Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Wednesday, officially launched an impressive array of modern medical equipment valued at several billion naira, aimed at enhancing healthcare services throughout the state.

The newly acquired state-of-the-art equipment includes eight hemodialysis machines, 25 user-friendly 4D ultrasound scanners, and two robust CT scan machines from Germany.

These advanced tools have been allocated among the three senatorial districts, greatly improving the diagnostic and treatment capabilities of government-run healthcare facilities.

During the inauguration ceremony at the Central Hospital in Warri, Governor Oborevwori emphasized that the procurement of these medical resources is designed to elevate healthcare delivery standards in the state.

He invited the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, to assist in unveiling the medical equipment, stating, “We have eight dialysis machines, with three designated for Central Hospital Warri, two for Delta State University Teaching Hospital in Oghara, and the remaining three for Asaba Specialist Hospital in Asaba.”

The Governor added, “Today is a pivotal moment as we distribute 25 ultrasound machines, ensuring that each local government area in our state receives one. While the gesture may seem modest, its impact will profoundly benefit our communities.”

He further noted that the state government, through the Ministry of Health, will initiate extensive training for healthcare workers at primary health centers on the effective utilization of these machines.

“This initiative aims to significantly enhance the quality of healthcare services, particularly in addressing maternal and infant mortality and morbidity rates.”

In addition, he announced that orthopedic and surgical equipment has been acquired for the central hospital, along with two new CT scan machines—one of which has already been installed, while the second awaits installation. These investments demonstrate the administration’s unwavering dedication to improving healthcare infrastructure and outcomes.

“As the saying goes, ‘health is wealth,’ and this government is committed to ensuring that both our hospitals and primary health centers are sufficiently equipped to provide quality, accessible, and effective healthcare to all residents of Delta.”

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, commended Governor Oborevwori for his forward-thinking leadership, describing the delivery of the new equipment as a major advancement in Delta’s healthcare development.

“This includes the eight hemodialysis machines distributed across the three state districts, along with 25 4D ultrasound scanners and a CT scan machine. Following consultations with key health institutions, it was found that the Asaba Specialist Hospital and the Mother and Child Hospital in Warri already have operational CT scanners.”

“In his wisdom, the Governor approved the acquisition of two new rugged German CT scanners to meet the needs of the other districts.”

The Commissioner also recognized the Governor’s prompt disbursement of the Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF) to all resident doctors in the state, an initiative recently commended by the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) during their latest General Meeting.

“Delta is now one of only three Nigerian states to fully implement the MRTF policy.”

In their communiqué, NARD acknowledged Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as one of the only three governors in Nigeria to approve the MRTF.

“We also extend our gratitude to His Excellency for his steadfast support and commitment to reforming the nursing profession, making it clear that admissions into nursing schools should be based solely on merit, free from external pressures.”

“I urge our leaders to follow this exemplary standard if we are to genuinely develop a robust and effective healthcare system.”

The event also highlighted Governor Oborevwori’s ongoing support for medical professionals.

Accompanied by State Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme, Speaker of the State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, and senior government officials, the Governor officially inaugurated the equipment to widespread applause, heralding a healthier future for Delta State.

Delta State’s Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, revealed on Sunday that he left his stable and lucrative job in the oil and gas sector to pursue a career in public service with the aim of uplifting his community.

While addressing attendees in his hometown of Oginibo during a ceremony to award bursaries to 301 students from Ughelli South attending various higher education institutions, Izeze shared his motivation for departing from ExxonMobil to serve the public.

At the event, Izeze also donated two motorcycles and a generator valued at millions of naira to three additional beneficiaries, stating, “If it were solely my decision, I would have preferred that all 301 recipients remain on their campuses and receive their bursary notifications there. However, our committee decided to invite only those whose institutions are situated within Delta State and close to Ughelli South.”

Reflecting on his experience in the Delta State House of Assembly, Izeze noted, “During my eight years in the legislature, I discovered that assisting people discreetly often led to misunderstandings. There’s a prevalent belief that anyone in public office is solely interested in financial gain, leading to a perception that support provided is an entitlement rather than a privilege. Consequently, assistance is seldom appreciated unless made public.”

He announced that each student would receive N30,000 through this bursary program, done in collaboration with FOOSTODEY, a group of his friends and former colleagues.

“I have been fortunate to have wonderful friends throughout my political journey, many of whom are childhood acquaintances and former coworkers. They have actively supported any cause I have championed, even if they cannot be present due to personal commitments. I sincerely thank them and pray for their continued blessings.”

Izeze expressed gratitude to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former state governors for the opportunities afforded to him in his various roles.

“By the grace of God—Jehovah, Allah SWT, and the kindness of a genuinely good-hearted individual, I have had the privilege of serving the community. But let me emphasize: if something does not serve the public good, I want no part in it. The income and allowances we receive in office are a result of someone’s generosity in appointing us; we cannot rely solely on the governor to handle everything, as he is already overwhelmed. Instead of fantasizing about vacations in places like Los Angeles, we must remember the students needing our support.”

Izeze condemned the mindset of those who view public service as merely a means to escape poverty.

“Some individuals pursue public office primarily focused on their personal gain. When their expectations aren’t fulfilled, they complain. However, when I left ExxonMobil nearly 20 years ago, my sole intention was to make a positive impact on my community. Remaining in ExxonMobil until retirement wouldn’t have allowed me to assist my people—this is why I chose to leave the oil and gas industry for public service.”

Professor Godwin Darah, the event’s chairman, applauded the bursary initiative and commended Izeze’s strong commitment to education.

“We gather here in Oginibo, a hub of modern knowledge, to recognize a commendable effort to assist local students. We convened last year, and I hope we will do so again next year. I encourage other well-intentioned Urhobos and Deltans to follow this exemplary action.”

HRM Matthew Ediri Egbi, Owahwa II, the Okobaro of Ughievwen Kingdom, remarked that the initiative exemplifies righteous leadership.

“This reflects the biblical principle that when just leaders are in power, the people rejoice. To the students, take your studies seriously—education is not a scam. Strive to maintain or improve your CGPA and make us proud. Let us continue praying for Comrade Izeze and expressing our gratitude for this support.”

The monarch further called for the establishment of a tertiary institution in Ughelli South, urging the Commissioner for Higher Education to present the proposal to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

Earlier, Dr. Peter Omoko, Chair of the Bursary Committee, noted that last year, the program supported 200 students from the Ughievwen Kingdom, and he praised Izeze for increasing the number of beneficiaries to 301 to encompass the entire Ughelli South region.

Prominent attendees, including Hon. Festus Utuama (Member representing Ughelli South in the State House of Assembly), Professor Nyerowho Tonukari (Commissioner for Higher Education), Chief Fred Majemite, Chief Emuobo Gbagi, and Dr. Ezekiel Okoh (Executive Assistant to the Governor on Student Affairs), commended Izeze for this impactful initiative.

Hon. Francis Waive (Member representing Ughelli North, Ughelli South, and Udu Federal Constituency) and Dr. Lucky Avweromre (Chairman of Ughelli South Local Government Council), also represented at the ceremony, encouraged students to remain focused and inspired by the bursary awards.

Also, Chief Fred Majemite contributed N300,000 to support the beneficiaries receiving motorcycles and a generator, while Hon. Festus Utuama donated N500,000 for FOOSTODEY, which was promptly distributed to students present at the event.

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has delivered a stern message to the State Executive Council, asserting that their job security hinges on their performance rather than gossip.

During the inauguration of eight newly constructed duplexes at the Commissioners’ Quarters in Asaba on Monday, Governor Oborevwori commended his commissioners for their dedication and loyalty but emphasized that lackluster performance will not be accepted.

“I’d like to commend our commissioners for their loyalty, dedication, and hard work. However, I want to address the widespread rumors about the potential dissolution of the Executive Council. These speculations are unfounded and merely reflect people’s tendency to engage in talk,” he stated.

The governor clarified that while a full-scale dissolution is not in the works, commissioners who fail to perform adequately will be removed from their positions.

“If you are not delivering results, we will have to let you go, but that decision will not impact others positively contributing,” he remarked. “Currently, there are a few individuals not meeting expectations. Just today, I told one of them in the chapel that their performance was lacking,” he added.

He stressed the importance of taking initiative and being visible in their roles.

“As a commissioner, if we don’t see your presence, it means you need to take charge. You should be proactive in seeking the Governor rather than waiting for me to come to you. Many others are actively looking to engage with me; it’s crucial that you bring energy and initiative to your ministry,” Governor Oborevwori asserted.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to accountability, holding each commissioner responsible for the success of their respective departments.

“If there are issues in any ministry, the commissioner must be held accountable. A well-functioning ministry is a reflection of a capable commissioner,” he noted.

“We have several projects lined up for commissioning. Although we may not complete them all by the end of this year, we will strive to make significant progress. We aim to replicate what Mr. President accomplished during last Saturday’s commissioning by formally presenting multiple projects simultaneously in one location.”

“That is our plan for Warri on Wednesday. We will organize and present multiple projects in a unified ceremony,” he added.

“Today, we are here to inaugurate eight four-bedroom duplexes, each equipped with two staff quarters. This initiative arose because, upon taking office, we discovered only 22 available residences at the Commissioners’ Quarters, while the number of commissioners exceeded that amount. This led to our decision, reflecting our commitment to ensuring adequate accommodations for senior government officials.”

Chief Fidelis Tilije, Dean of Commissioners and Commissioner for Finance, expressed gratitude to Governor Oborevwori for supporting the construction of the new residences and requested renovations for the existing older quarters.

Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Godknows Angele, provided details about the project, noting it consists of eight duplexes with staff quarters and lounges, and praised Governor Oborevwori for his support in completing these structures.

The Special Adviser to the Governor of Delta State on Government Affairs, High Chief Jite Brown, recently celebrated the remarkable milestone of 31 years since he was honored with the prestigious title of Aberen of Udu Kingdom.

The celebration took place at his residence in Aladja and drew a notable gathering of distinguished guests and members of the kingdom .

Among those in attendance were Chief Andrew Orugbo, Chairman of the Governing Council at Delta State Polytechnic, Oghara; Chief Matthew Uparan, former Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State; Chief Wilson Ejeben, Isio of Udu Kingdom; Chief Udumarho Segba, former Senior Special Assistant to the Governor; Chief Otto Ogbiruveta, another former Senior Special Assistant; and Chief Agberia Oghoifo, former Supervisor for Finance at the Udu Local Government Council, among others.

In his speech during the ceremony, Hon. Chief Jite Brown expressed his heartfelt gratitude and pride, stating, “It is a privilege to have been honored with the Aberen title by the late Ovie of Udu Kingdom, HRM Emmanuel Bethel Otete Delekpe Esq., 31 years ago.” He emphasized the significance of this title in not only his life but also in the cultural fabric of the Udu Kingdom.

According to him, “I am very happy to have served as the Aberen of Udu Kingdom for the past thirty-one years. The Aberen title is more than just a recognition; it symbolizes our unity, heritage, and the enduring authority of our traditional institution. I remain committed to upholding the values and traditions of our great kingdom.”

Chief Brown further elaborated, stating that the event was organized to showcase the respect and admiration that the Aberen title commands, particularly as it relates to Udu Kingdom’s rich heritage and strength. “So this event is put together to highlight the importance of the Aberen title and its integral role in our cultural identity,” he remarked.

He also explained that the Aberen carries a traditional sword-shaped symbol of authority, which is carried by designated palace attendants whenever the King is seated during special ceremonies.

“In line with this important symbol, I have served the late monarch with unwavering loyalty, courage, and deep respect for the customs and traditions of our land,” he added, reinforcing his dedication to the responsibilities that come with such a revered title.

Former Oghwuvwie General of Aladja Community, Chief Photo Ogbe, stated that the celebration not only commemorated Chief Brown’s long-standing service but also served as a reminder of the vital role that traditional titles play in fostering unity and preserving the cultural heritage of the Udu Kingdom.

APC Udu Ward 9 Holds Familiarisation Meeting, Passes Vote of Confidence in Tinubu, Oborevwori

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ward 9 (Orhuwhorun), Udu Local Government Area of Delta State has convened a familiarisation meeting to unite old and new party members and also passed a vote of confidence on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

The event, which highlighted a renewed spirit within the party, took place on Sunday and provided a platform for members to establish connections and consolidate their political strategies.

In his opening speech, Chairman of the APC Udu LGA Ward 9, Mr. Owhode Tokpaberire, expressed his delight at the turnout and the unity demonstrated among party members.

He noted that since the mass defection of former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC, there had been a stark absence of opportunities for existing and new members to engage in person.

Tokpaberire emphasized the importance of the meeting as a means for members to familiarize themselves with one another, fostering camaraderie and unity.

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has commended the Rector of Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara, Prof. Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri, for his exceptional contributions to both infrastructural and academic growth.

The commendation came during the institution’s second combined convocation ceremony on Saturday, May 31, 2025, which also included the unveiling of several significant projects.

Speaking on behalf of the governor, Honourable Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari, acknowledged the Rector’s wise management of internally generated revenue (IGR) in funding major projects. He remarked that Prof. Ufuophu-Biri’s administration has made a noticeable difference, especially in enhancing the welfare of students, staff, and the wider community in Oghara.

Governor Oborevwori underscored the Polytechnic’s effective fundraising and expenditure practices, noting that the institution’s achievements are in line with his administration’s commitment to advancing education through the MORE Agenda.

He reaffirmed the state government’s ongoing support to maintain the progress made.

A key highlight of the ceremony was the commissioning of several landmark projects, including a modern central administrative block named the “Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori White House,” an advanced auditorium, and a pure water production facility, all funded through IGR.

Furthermore, the governor laid the cornerstone for the upcoming School of Applied Sciences complex and inaugurated a fuel-less generator developed by the Polytechnic’s engineering department.

He described the generator as a significant technological advancement and a promising development for Nigeria’s technology sector.

In his address, a visibly delighted Prof. Ufuophu-Biri expressed heartfelt gratitude to Governor Oborevwori for allowing the institution the autonomy to plan and implement its projects.

He also acknowledged the leadership and support of Chief Andrew Orugbo, Chairman of the Governing Council, throughout this endeavor.

The Rector congratulated the graduating students, calling the convocation a momentous occasion that signifies their entry into the professional world. He encouraged them to embody the institution’s values and serve as exemplary ambassadors for both the Polytechnic and Delta State.

… Commends Head of Service for Her Integrity

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, assured civil servants that his administration will soon make appointments for Permanent Secretaries.

This assurance was given during a thanksgiving service in honour of the Head of Service, Dr. (Mrs.) Mininim Oseji, at the Church of God Mission, Asaba Bishopric Headquarters, on Sunday.

Governor Oborevwori emphasized that the selection of Permanent Secretaries will be conducted thoroughly, adhering to established procedures and guided by divine insight.

Recognizing the role of divine intervention in Dr. Oseji’s appointment, he praised her civil service career, noting that her success reflects God’s grace rather than mere human achievement.

The Governor commended Dr. Oseji for entering her position with integrity and expressed hope that she would leave in the same manner.

Urging her to uphold the integrity that has characterized her career, Governor Oborevwori highlighted the significance of gratitude, quoting Psalm 100:4, which encourages entering “His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise.”

 

He condemned the practice of age misrepresentation by some civil servants who seek to prolong their service, stating that such actions hinder the recruitment of younger, more dynamic individuals.

The Governor expressed his satisfaction with the ongoing age verification and screening process by the civil service commission and pledged his full support for the initiative.

In her earlier remarks, Dr. (Mrs.) Mininim Oseji expressed deep gratitude to God for the honor she received, noting that she never imagined she would attain “this pinnacle” when she began her career as a young medical officer years ago.

She congratulated Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on his second anniversary in office and thanked all attendees of the thanksgiving service.

Dr. Oseji also praised the Governor and his cabinet for beginning each day with prayer at the Government House Chapel, believing that this practice has contributed significantly to the state’s success.

Bishop Nathaniel Mordi, Bishop Emeritus of the Church of God Mission, delivered a sermon titled “Focusing on Christ for His Immeasurable and Infinite Love,” stressing the necessity of making Christ the central figure in one’s life through conscious effort, discipline, prayer, and adherence to God’s word.

The Bishop congratulated Dr. (Mrs.) Mininim Oseji on her appointment as Head of Service and acknowledged her steadfast commitment to her work and exemplary Christian values.

In a show of support, prayers were offered for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, seeking divine guidance and blessings as he leads the state.

Accompanying the Governor were his wife, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme and his wife, Ezinne Catherine Onyeme, along with other senior government officials.

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has announced the upcoming inauguration of 42 road projects as part of the celebrations marking two years of his administration.

In his Address at the Delta State House of Assembly in Asaba on Wednesday, Governor Oborevwori detailed several key projects, including the dualization of the Ughelli–Asaba Road (Sectors C1 and C2) and the Isheagu/Ewulu Road, along with a significant bridge initiative.

Additional projects highlighted include the rehabilitation and asphalt resurfacing of Mariere Street in Boji-Boji Agbor, along with the construction of the Kwale–Beneku bridge and associated approach roads. The governor also listed the reconstruction of Orhorhor, Chechester, and Benjamin Oseregbaje roads in Sapele.

Further improvements are planned for the Otovwodo junction area in Ughelli, as well as maintenance and enhancement works on various roads in Effurun and Ekpan.

Other significant projects include the overhaul of failed sections of Central Hospital Road, the rehabilitation of the link road connecting the hospital to the Police Command Roads in Warri, and the refurbishment of General Hospital Road with a branch to Police Command Road, extending to Ajamimogha/Mabiaku Link Road.

The governor continued to outline additional projects that will also be inaugurated, including the rehabilitation of Esisi Road from Warri/Sapele Road to the Estate Roundabout, and the reconstruction of both Upper and Lower Erejuwa Roads in Warri.

New internal roads are planned for construction in Kokori, Mudi Beach Street in Abraka, and the Uruagbesa Oria–Abraka Road, among others. Roads in Umeghe, Oghara, and several neighborhoods in Akumazi and surrounding areas are also set for various upgrades.

Governor Oborevwori further emphasized key flagship initiatives of his administration, which include three flyovers and three slipways in the twin towns of Warri and Effurun. He noted that these projects are at different stages of completion, with expectations for commissioning during the first quarter of 2026.

Describing his address as a historic first for Delta State, the governor stated that the mid-term report exemplifies the principles of the MORE agenda, guided by values of servant leadership, transparency, accountability, innovation, and excellence.

Reflecting on his inauguration on May 29, 2023, Oborevwori shared his vision for economic growth, fiscal responsibility, a more focused civil service, investment promotion, and social support systems for the vulnerable members of the community.

The Governor’s purpose in addressing the assembly was to outline the progress achieved thus far and to preview what residents can expect in the remaining two years of his term.

Following the speech, the Delta State House of Assembly expressed its confidence in the governor’s prudent management of state resources through a formal resolution, initiated by Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo and supported by Hon. Edafe Emakpor.

The Assembly also commended Governor Oborevwori for what they termed visionary leadership and his commitment to human capital development throughout the state.

This commendation followed a motion put forward by Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, who lauded the governor’s accomplishments across key sectors including education, healthcare, infrastructure, and youth empowerment. Hon. Ferguson Onwo seconded the motion, which was universally adopted through a voice vote overseen by Speaker Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor.

In his closing remarks, Speaker Guwor acknowledged Governor Oborevwori’s exemplary performance in transformational leadership and effective financial management, expressing gratitude for the governor’s dedication to the state’s development.

The Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Chief Solomon Arenyeka, the former State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in celebration of his 68th birthday.

In a statement released in Asaba by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori commended Arenyeka for his steadfast dedication and commitment to fostering unity and advancing the PDP during his time as chairman.

He praised the Itsekiri-born political leader for his strategic vision, emphasizing the significant impact his brief leadership made on the party’s framework and achievements in the state prior to the rise of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Governor also recognized Arenyeka’s extensive contributions to the development of Delta State, highlighting his service in various roles that have propelled the state’s advancement.

“On behalf of my family, the government, and the citizens of Delta, I offer my warmest congratulations to Chief Solomon Arenyeka on his 68th birthday,” stated Governor Oborevwori.

He characterized Arenyeka as an elder statesman whose life exemplifies patriotism, selflessness, and a profound commitment to the progress of the APC and Nigeria at large.

Concluding his remarks, the Governor prayed for Chief Arenyeka’s continued good health and longevity, expressing his hope that he will remain a vital force within the APC, both in the state and across the nation.
