Delta North PDP Leaders Express Confidence in New Party National Chairman Tanimu’s Leadership

0

Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Delta North Senatorial District of Delta State have expressed confidence in the leadership of the newly elected national chairman of the party, Turaki Kabiru Tanimu (SAN), as well as members of the new National Executive Committee.

The leaders made this known at their first official leadership meeting held in Asaba, after the National Convention. They promised to work with him and other stakeholders to ensure the party regains its dominance in Nigerian politics.

In his welcome speech, Chief Onyia acknowledged Delta North’s long-standing role in national political participation.

He encouraged members to remain committed to party processes and criticised what he described as a pattern of elected officials moving away from the party after using its platform during campaigns.

He commended delegates who attended the recent national convention in Ibadan, saying that a formal letter acknowledging the new national leadership will soon be issued.

On the subject of the State Congress, Onyia said Delta State did not conduct its congress before the national convention to avoid internal disputes.

He noted that although some individuals had publicly tendered their resignations earlier in the year, the party had not received formal notifications.

He added that the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) is scheduled to meet on Tuesday to consider interim leadership arrangements for several states, including Delta, which is expected to operate under an interim structure for three months ahead of its congress.

He reiterated the existing party zoning structure in Delta State—Chairman to Delta South, Governor to Delta Central, and Secretary to Delta North—and clarified that the South–South national chairmanship slot remains zoned to Delta State for contestation at the Zonal Congress.

Onyia called for a strengthened party organisation at the ward and LGA levels and encouraged regular meetings, broader participation, and adherence to collective decisions.

He also voiced support for the interim leadership that will oversee the state until congresses are held.

Dr. Mrs. Uduehi, who spoke through Hon. Veronica Egbolen, conveyed appreciation to grassroots members and ward structures for maintaining party activities.

She also thanked party leaders and governors involved in organising the national convention in Ibadan and extended congratulations to Chairman Tanimu and the new NWC.

Also addressing the gathering, Chief Clement Ofuani commended the conveners and highlighted the importance of administrative order in political organisation.

He noted that the PDP remains one of the long-standing parties from the 1998 registration era, with a national presence.

Ofuani emphasised inclusiveness as a key principle and encouraged members to uphold transparent and participatory processes as the party transitions into its interim phase and prepares for future congresses.

The meeting concluded with a collective commitment to further strengthen party structures across Delta North, enhance mobilisation efforts, and support the party’s ongoing organisational activities at state and national levels.

Conveners of the meeting were Chief Ejiofor Onyia, a life member of the PDP Board of Trustees (BOT), and fellow life BOT member Dr. Esther Uduehi. Ten delegates from each Local Government Area (LGA) attended, providing district-wide representation.

Our Urgent Call For Transparency, Unity, A Free, Fair UPU Election

0

As the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) approaches its pivotal elections, we stand at a moment of profound significance in our shared journey. This election is not just another administrative procedure; it is a vital opportunity for us to reaffirm our collective integrity, unity, and unwavering dedication to advancing our community.

The UPU, as our foremost socio-cultural institution, carries the critical responsibility of conducting an election that reflects the values, discipline, and accountability that have forged our identity and made us proud.

In recent times, troubling concerns about potential irregularities and inaccuracies in the delegate list have surfaced. It is crucial that every stakeholder, aspirant, and member of the Urhobo Nation feels assured about the integrity of this process. We believe that clarity is essential and that transparency is not merely an expectation—it is our constitutional right.

*The UPU Constitution is clear on the matter:*

The categories of eligible voters must be explicitly defined, structured, and publicly shared before any election can occur. Anything less jeopardises our trust and invites scepticism regarding the electoral process.

*OUR ASSERTIVE DEMAND: FULL TRANSPARENCY IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE UPU CONSTITUTION*

We call upon the Electoral Committee to act decisively and immediately publish:

1. A thorough and verified list of accredited delegates, encompassing all categories as mandated by the UPU Constitution.

2. The total number of eligible voters under each category, ensuring that these numbers are definitive and certified, leaving no room for doubt or ambiguity.

At this critical juncture, it is vital for the electoral body’s credibility that it has a clear understanding of its voter register.

We acknowledge the categories for eligible voters as defined by our Constitution:

*ELIGIBLE VOTERS AS CONSTITUTIONALLY DEFINED*

Category A: 20 delegates per Kingdom
Category B: Members of the National Executive Council (NEC)
Category C:
– Council of Representatives: 4 delegates per active UPU branch
– UPU Women Wing Exco
– UPU Youth Wing Exco
Category D: All aspirants (automatic delegates eligible to vote for themselves only)

Despite these established categories, the actual numbers of kingdoms, branches, NEC members, council representatives, youth/women wing executives, and aspirants have not been explicitly published. This lack of transparency is not only concerning but also unacceptable, casting a shadow on the integrity of our electoral aspirations.

*OUR CALL FOR THE PUBLICATION OF QUALIFIED BRANCHES AND AFFILIATES*

We respectfully insist that the Electoral Committee publish the complete list of branches and affiliates authorised to vote on or before Tuesday 2nd December 2025, in strict compliance with the constitutional criteria for “active branches.” This should include:

– Branch name
– Status (active or inactive)
– Number of accredited delegates
– Evidence of compliance with constitutional requirements

This level of transparency is not only warranted but also a fundamental expectation from an institution of the UPU’s stature.

*ENSURING DIASPORA PARTICIPATION*

Countless individuals in the diaspora have:

– Secured international travel arrangements
– Adjusted their schedules
– Committed to participating actively in this election

We confidently seek confirmation regarding:

– Our registration status
– Our voting rights
– Our recognition as legitimate stakeholders under the constitution

Addressing these requests is essential for reinforcing our belief in the electoral process and restoring trust among all participants.

*A RESOUNDING MESSAGE TO THE ELECTORAL COMMITTEE*

We fully trust that the Electoral Committee comprises respected individuals dedicated to upholding the highest standards of integrity. However, integrity must be visibly demonstrated through transparency and accountability.

The publication of the delegate list is not merely a formality; it is a fundamental constitutional and ethical obligation that aligns with the principles we cherish deeply.

The future of our nation hinges on this election. Therefore, we anticipate it to be conducted:

– With complete transparency
– Free from secrecy
– Uncompromised by manipulation
– Unbiased toward any aspirant or faction

*A CALL FOR UNITY AND COMMITMENT TO OUR COMMUNITY*

Disenfranchising any members of the Urhobo community is an absolute non-negotiable. It endangers our collective aspirations and undermines the UPU’s core values.

Let us rise above division, honour the legacy of our ancestors, and pave a strong foundation for future generations.

*FINAL THOUGHTS*

We firmly believe that only through unwavering transparency, strict adherence to our constitution, and ethical conduct can we guarantee the integrity of this election.

Clarity and openness will not only restore the trust of the Urhobo Nation but also reinforce our position as a unified and respected voice for our people.

Let us champion transparency, embrace unity, and allow truth to guide our paths forward.

…70% Allocated to Capital Projects to Boost Infrastructure Development

By Sunday Apah

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Wednesday unveiled a ₦1.664 trillion budget proposal for the 2026 fiscal year to the Delta State House of Assembly. Demonstrating a strong focus on infrastructure and socio-economic progress, 70 percent of the budget has been dedicated to capital expenditures.

The budget presentation took place at the Assembly Complex in Asaba, in accordance with Section 121 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

Named the “Budget of Accelerating the MORE Agenda,” Governor Oborevwori emphasized that the budget was formulated amid a positive national economic outlook, with Nigeria’s GDP forecasted to grow by 3.9% in 2026.

He highlighted key drivers such as increased oil revenues, steady fiscal and monetary policies, tax reforms, and intensified federal efforts to address insecurity, all of which have renewed confidence in economic growth and improved living standards.

The governor stated that the 2026 budget aims to foster inclusive and sustainable growth, enhance human capital development, fast-track infrastructure projects, strengthen social cohesion, reduce debt levels, and improve resource management efficiency.

Of the total budget, ₦499 billion (30%) is earmarked for recurrent expenditures, while ₦1.165 trillion (70%) will fund capital projects—marking a 70% increase compared to the 2025 allocation.

On expected revenues, Oborevwori expressed optimism that federal allocations will significantly improve following the removal of the fuel subsidy. Statutory allocation, including mineral derivation, is projected at ₦720 billion, making up 43.28% of total revenue and reflecting a 23.75% rise from the previous year.

He also reported that enhancements in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) collection are anticipated to bring in ₦250 billion in 2026, an 86.5% increase over 2025, driven by professionalized processes and a wider tax base.

The governor added that VAT remittances are expected to contribute ₦120 billion, benefiting from improved national VAT administration. Capital receipts have been intentionally reduced to ₦25 billion to support a no-borrowing policy, while ₦489 billion is forecasted from savings and oil revenue recoveries, illustrating the administration’s commitment to fiscal discipline and prudence.

Personnel expenses are estimated at ₦185 billion, overhead costs at ₦204 billion, and ₦110 billion allocated to social contributions, benefits, and grants, all of which reflect inflationary adjustments and dedication to employee welfare.

Oborevwori identified key focus areas for 2026 funding, allocating ₦450 billion to the Works Ministries to expedite the construction of urban highways, rural and riverine roads statewide.

Education will receive ₦105.086 billion to improve access to quality learning, while ₦50.067 billion is earmarked for healthcare infrastructure upgrades across primary health centers, general hospitals, and tertiary health facilities.

The Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency is set to receive ₦20 billion, reaffirming the governor’s commitment to tackling flooding and expanding urban infrastructure in Asaba. A similar allocation has been made to the Warri, Uvwie, and Environs Development Agency, where extensive road and flyover projects continue to transform the oil city.

In the agriculture, energy, and social protection sectors, the budget dedicates ₦10 billion to food security and agro-investment initiatives; ₦16 billion to bolster electricity supply via a new multi-grid system; and ₦20 billion to enhance social intervention programs aimed at poverty reduction.

Additionally, ₦100 billion has been reserved for direct support to all 25 local government areas, averaging ₦4 billion per council.

Regarding security, the governor reiterated his administration’s intention to deploy modern technology, including drones and advanced surveillance tools, along with providing ongoing logistical and financial support to security agencies.

As the immediate past Speaker of the House, Oborevwori commended the Assembly’s collaboration and urged legislators to expedite the review and passage of the budget to maintain the state’s developmental momentum. He reaffirmed the government’s vision of building “a prosperous, secure, and stronger Delta where no one is left behind.”

In his welcome address, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, described the budget presentation as a crucial reaffirmation of the government’s commitment to its citizens.

He praised the governor’s leadership and highlighted key accomplishments under the MORE Agenda, such as major flyovers, expanded road networks, upgraded healthcare facilities, strengthened education systems, and empowerment programs.

Guwor also lauded the governor for approving the Consolidated Legislative Salary Structure (CONLESS) and initiating construction of permanent offices for the Assembly Service Commission.

He assured that the Assembly would conduct a prompt and thorough review of the appropriation bill, emphasizing their dedication to people-focused governance, transparency, and fair development.

The Majority Leader, Hon. Emeke Nwaobi, moved to adopt the governor’s budget presentation, a motion seconded by Hon. Marilyn Okowa-Daramola, Chairperson of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriations.

The appropriation bill has now been formally submitted for legislative consideration.

His Royal Majesty, Dr. Matthew Ediri Egbi, Owahwa II, Okobaro of Ughievwen Kingdom, has called on the Federal Government to reassess and reinforce Nigeria’s security systems in order to combat the increasing wave of insecurity prevalent across the nation.

The monarch made this appeal during a ceremony held at his palace in Otu-Ughievwen, Ughelli South Local Government Area, where he bestowed chieftaincy titles on three distinguished sons and a daughter of the kingdom.

At the event, Owahwa II conferred the title of Arhiator of Ughievwen Kingdom on Ogbere Ameke Okpeko, the title of Esiemonoja of Ughievwen Kingdom on his wife, and the title of Uqwankah of Ughievwen Kingdom on Chief Ejiro Hope Ayomide.

The Okobaro expressed serious concern about the surge in kidnappings, killings, and various acts of banditry across the country, highlighting these as major obstacles to national growth and development.

He urged the Federal Government and security agencies to thoroughly investigate the underlying causes of these violent incidents and to equip security personnel adequately to effectively curb the escalating insecurity.

Also, the monarch encouraged residents of Ughievwen Kingdom to stay alert and promptly report any suspicious activities to the relevant security authorities.

Navy’s Role in Protecting Nigeria’s Maritime Resources Commendable, Says Oborevwori

By Sunday Apah

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has lauded the Nigerian Navy for its essential role in securing the country’s maritime territories and safeguarding critical oil and gas infrastructure.

He described the naval force as vital to ensuring national stability and fostering economic development.

The Governor made these remarks on Monday in Asaba during a courtesy visit from the 23rd Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, who was on an operational tour of naval commands across Delta State.

Welcoming Vice Admiral Abbas and his team at the Government House, Governor Oborevwori emphasized that the visit reflected the Navy’s dedication to enhancing security in the Niger Delta region, especially within Delta State, which stands as one of Nigeria’s leading oil-producing areas.

“I warmly welcome you and your delegation to Government House, Asaba. Your presence here demonstrates genuine commitment and care for our state.

“Delta is not only a top oil-producing state but also a significant contributor to the nation’s economy.

“The Nigerian Navy has played a pivotal role in maintaining maritime security and protecting our national interests,” the Governor remarked.

He also commended the Navy’s efforts in counter-piracy, peacekeeping, and its role in bolstering internal security within the state.

Governor Oborevwori further acknowledged the dedication of naval officers operating in Delta State and praised their effective collaboration with other security agencies, which he credited for maintaining peace throughout the region.

“I prioritize security highly in Delta State. Cooperation among all security agencies has enabled us to enjoy peace, which is fundamental for progress.

“Without peace, development stalls. Major contractors like Julius Berger and CCECC would find it difficult to operate without the peaceful environment we currently have,” he stated.

The Governor highlighted that this security stability has enabled his administration to pursue large-scale infrastructure projects, including key flyovers and highways such as the Ughelli-Asaba expressway, one of the longest routes in the South-South zone.

He pledged the state government’s ongoing support to strengthen protection around oil facilities and coastal communities.

“Our oil resources remain safe due to the strong collaboration among security agencies. Any disturbance in Delta would be felt nationwide. We are steadfast in safeguarding our home front, and we appreciate your dedication,” Oborevwori added.

Vice Admiral Abbas, who took office on October 30, explained that his visit aimed to evaluate the readiness of naval units under his command, identify existing challenges, and improve strategies for protecting vital oil and gas assets.

He noted that he was well acquainted with the Delta area from previous service with the Central Naval Command.

“The purpose of this visit is to stay updated on developments within our formations. Delta State houses many of the nation’s critical oil and gas infrastructures, making their protection a top priority. I am here to assess what is going well, what requires improvement, and the challenges we face,” Abbas stated.

The Naval Chief thanked Governor Oborevwori for the support extended to the Navy and other security agencies, noting that heightened stability on the state’s waterways had positively impacted oil production.

“I observed new developments at the base that were not present when I previously served here. I appreciate your support and look forward to continued collaboration to ensure smooth naval operations,” he added.

The meeting concluded with both leaders affirming their commitment to deepen cooperation toward safeguarding Delta State, the broader Niger Delta region, and Nigeria’s national economic interests.

They assured the USPC leadership of their unwavering support, vowing to work tirelessly for a total victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in the upcoming elections.

UPU 2025: When Character Speaks, Propaganda Dies…. Chief Ohwofa Leads.

0

By Fegor Ogene JP.

Chief Simeon Akpovwoghokohwo Ohwofa stands today as one of the quiet giants of the Urhobo Nation, a man whose depth of character, disciplined mind, strategic insight, moral clarity, and strong financial capacity have earned him the admiration of many across Urhoboland and beyond.

As the 2025 UPU General Executive Election approaches, the Urhobo Nation once again finds itself at a critical point where unity, leadership vision, and collective responsibility will determine our direction for years to come.

In this decisive moment, it becomes necessary to examine carefully the kind of leadership that can restore dignity, confidence, and cohesion to the Urhobo people.

It is within this context that the personality, legacy, and character of Chief Simeon Akpovwoghokohwo Ohwofa stand out as a compelling choice for those seeking a stronger and more stable UPU.

Chief Ohwofa’s journey reflects the kind of experience that shapes great leadership. Armed with a B.Sc. in Agricultural Biochemistry & Nutrition from the University of Ibadan and an MBA from the University of Benin, he built an intellectual foundation grounded in discipline and excellence. His early professional career at Roche Nigeria Limited (Vitamin Division) one of the world’s leading global health corporations prepared him with global administrative standards. Rising to the position of Departmental Head before retiring honorably in 1995, he demonstrated competence, reliability, and a capacity for leadership under pressure.

His entrepreneurial contributions through Nutrivitas Limited and O.M. Simons Nigeria Limited further strengthened his reputation as a builder of systems, opportunities, and human capacity.

He proved through action that true leadership is measured by the value one adds to society and the doors one opens for others to succeed.

Beyond his professional excellence, Chief Ohwofa has demonstrated unwavering devotion to the preservation of Urhobo cultural identity.

As Coordinator of the Urhobo Historical Society (UHS), he has remained committed to safeguarding the intellectual and historical inheritance of the Urhobo people. His tenure as President of the Urhobo Social Club, Lagos, showcased his ability to bring together Urhobo professionals and elites under the shared banner of unity, mutual support, and community advancement.

His leadership is therefore not theoretical; it is grounded in decades of visible work that has strengthened the social, cultural, and intellectual fabric of Urhoboland.

Despite this rich legacy of service, recent days have witnessed an unfortunate rise in propaganda, driven by those who fear the renewed hope that Chief Ohwofa represents.

A small group of detractors, threatened by the momentum of his consultations and the overwhelming support he continues to receive, has descended into malicious blackmail, spreading unfounded allegations that his aspiration to serve as President General of the UPU is sponsored by “Ijaw interests.”

Such claims are not only baseless; they are irresponsible, divisive, and represent a deliberate attempt to sow confusion among the Urhobo people.

They insult our collective intelligence and undermine the quest for leadership built on competence, humility, and service.

It must be stated objectively and intellectually that Chief Simeon Akpovwoghokohwo Ohwofa is a made man by the grace of God, a man whose well-documented achievements, education, business accomplishments, community leadership, and decades of financial independence clearly show he is someone who cannot be bankrolled, manipulated, or remotely controlled by any external interest. His life story is a testament to personal strength, economic stability, and a deep sense of self-worth.

No one “makes” a man who has already made himself through decades of hard work, global corporate experience, private enterprise, and distinguished community service. To suggest otherwise is not just misleading, it is intellectually dishonest.

These falsehoods being circulated are simply the desperate tools of those who benefit from confusion and wish to frustrate the aspiration of the majority for a more organized, credible, and forward-thinking UPU. Urhobos at home and in the diaspora must reject these attempts at misinformation and remain focused on the larger goal: the restoration of dignity, unity, and strong leadership within our foremost sociocultural institution.

The Simeon Ohwofa Team, composed of respected men and women committed to Urhobo progress, represents a clear break from the politics of division and mediocrity.

Their mission is grounded in truth, competence, and a genuine desire to reposition the Urhobo Nation for greater relevance.

Those who propagate lies must consider the long-term consequences of their actions.

History is never kind to those who sabotage their own people for short-term gains.

There is still space for reflection, for repentance, and for a return to dignity, because falsehood ultimately consumes those who live by it.

As the Urhobo Nation stands at the crossroads, the responsibility falls on every son and daughter of Urhobo to choose wisely, guided not by fear or propaganda, but by truth, competence, and a commitment to a greater future.

Chief Simeon Akpovwoghokohwo Ohwofa embodies the qualities that the Urhobo Nation urgently needs at this moment: clarity of purpose, strength of character, cultural consciousness, administrative excellence, economic independence, and an unshakeable dedication to the progress of his people. Supporting him is not merely supporting a candidate; it is supporting a vision for a united, respected, and forward-moving Urhobo Nation.

In this election, the choice before us is not just political it is historical. And it is a choice that will shape the dignity, unity, and long-term trajectory of the Urhobo Nation for years to come.

In a statement issued by Delta State Police Public Relations Officer SP Bright Edafe on Friday, 21 November 2025, he stated that the suspects were arrested based on credible intelligence on 19 November 2025, when operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) at about 2030 hours stormed a criminal hideout on the outskirts of Panama Layout, Ughelli, identified as the base of a violent syndicate responsible for multiple heinous crimes in Ughelli North LGA.

He disclosed the names of the suspects as Peter Ejenekevwe (m), 31, alias Calamity (gang leader); Clever David (m), 35; Chukwuemeka Gospel Onuchukwu (m), 29; and Onome Collins (m), 32.

“They also confessed to robbing a POS operator and her husband the same day, inflicting injuries and raping the victim’s 18-year-old sister-in-law.

“Preliminary investigation led the operatives to further advance into the bush, where the following items were recovered: two locally made long guns, twenty-three live cartridges, three locally made short guns, and two Lexus 350 Jeep keys, which led to the recovery of the victim’s vehicle (Reg. No. KUJ 788 DR).

“While withdrawing from the bush, the operatives were ambushed by suspected gang members but repelled the attack with superior firepower.

“During the exchange, the four suspects were struck by bullets fired by the fleeing hoodlums and were confirmed dead at General Hospital, Ughelli. Unfortunately, a police officer got injured in the encounter and is receiving treatment.

“Meanwhile, the corpses of the suspects have been deposited in the morgue, and the investigation is still ongoing”, it added.

Also, on 18th November 2025, at about 1600hrs, the DPO Agbarho Division received a report that at about 0300hrs the same day, five armed men forcefully broke into a residence in Uvwiama New Layout, Agbarho Community, while the occupant was asleep.

“Two of the suspects allegedly entered the bedroom, while three others stood guard outside.

“The armed suspects reportedly fired shots through the window after sighting the occupant holding a machete in self-defence.

“A 43-inch Hisense television and other electronics were damaged during the attack.
Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Agbarho Division, CSP Pius Eredei, immediately deployed operatives and coordinated a rapid response, working in synergy with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN).

“Through sustained search efforts within the area, the team succeeded in arresting Victor Peculiar ‘m’, aged 19, identified as a key suspect in the attack, and a locally fabricated double-barrelled short gun was also recovered during follow-up investigation.

“The suspect is in custody and has made useful statements. Preliminary investigation is ongoing”, it added.
