Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has conveyed heartfelt congratulations to Deacon Kingsley Burutu Otuaro, the immediate past Deputy Governor, in celebration of his 57th birthday on April 16.

In a statement released in Asaba on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori acknowledged Otuaro’s dedicated service and significant contributions to the success of initiatives such as the ‘Smart Agenda’ and ‘Stronger Delta’ during his tenure in the previous administration.

The Governor highlighted Otuaro’s impactful efforts in fostering peace and stability within the Niger Delta region, particularly through his leadership of the Peace Advocacy Committee Against Oil Facility Vandalism. This initiative played a crucial role in enhancing oil production in Delta State and across the nation.

“In recognition of your invaluable contributions, you were honored with the Niger Delta Peace Ambassador Award in 2019 by Daily Independent Newspapers Limited,” Governor Oborevwori remarked.

“On behalf of my family, the state government, and the people of Delta State, I extend my warmest congratulations to you, my dear brother Deacon Kingsley Burutu Otuaro, as you celebrate your 57th birthday.

“Your unwavering commitment to our party and community has made a lasting impact on the advancement of Delta State.

“With your continued engagement and the support of fellow Deltans, we will strive to build the Delta of our dreams—one founded on peace, security, and sustainable progress.

Edjekota vs Ewu: Edjekota Community Calls for Immediate Release of Their People Arrested by Police

By Admin

The people of Edjekota Community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State have called for the immediate and unconditional release of all detained members of their community who were arrested during the violent events that transpired on April 7.

This was made known during a press briefing at Edjekota Townhall on April 13, 2025, by Pastor Oghenemakpor Uyo, Chairman of Edjekota-Ogor Community.

He stated, “On that day, which we described as ‘A BLACK MONDAY,’ a tragic turning point marked the Edjekota community, as members fell victim to unlawful arrests, brutality, and alleged senseless killings carried out by police officers under the Ughelli Area Command, with the complicity of certain individuals from Ewu community.”

Pastor Uyo recounted the harrowing incidents that unfolded when several community members engaged in clearing their farmlands were arrested without provocation.

He emphasized the total lack of proper procedure, noting that no formal invitation was extended for their appearance at the Ughelli Area Command. Instead, police officers acted on instructions allegedly originating from a family in Ewu town.

The sudden and unprovoked arrests raised serious questions about the legitimacy of the police’s actions and their disregard for community leadership.

Following the arrests, news spread rapidly, prompting the youths of Edjekota to stage a peaceful protest. However, their demonstration was met with violence.

Pastor Uyo revealed that a group of police officers and vigilantes confronted the protesters with excessive force.

Tragically, the confrontation resulted in the deaths of two innocent men: Mr. Amakashi Martins from Edjekota and Mr. Victor Akpojarho from Ewu.

Uyo described them as upstanding citizens unworthy of such brutality. To date, no accountability has been established for the police officers or vigilantes involved.

Pastor Uyo condemned this lack of response as an outright violation of human rights and a direct assault on the dignity of the Edjekota community.

He further criticized the Ughelli Area Command for attempting to misrepresent the facts, asserting that there is no ongoing crisis between Edjekota and Ewu communities, but rather a land dispute currently being addressed through legal channels.

The Edjekota community is demanding answers to several critical questions regarding the actions of the police on that day.

Pastor Uyo called for an investigation into who authorized the unlawful arrests and who ordered the police to open fire on peaceful protesters, resulting in the tragic loss of life.

He emphasized that these actions contradict directives issued by the Inspector General of Police, which prohibit police involvement in land disputes.

The community also reiterated its demand for the immediate and unconditional release of all detained members, denouncing attempts to criminalize their peaceful protest.

Pastor Uyo urged the Inspector General of Police to take charge of the investigation and emphasized the need for accountability among the officers involved.

He posited that the Edjekota community will not rest until justice is served.

He stated that this fight transcends the immediate incident, standing for the dignity, rights, and peace of the entire community.

He called upon the Delta State Government to establish a Commission of Inquiry to investigate the actions of the police and vigilantes involved in this tragic event and to ensure justice for the affected families.

The Edjekota community remains resolute in their demand for justice and accountability, calling on all supportive voices to stand with them in their pursuit of a fair and just resolution.

Ughievwen Monarch Conferred Chieftaincy Titles on Three Indigenes of the Kingdom

By Sunday Apah

His Royal Majesty, Matthew Ediri Egbi, Owahwa II, Okobaro of Ughievwen Kingdom, has conferred chieftaincy titles on three illustrious indigenes of Ughievwen Kingdom.

The chieftaincy title conferral was in recognition of their immense contributions to the development of the kingdom and humanity.

The ceremony, held at the palace grounds of Ughievwen Kingdom, was attended by the chairman of Udu Local Government, Olorogun Vincent Oyibode, and other prominent dignitaries from within and outside Nigeria.

Those conferred with chieftaincy titles by the Okobaro of Ughievwen Kingdom include Chief Onos Gasper Ighwre, who was named Ohwojero of Ughievwen Kingdom; his wife, Chief Mrs. Johanna Sogalla, who received the title of Ochucko-Ohwojero of the Kingdom; and Chief Mrs. Rita Osifo, who was awarded the title of Ochucko-Oboroghene of Ughievwen Kingdom.

The Okobaro of Ughievwen Kingdom, while conferring the titles on the new chiefs, expressed his delight at seeing the culture of Ughievwen Kingdom being embraced and revived by the younger generation.

However, he warned the new chiefs against engaging in acts that would bring the name of the kingdom into disrepute.

While stating that chieftaincy in Ughievwen Kingdom is devoid of any fetish practices, Owahwa II admonished the chiefs to avoid any actions that contradict biblical teachings, noting that the Bible presented to them remains the only guide for chieftaincy in the kingdom.

The monarch also urged the chiefs to be hardworking and not to use their titles to oppress the poor among them, nor to contravene the laws governing chieftaincy in the kingdom, warning that anyone found indulging in unholy acts would be stripped of their title.

The chairman of Udu Local Government, Olorogun Vincent Oyibode, took the opportunity to appeal to the indigenes of the kingdom to rally around Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, whom he described as a Godsend to the state.

In an interview, some of the chiefs commended the Okobaro of Ughievwen Kingdom for the recognition, promising not to disappoint the kingdom.

To conclude the event, the popular Udje of Ughievwen Kingdom performed to add excitement to the chieftaincy celebration.

Task of Overseeing the Construction of a Modern Police Station is Challenging – Agbede-Zuokumor

By Sunday Apah

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Ugborikoko Division in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, CSP Omosetemi Agbede-Zuokumor, has credited the successful completion of the new police station to the determination of Tantita’s management and their commitment to ensuring a quality project.

In a goodwill message delivered at the commissioning ceremony held last Friday, April 11, 2024, CSP Zuokumor shared the difficulties she faced while supervising the construction but expressed her unwavering focus and perseverance throughout the process.

She specifically acknowledged the management of Tantita, including its Chairman, High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo (also known as Tompolo), and the Company’s Managing Director, Chief Kestin Pondi, for their trust in her leadership.

She also appreciated the support from the senior hierarchy of the police force, both locally and nationally, for their assistance in getting the project off the ground.

Her speech included the following remarks: “It is with great pride and gratitude that I stand here as the 10th Divisional Police Officer of Ugborikoko Division. This occasion represents a significant milestone not just for our division but for the Nigerian Police Force and the community we serve.”

“When I took on this role on June 10, 2024, I was confronted with a daunting reality: the former police station was in such disrepair that it was unworthy of the dedicated officers who served there.”

“Understanding the urgent need for change, I contacted my trusted friend and brother-in-law, the Managing Director of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd. His steadfast support in our vision for a new, modern police station has been crucial in making this dream a reality.”

“Today, we gather here to celebrate this remarkable structure, officially inaugurated following the laying of its foundation on July 10, 2024. We honor seven months of hard work and dedication.”

“This facility is more than just a building; it symbolizes our commitment to improving the safety and security of our community. In addition to this impressive structure, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd constructed and furnished the gatehouse, which includes security, surveillance, and guard offices.”

“They also renovated and furnished the divisional hall, provided two Hilux vehicles for the division, installed concrete flooring in the compound, and set up a 30 kVA inverter and a 30 kVA Mikano generator.”

“Furthermore, we now have advanced cameras with modern monitoring systems, a fully equipped interrogation room compliant with the new Administration of Criminal Justice Act, and a tactical conference room within this beautiful facility.”

“The new Ugborikoko Police Station is outfitted with state-of-the-art resources aimed at enhancing our operational efficiency and empowering our officers. We are better equipped to serve the residents of Uvwie and surrounding areas.”

“This initiative reflects a significant investment in our police resources, and I am enthusiastic about the collaborative prospects it offers with our community. It stands for a renewed dedication to building trust and fostering relationships with the citizens we protect.”

“I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, for his continuous support and vision for an improved Police Force, as well as to my Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, for allowing me to serve in this capacity and for consistently encouraging me throughout every stage of this project.”

“My sincere gratitude goes to Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd for their generous contributions from the initiation to the completion of this project. To High Chief (Engr) Kestin Ebimorbowei Pondi, the Managing Director of TSSNL, you are a visionary leader who turns ideas into enduring realities.”

“I wholeheartedly appreciate the officers and personnel of this division for their support and the sacrifices they made to ensure the project’s success. Your dedication has significantly improved our capacity to serve effectively.”

“I am excited to announce the launch of the ‘Security Education Advocates Campaign,’ a transformative initiative developed by a dedicated team of Nigerians, including Amb. Pastor Edewor Egedegbe of the Value Rebirth and Empowerment Initiative (VREI) and Amb. (Dr.) Mrs. Onyi Ikemefuna of the Sharmar Educational Foundation.”

“This campaign aims to address the rising tide of crime in our society through education and awareness. The pilot phase, which launched on January 13, 2025, at Delta Career College in Effurun, has already made strides in reaching numerous public and private schools in Warri South, Okpe, and Uvwie local government areas of Delta State.”

“The primary objective of the Security Education Advocates Campaign is to educate and encourage young people to reject crime and avoid drug abuse. The endorsement of this initiative by the Nigerian Police Force is a crucial step towards reducing crime in our communities.”

“Moreover, the campaign is designed to be integrated into the Nigerian educational system, teaching children from an early age about the dangers of crime and the importance of speaking up when they observe wrongdoing.”

“We are bringing this initiative to the attention of the Federal Government of Nigeria, advocating for its adoption as a key strategy to combat criminality in our nation. With full implementation, this innovative approach could greatly improve safety and security nationwide.”

“In conclusion, I wish to thank my husband, ACP Kevin Zuokumor, PSC, for motivating me to reach my potential and for guiding the development of each component of this project to meet the highest police standards.”

“Let us remember that this station is not just a physical presence; it is a beacon of hope and safety for our community. May we all commit to upholding the values of integrity, professionalism, and service that define the Nigerian Police Force.”

“Thank you for your attention, and may God bless us all as we embark on this new chapter in the Ugborikoko Division,” she concluded.

Valentine Onojeghuo’s Claims on Abraka-Eku Road Are Fundamentally Misinformed, Misleading

Oplus_131072

By Sunday Apah

The Delta State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the recent statement made by the Publicity Secretary of the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Valentine Onojeghuo, on the Abraka-Eku road as fundamentally misinformed and misleading.

In a statement issued by the Publicity Secretary of the PDP in Delta State, Olorogun Sunday Apah stated that it was imperative to address the inaccuracies present in Onojeghuo’s claims concerning the Abraka-Eku road.

The statement read: “While Onojeghuo and his sponsors seek to cast blame on the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori-led administration for alleged corruption and infrastructural failures, their assertions betray a fundamental misunderstanding of how road projects are managed at both the state and federal levels.

“First and foremost, it is crucial to clarify the status of the Abraka-Eku road. Contrary to Mr. Onojeghuo’s claim that the road was awarded to Oruese International Nigeria Enterprise by the state government, the Abraka-Eku road is, in fact, a federal road that is currently under the purview of the Federal Government.

“Currently, contracts related to its maintenance or development fall strictly under federal jurisdiction. The Delta State Government has no authority to intervene in a road that is under federal contract.

“Accusing the state government of cronyism regarding a federally managed road not only demonstrates a lack of understanding of the regulatory framework governing such infrastructure projects but also reflects a troubling penchant for political grandstanding.

“Onojeghuo appears to conflate matters of state governance with those that are federal, thus misleading the public and creating unnecessary tension between the state government and its constituents.

“Moreover, it is worth noting that the Delta State Government has consistently demonstrated its willingness to step in and enhance infrastructure within its jurisdiction, particularly when it concerns federal roads.

“For instance, the government has approved the rehabilitation of the old Umutu-Abraka-Eku road, a move that highlights the administration’s commitment to improving transportation and connectivity for all Deltans.

“This initiative is not only a testament to the governor’s foresight but also underscores his dedication to serving the needs of the people of Delta State by addressing infrastructure gaps that are critical for trade and everyday commutes.

“In regard to the assertion that the governor engages in questionable contract practices driven by political loyalty, it is essential to emphasize the importance of due diligence and factual verification in public discourse.

“Onojeghuo’s attack hinges on allegations that appear to stem from political rivalry rather than a commitment to accountability. For a publicity secretary and his sponsors who claim to advocate for integrity and transparency, it is concerning to see them resort to unfounded accusations without substantiating evidence or thorough investigation.

“Onojeghuo and his sponsors’ call for an investigation into the state’s contract award processes is indicative of their ongoing pursuit of political leverage rather than a genuine desire to enact change.

“If Onojeghuo and his sponsors were truly committed to fostering accountability, they would engage in constructive dialogue with the state government to identify areas of concern and work collaboratively toward solutions.

“Instead, what we see is a pattern of obstruction and blame-shifting that serves no one, especially not the citizens of Delta State who rely on effective governance.

“We must also address the manner in which Mr. Onojeghuo characterizes the governor as someone who operates a ‘party loyalty reward system.’ Such language is not only inflammatory but also undermines the collaborative spirit necessary for effective governance.

“Leadership at any level should be about serving the public interest rather than advancing personal or party agendas. To suggest otherwise only sows division and discontent among the very people whose needs must be prioritized.

“To further illustrate the state government’s commitment to infrastructure improvement, consider the various other federal road projects that have seen enhancements through state intervention.

“This approach is part of a broader strategy to ensure that the road networks serving Delta State are safe, reliable, and conducive to economic activity.

“The political climate should not overshadow the importance of collective efforts to enhance infrastructure, which ultimately serves the state as a whole.

“Misinformation can serve as a powerful weapon in the arena of politics; hence, it is the responsibility of public officials like Mr. Onojeghuo to validate their claims before disseminating them to the press.

“The people of Delta State deserve leaders who prioritize truthfulness and engage in constructive dialogue rather than resorting to sensationalist narratives devoid of factual basis.

“It is only through collaboration and transparency that we can pave the way for growth and development that will benefit all citizens of Delta State.

“Governor Oborevwori and his administration remain committed to this endeavor and welcome constructive engagement from all political quarters as we work toward a brighter future for Delta State.”
