Soldiers Were in Okpare to Ensure Compliance With Postponement of Community Conference Order – Ughelli South LG Council

Following reports of soldiers invading Okpare community earlier today, the Chairman of Ughelli South Local Government Council, Hon. Dr. Lucky Avweromre, has described the story as false and unfounded, stating that the soldiers’ presence in the community was to ensure compliance with the postponement of the conference order.

In a statement signed by the Secretary to the Local Government Council, Olorogun John Ewenede, on behalf of the council, it was clarified that the military presence in Okpare was not an invasion, as had been previously reported.

He added that the soldiers were on their routine community-to-community monitoring patrol in the Ughelli South Local Government Area.

The statement read: “To say that the military invaded Okpare community is untrue and false; they were in Okpare to ensure compliance with the Local Government Council Chairman’s order to postpone the community conference scheduled for December 26, 2024.”

“The conference was postponed due to a court order restraining and prohibiting community meetings pending court proceedings.

“The Ughelli South Local Government Council, led by Chairman Hon. Lucky I. Avweromre, Ph.D., (JP), requested the postponement to maintain peace and stability in the community.”

The letter was addressed to the President General of Okpare Community and copied to various security agencies, including the Commissioner of Police, Nigeria Police Force, and the Commanding Officer of the 181 Amphibious Battalion, Agbor, Delta State.

“The presence of the security agencies, including the police, the NSCDC, the Army, and the VGN, was aimed at preventing any potential defiance of the Chairman’s order and ensuring a peaceful resolution.

“It’s essential to correct the misleading information and provide an accurate account of the events.”

Yuletide: Brigadier General Nwoko Gives Palliatives to Over 500 Widows in Delta

The Acting Commandant of the Nigerian Army Intelligence School, Lagos, Brigadier General Kingsley Nwoko, has distributed palliatives to over 500 widows in Idumuje Ugboko and neighboring communities in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State.

Items distributed included bags of rice, wrappers, packets of Maggi, salt, buckets, and cash donations.

Brigadier General Nwoko, in his speech during the distribution on 24th December 2024, at Idumuje Ugboko, said that the gesture was part of the activities for the Beatrice Buno Nwoko (BBN) Foundation Widows Outreach 2024 edition.

He explained that the Beatrice Buno Nwoko Foundation was founded by him and his siblings after the passing of their mother in 2022.

According to him, this year’s edition is to mark the second anniversary of the BBN Foundation in memory of their late beloved mother, who was a widow for over 30 years.

“Our late mother was a phenomenal and virtuous woman who worked hard to ensure the success of all her children after the demise of our father in 1992.

“Despite being a widow for over 30 years, she was strong, focused, God-fearing, and imbued great qualities in her children, who are all doing well in various endeavors.

“Before the demise of my mother, Mrs. Beatrice Buno Nwoko, she was a pioneer member of the United English Baptist Church, Kaduna.

“She was also known as Hajiya Gwari Road among her close friends because of her accommodating disposition, as well as being a community leader in Idumuje Ugboko.

“She was a loving mother who derived pleasure in making other people happy. She believed that a good name is better than wealth, and she is loved by everyone around her,” he added.

He promised to continue to sustain the kind gesture to honor the legacy of his mother, who was seen as a mother with a heart of gold by the community.

The Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Rain Oil Limited, and Special Guest of Honor of the ceremony, Dr. Gabriel Ogbeche, congratulated Brigadier General Kingsley Nwanne Nwoko for setting up the Beatrice Buno Nwoko Widows Outreach in memory of his beloved mother.

“Brig Gen Nwoko no doubt has demonstrated that he has a heart of gold by reaching out to the widows in memory of his mother.

“My desire and prayer is for him to sustain the exercise, and for God to continue to bless him with resources.

“I use this opportunity to encourage the widows to borrow a leaf from the life of Brigadier General Nwoko’s mother.

“Like Brigadier General Nwoko said during his speech, his mother was a widow for over 30 years, and she was able to train all her children properly, and they are all doing well in their various endeavors.

“So widows should learn from that; no matter the adversity you find yourself in, you should remain true to your vision and to yourself, and if you stay strong, you will get to this point,” he added.

In her speech on behalf of the widows, the women leader, Angela Umuna, Omu of Idumuje Ugboko, thanked Brigadier General Nwoko and his siblings for the widows outreach and noted that this would be a memorable and enjoyable Christmas, praying for the Nwoko family for peace, progress, and prosperity.

The Beatrice Buno Nwoko Widows Outreach 2024 edition had in attendance senior military officers, captains of industry, friends from the United States of America, as well as other prominent personalities from the community.

The member representing Ughelli South Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Festus Utuama, has donated N2,000,000 to the PDP in the LGA and also distributed cows, rice, groundnut oil, hampers, and other items to his constituents to celebrate Christmas.

The items distributed over several days were given to ward executives, party leaders, the elderly, youth, and women.

In his remarks, Utuama said that the items were given to ensure that no family was left out of the Christmas celebration.

He noted that apart from the items he donated to the party and all the wards, he also presented two cows and a cash donation of N1 million to the Otu-Jeremi youths for their Christmas celebration.

He also acknowledged the contributions of non-indigenes residing in Otu-Jeremi and Ughelli South, gifting them a substantial cash donation of N200,000 for inclusivity and mutual coexistence within the community.

He stated further that his act of goodwill was part of his effort to promote harmony and shared prosperity across the constituency, especially during this Christmas season.
