaragbaje commented.

“After just a few weeks in office, I was pleasantly surprised to see work commence, particularly by the expatriate contractor, Niger Cat. I am inclined to call him a ‘talk and do’ Governor.”

He praised the significant improvements observed, likening the administration’s contributions to those of Ogbemudia in 1972, and commended the contractor for executing the work with excellence and efficiency.

Yuletide: Police Ban Fireworks, Pyrotechnics in Delta

As part of their measures to ensure a safe and peaceful Yuletide season in the state, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, has announced a ban on fireworks and other pyrotechnics.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, who made this known in a statement on Thursday, said that the ban on fireworks is still in force and that the command will enforce it strictly.

According to the statement, the ban includes the use, sale, and display of pyrotechnics, which encompasses fireworks and firecrackers known as “knock-outs” and “bangers.”

“This decision is part of ongoing efforts to prevent and reduce crime, as experience shows that criminally minded individuals can take advantage of these items to unleash terror on law-abiding residents,” the statement said.

“On that note, parents and guardians are advised to caution their children and wards to desist from using these items, and retailers are equally warned to withdraw from displaying and selling these products. Anyone found in violation will be arrested and prosecuted.”

“To this end, the CP has directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Commanders to monitor strict compliance and address any violations within their respective areas of responsibility.”

“Furthermore, the CP appreciates the cooperation of Deltans in upholding this ban, and citizens are encouraged to report any incidents of the use or sale of fireworks to the nearest police station,” it added.

Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori was honored with the 2024 Integrity Man of the Year Award at the Integrity Group Leadership Summit and Awards held in Asaba on Wednesday.

Represented by the State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, the Governor expressed gratitude for the recognition, affirming his commitment to the continued development of the state.

During his remarks, Governor Oborevwori emphasized that the policies and programs initiated by his administration focus on making a positive impact on the socio-economic well-being of both urban and rural communities throughout Delta State. He also thanked the people of Delta for their steadfast support over the past 19 months, underscoring that his administration’s social initiatives, including free healthcare for pregnant women, children under five, and the elderly, as well as various empowerment projects, aim to enhance public health and strengthen economic opportunities.

On Tuesday, the First Lady of Nigeria, Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu, through the Social Investment Programme of the Renewed Hope Initiative, distributed Fifty Million Naira (₦50,000,000) to 250 elderly men and women from all 25 Local Government Areas in Delta State.

The distribution, which took place simultaneously across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, was conducted at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Asaba, where beneficiaries from various political affiliations were present.

Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, the wife of Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, represented Senator Tinubu at the event.

She announced that the Governor supported the First Lady’s initiative by providing 250 bags of rice, while she herself offered free medical check-ups and medications for the elderly participants.

In her speech, Senator Tinubu expressed her enthusiasm for the Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS), which is centered around the theme “Total Wellness: Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous Lifestyle.” She emphasized that this program is aimed at enhancing the well-being of senior citizens annually.

Senator Tinubu highlighted that the initiative seeks to assist 250 vulnerable seniors aged 65 and over from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, including veterans associated with the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association.

Furthermore, she mentioned that the Governing Board of the Renewed Hope Initiative decided to increase the financial support for the second edition of the program from ₦100,000 to ₦200,000, to provide additional aid to elderly citizens during this festive season.

The First Lady noted that the total amount disbursed nationwide is One Billion, Nine Hundred Million Naira (₦1,900,000,000), with each beneficiary receiving ₦200,000.

She wished the senior citizens a joyful holiday and a prosperous 2025 while encouraging them to prioritize their health through regular exercise and a balanced diet.
