By Sunday Apah

On Tuesday, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State officially inaugurated a new cluster of housing units along with supporting infrastructure in the Okuama community, located in the Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state.

This significant event represents a crucial step in fulfilling the government’s promise to reconstruct the community, which suffered substantial devastation in March 2024 following the tragic loss of 17 Nigerian Army personnel.

The inauguration marks the end of a prolonged period of uncertainty and signifies a hopeful new beginning for the displaced residents of Okuama.

Represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, Governor Oborevwori expressed his heartfelt sentiments during the ceremony, stating that this occasion is more than just a formal event; it symbolizes a moment of renewal and an opportunity to turn from hardship toward hope.

“We are gathered here not merely to inaugurate structures but to reaffirm our commitment to a future filled with peace, dignity, and shared prosperity,” he remarked.

Acknowledging the community’s painful past, the governor emphasized the importance of healing and collective rebuilding. “The memories of what happened are still fresh, and the scars remain, but we have decided to pursue a path focused on reconstruction and reconciliation,” he added. He portrayed the resettlement camp not just as a collection of buildings, but as a cornerstone for the revival of community life and stability.

Governor Oborevwori reiterated that his administration’s dedication to rebuilding communities is guided by the principles of the MORE Agenda, which aims to restore trust and uphold the dignity of all residents in Delta State.

He encouraged the people of Okuama to embrace this fresh start with courage and unity, emphasizing that the future of the community rests on their ability to maintain peace and protect the facilities provided by the government.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Ughelli South Local Government Council, Hon. Lucky Avweromre, noted that the construction of the Community Resettlement Center was a local government initiative.

He highlighted the significance of the commissioning in fulfilling campaign promises designed to improve peace, unity, innovation, and infrastructural development within the region.

Avweromre stressed the necessity for the community to take ownership of the project, ensuring its proper utilization for the benefit of all residents.

He also appealed for vigilant protection of government property against vandalism and destruction.

The chairman acknowledged the governor’s efforts in enhancing educational and health facilities in Okuama, including the establishment of a primary school, secondary school, and health center.

In a collective address, community representatives Mr. Okrika Emmanuel and Comrade Akemor Victor extended their gratitude to Governor Oborevwori for his unwavering support.

They reflected on the shocking events of March 14, 2024, that devastated their community, acknowledging the governor’s intervention as a crucial lifeline. “We promise to support your government in fostering peace in our environment; we are grateful to have a leader who listens to the people,” they stated.

The completed project features 40 individual housing units, including two buildings, each equipped with ten toilets and bathrooms, a solar-powered water reticulation system, and a paved walkway connecting all structures.

This development not only provides shelter but also aims to restore hope and stability to the Okuama community.

UPU National Presidential Race: Why Ohwofa Stands Taller

0

The 2025 UPU election is not a ceremonial gathering; it is a battle for the soul, unity, and direction of the Urhobo Nation.

At this defining moment, the Urhobo cannot afford emotional mistakes or experiments dressed in empty promises.

The destiny of our people demands leadership with credibility, intelligence, and national respect, not candidates whose influence vanishes the moment they leave their immediate community.

Those who oppose Chief Simeon Akpovwoghokohwo Ohwofa are not the problem; the real problem is the misinformation, fear, and narrow interests that blind some people to the danger of gambling with Urhobo’s future.

The truth is simple: Urhobo needs a President General who can command respect in Abuja, influence development across all 24 kingdoms without bias, and speak for Urhobo in a language the nation understands.

This is not the time for untested men or regional champions who cannot stand on a national stage.

This is the time for competence, maturity, and proven capacity—qualities that only Chief Simeon Ohwofa embodies.

Chief Ohwofa is a University of Ibadan–trained Agricultural Biochemist and Nutrition expert with an MBA from the University of Benin, who rose to the position of Department Head in Roche Nigeria Limited (Vitamin Division), one of the world’s most reputable global companies, before retiring honorably in 1995. He is the founder and Managing Director of Nutrivitas Limited and O.M. Simons Nigeria Limited, firms that have built capacity, created jobs, and contributed significantly to Nigeria’s food and animal-nutrition industry.

He has served as Coordinator of the distinguished Urhobo Historical Society (UHS), preserving Urhobo history, documentation, and identity. He is also a former President of the Urhobo Social Club, Lagos, the most influential gathering of Urhobo elites and professionals.

He has sponsored countless scholarships for Urhobo youths, supported community initiatives, and invested in education and empowerment.

No other candidate brings this blend of corporate experience, cultural stewardship, philanthropic engagement, and national-level respect. None.

The question on the lips of opponents is always the same: “What makes him different?” The answer is everything. A President General must be a symbol of neutrality, not a beneficiary of factional loyalty.

He must unite the young and old, carry the chiefs along, command the respect of the diaspora, and speak with a voice weighty enough to influence national decisions.

Those contesting against Chief Ohwofa may have good intentions, but leadership is not about intentions; it is about capacity. Popularity is not leadership. Political ambition is not service.

Experience cannot be formed overnight. While others talk, Chief Ohwofa’s life is evidence.

Those resisting his emergence are unknowingly resisting the most credible path to Urhobo unity, progress, and national visibility. A divided UPU weakens every community. A controversial President General puts Urhobo in chaos.

A partisan President General kills our collective voice. But Chief Ohwofa is the stabilizing force Urhobo desperately needs.

He has no political debts, no factional commitments, no bitterness, and no interest other than the survival and progress of the Urhobo people.

He is the bridge between generations, the conscience of the elites, the pride of the intellectual class, and the respected face of Urhobo identity at the national level.

The truth is undeniable: 2025 is not the year for mistakes. The next President General must defend Urhobo interests with authority, engage the government with credibility, attract development with influence, unite kingdoms without bias, and lead with wisdom and strength.

Chief Ohwofa can. Chief Ohwofa has. Chief Ohwofa will. Any opposition to his candidacy at this critical moment is opposition to Urhobo unity, dignity, and strategic relevance in Nigeria.

Pride, sentiment, and personal loyalty must give way to logic, truth, and the survival of our people. Chief Simeon Akpovwoghokohwo Ohwofa is not just the best choice; he is the only choice that guarantees stability, unity, and dignity for Urhobo.

Delta First Lady Awards Scholarships to Visually Impaired Students

By Sunday Apah

The wife of the Delta State Governor and founder of the You Matter Charity Foundation, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, has awarded scholarships to visually impaired students and empowered members of the blind community with food items and assistive devices during the foundation’s outreach program titled “Mission to the Visually Impaired,” which was held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, in Asaba.

Speaking at the event, Deaconess Oborevwori stated that the program was designed to extend love and support to the visually impaired and promote inclusivity through education, empowerment, and care.

She explained that the You Matter Charity Foundation has been actively supporting children with autism, special needs, and visual impairment by providing educational and vocational materials to enhance their learning and confidence.

According to her, society must move away from stigmatizing the visually impaired and instead recognize their intelligence, potential, and courage. “Too often, the visually impaired are regarded as lesser members of society, denied access to quality education, and sometimes treated as second-class citizens. But today, we are here to change that narrative,” she stated.

The Delta First Lady encouraged visually impaired students to strive for excellence and urged parents not to lose hope in their children’s potential. “The visually impaired have a special place in God’s creation and deserve every opportunity to thrive. Let us work with them by sharing knowledge, fighting poverty, and opening doors of opportunity,” she said.

As part of her empowerment initiative, Deaconess Oborevwori donated several assistive gadgets, including laptop computers with screen readers, Braille paper, slates and styluses, talking calculators, tactile learning sets, digital audio recorders, and talking watches and clocks, among other materials to aid their daily learning and foster independence.

She also distributed food items such as 120 bags of rice, 100 tubers of yam, palm oil, garri, noodles, salt, custard, and various household provisions to support the beneficiaries and their families.

In addition, the First Lady awarded full scholarships to four visually impaired students studying in different universities, covering their tuition and academic needs until graduation. She encouraged them to pursue excellence, describing education as a vital tool for empowerment and equality.

While commending the leadership of the Association of the Blind for their organization and resilience, Deaconess Oborevwori expressed optimism that the initiative would inspire renewed confidence and purpose among members of the association.

In her welcome remarks, the Director General of the You Matter Charity Foundation, Mrs. Lawrentta Ogbedo, described the event as a reaffirmation of the foundation’s commitment to inclusivity and social justice. She noted that the outreach demonstrates the right of every person to belong and participate fully in the development of society.

“The visually impaired are part of our community, and this initiative is our mother’s contribution to bridging the gap and ensuring no one is left behind in the journey of development. Food symbolizes love and care, and today we reaffirm that you are seen, valued, and loved,” Ogbedo said.

Deaconess Oborevwori concluded the event with words of encouragement drawn from 3 John 1:2, reminding the beneficiaries that their physical limitations do not define their purpose. “Though your physical sight may be limited, your vision of hope brings light and happiness to the world. Do not be discouraged; keep striving for the best,” she prayed.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Angela Ekure, a visually impaired broadcaster with the Delta State Broadcasting Service, expressed deep appreciation to the Governor’s wife for her generosity and compassion.

She noted that it was the first time the visually impaired community had received such meaningful attention from a First Lady in the state, describing the scholarships and donations as life-changing gestures that would ease their academic and financial challenges.

...Reiterates Dedication to the Development of Riverine Communities

By Sunday Apah

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori on Wednesday 12 November, 2025 emphasized his administration’s commitment to balanced development throughout the state, with particular focus on its riverine communities.

During the inauguration of the newly rehabilitated 12.1-kilometer Odimodi–Okuntu–Ogulagha Road in Burutu Local Government Area, Governor Oborevwori labeled the project as “a vital initiative that reconnects communities previously isolated by the difficult riverine landscape.”

He highlighted that this new road serves as evidence of his administration’s determination to deliver quality, enduring, and impactful infrastructure to all residents of Delta State.

“The excitement and joy evident today confirm that our administration is meeting the aspirations and needs of the people,” he stated.

“This road was initially built by SPDC many years ago but had fallen into disrepair. Upon my visit, I recognized its poor condition and committed to its rehabilitation. Today, we gather to officially open it for the benefit of our community and to honor God.”

The Governor pointed out that the road was constructed to rigorous engineering standards and tailored to endure the unique challenges presented by the Niger Delta’s environment.

He commended both the contractors and supervising engineers for their exceptional work, assuring that his administration ensures that all projects adhere to high standards of quality, accountability, and transparency.

“In Delta State, all contractors are promptly paid,” he affirmed. “We prioritize timely payments to ensure projects are completed on time. Consequently, you will not find abandoned projects here. Contractors prefer working in Delta State because they receive payment immediately upon proper completion of their work,” he added.

Governor Oborevwori mentioned that his administration continues to see through inherited projects while also launching new initiatives across the state.

He referenced the groundbreaking ceremony for the 12-kilometer segment of the Warri–Sapale–Benin Road, as well as upcoming developments such as the Otovwodo Flyover in Ughelli and the Uromi Junction Flyover in Agbor, among other significant roads and bridges aimed at improving connectivity and boosting economic activities.

He assured residents in the riverine areas that further development projects, including new roads, educational facilities, and shore protection measures, are forthcoming, stating that he is motivated by the trust and backing of the community.

“Our citizens in riverine communities deserve the very best. Given that a significant portion of the nation’s oil wealth is derived from this region, it is only right that they experience the benefits of governance in tangible ways. This road will enhance connectivity, support commerce and fishing, and improve the community’s economic prosperity,” Governor Oborevwori expressed.

Hon. Julius Pondi, the Member Representing Burutu Federal Constituency, also spoke at the event, expressing gratitude for the Governor’s focus on riverine areas, referring to the road project as “the start of even greater things ahead.”

He further thanked the Governor for appointing two commissioners from the constituency and pledged the support of the local populace.

“Your Excellency, we may not often express ourselves vocally, but our results speak volumes. You can count on Burutu to consistently deliver full support for you,” Pondi asserted.

Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Commissioner for Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, added that the project underscores Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to the riverine communities.

He elaborated that the road features varying pavement widths ranging from 6.5 to 10 meters, enhanced drainage systems, and the replacement of culverts with robust, flood-resistant structures.

“Even with the challenging terrain, His Excellency has demonstrated that no community in Delta State is too remote to receive development. This project, connecting Odimodi, Okuntu, and Ogulagha, will significantly improve the social and economic dynamics for our people,” noted Aniagwu.

In his welcome address, Hon. Julius Takeme, Chairman of Burutu Local Government, expressed gratitude to the Governor for his ongoing investments in the area, including the Technical College in Kiagbodo and the Ayakoromo Bridge, and urged him to prioritize the construction of a road to Burutu town, which remains the only local government headquarters in Nigeria without road access.

He assured the Governor of the community’s steadfast support, stating, “We are keeping you in our prayers, and come election time in 2027, our people will turn out in great numbers to vote for your reelection.”

Comrade Bright Guwor, Chairman of Ogulagha Community, offered his well wishes, praising the Governor for his “pragmatic leadership, ongoing engagement, and observable impact” throughout Delta State.

He remarked that the newly inaugurated road symbolizes not just a physical connection but also represents “unity, progress, and an enhanced quality of life.”

The event attracted numerous attendees, including the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo, the Leader, Engr Emeka Nwaobi, members of the State House of Assembly, senior government officials, community leaders, and thrilled residents who viewed the project as a significant transformation of the riverine corridor and a clear manifestation of the Oborevwori administration’s commitment to its “Renewed Hope for More Agenda.”

Ubulu-Uku Kingdom in Turmoil: Young King Criticized for Abandoning Throne, Delegating Powers to Uncles

0

By Sunday Apah

The drama surrounding Obi Chukwuka Noah Akaeze I, the young king of Ubulu-Uku Kingdom in Delta State, Nigeria, continues to unfold. As one of the youngest kings in Nigeria, he ascended the throne at just 15 years old in 2016 after his father, Obi Akaeze Edward Ofolue III, was tragically murdered.

The Ubulu-Uku Kingdom has been embroiled in controversy, with the Onishe (Prime Minister) Chief James Onwordi Ibori Ubulu affirming his support for the king, while others, including some of the king’s uncles, have allegedly attempted to undermine his authority.

Obi Chukwuka Noah Akaeze I has pursued his education abroad, earning a law degree from a UK university in 2019. Despite completing his education, he has refused to return home to lead his people.

The subjects of Ubulu-Uku Kingdom Ngozi Emma and Ofulue Chukwuweike have expressed frustration with the king’s absence, calling for him to return and lead the kingdom directly. They’ve also criticized his uncles for allegedly manipulating the situation and disrupting the kingdom’s peace.

They said the Obi should stop delegating powers to his uncles when there is a council of chiefs in the kingdom. They noted that they are tired of Obi remaining incommunicado despite efforts of the kingdom to reach out to him.

They said the Obi was crowned to lead his people from home and not from diaspora.

They also said the Obi’s uncles are being manipulative as they have been seen distorting the peace of the kingdom. They kick against the Obi handling powers to his uncle to take decisions which is against the Ubulu-Uku traditions.

“As at today, the kingdom is lacking behind because our Obi is unreachable. We don’t know if he is ready to lead us and if he is not ready, he should let us know and not abandoning the people who crowned him Obi.

This is unacceptable because as at today, nobody in the kingdom can reach out to the Obi.

The council of chiefs can’t reach him despite our efforts and it’s becoming worrisome.

The obi uncles told him not to communicate with anyone and that is why no chiefs in the kingdom can reach him.

The uncles are saying even the Delta State Government will have to passed through them before reaching the Obi.

The Peace and conflict resolution office make efforts at reaching out to the obi but it proved abortive, and the local government council has also reached out to the mother of the obi but the uncles blocked the communication.

Since the mother of the Obi left our kingdom, she hasn’t return back and she has disowned and bared the Obi from coming to Nigeria.

Today the Obi uncles have because issues in our kingdom, they are busy selling lands and building housing for themselves.

The obi as at today does not have house in his kingdom.

We love the Obi and we want him to return so he can lead us peacefully without his uncles interference.

We are tired of having an Obi who we can’t communicate to,” they said while urging the government of Delta State to look into the issues.

In a related development, The Onishe warned against disrespecting the throne, emphasizing the kingdom’s intolerance for insults or disrespect towards its traditional ruler or institution.
