Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has congratulated former Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, as he marks his 62nd birthday.
In a warm message issued on Sunday in Asaba by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori lauded Senator Omo-Agege as a remarkable son of Delta and an astute leader dedicated to public service.
The governor remarked, “On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I celebrate my brother and distinguished former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, on his 62nd birthday.
“Senator Omo-Agege has shown unwavering commitment to the development of our nation through his legislative work and advocacy. As a lawyer, lawmaker, and politician, he has consistently demonstrated resilience, courage, and dedication in fulfilling his duties.”
He also prayed for divine guidance, good health, and continued blessings for the seasoned lawmaker in the years ahead.
“As you embrace this new chapter of life, my prayer is that God grants you greater wisdom, strength, and grace to keep contributing meaningfully to the progress and unity of our beloved state and country,” he added.
In a bid to enhance sports infrastructure and foster athletic development in Delta State, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori visited the Warri Township Stadium on Saturday to assess ongoing reconstruction efforts.
During his inspection, Governor Oborevwori spoke with journalists, expressing his satisfaction with the progress made and reaffirming his dedication to delivering the project on time and with high quality.
He expressed confidence in the contractors’ ability to create a world-class facility that will cater to the people of Warri and the surrounding areas, highlighting that the project has already generated local economic activity, with over 176 youths employed on-site.
“We are optimistic that the contractor will meet the deadline. The construction of a new indoor sports hall is underway, and the community is already reaping the benefits of the renovations. Once finished, the people of Warri will take great pride in their modern facility, which will also attract visitors,” he stated.
Governor Oborevwori emphasized that the completed stadium would serve not only as a center for sports and entertainment but also as a testament to Warri’s growing reputation in the sports arena, especially as Warri Wolves Football Club is set to compete in the Premier League.
The governor revealed that although the initial plan included constructing a brand-new stadium, the government decided on a comprehensive renovation of the existing facility due to land constraints in the area. He noted that plans for a hospitality suite are also being considered as part of the modernization efforts.
The ongoing reconstruction includes significant upgrades such as steelwork in the main bowl, a FIFA-standard football pitch, underground drainage systems, and an Olympic-sized swimming pool, among other facilities.
Governor Oborevwori remarked that his visit is a crucial step in ensuring that contractors are held accountable for delivering quality work within the established timeline.
Engineer Olaruwaju Adeleke from Peculiar Concern Limited, the project contractor, assured the governor and attendees that the stadium would be finished on schedule.
“We are now three months into the project and have successfully completed 100% of the steel fabrication and erection, aside from a few open areas. Work is progressing on the pitch as well,” Engineer Adeleke reported.
He indicated that the running track and pitch grassing would be completed by December. However, he clarified that while the stadium might not be ready for the current Premier League season, it is expected to be fully operational by the following season.
“The Premier League season is approaching, so we may not be able to utilize the stadium for this year. Nevertheless, we are hopeful that Warri Wolves will return to their home ground next season,” he concluded.
Two well-known detainees of Okuama in the Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, Professor Arthur Ekpekpo and Hon. Belvis Adogbo, have tragically lost their children, Lauretta Ekpekpo and Oghenevwegba Belvis Adogbo, under painful circumstances.
Both children passed away while their fathers have been held in military detention in Port Harcourt for nearly a year without trial, following the events surrounding a military incident in Okuama.

While the specific cause of her passing is still unknown, many speculate that it may be linked to the emotional strain resulting from her father’s prolonged and controversial imprisonment.

In another heart-wrenching incident, two-year-old Oghenevwegba Belvis Adogbo, the son of Hon. Belvis Adogbo, also passed away from an unknown illness in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The young boy’s death is believed to have been exacerbated by the absence of his father, who would have provided the necessary care and support.
At just one year and five months old, Oghenevwegba was left without his father after Adogbo was arrested in August 2024.
He was detained alongside Professor Ekpekpo and several others in connection with the deaths of 17 military officers near Okuama.
A family member noted, “Master Vwegba became ill and, unfortunately, did not survive long enough to receive medical attention. The burden this has placed on our family is immense.”
They further expressed, “Vwegba might have had a fighting chance if Chief Belvis Adogbo, the family’s primary provider, had been there to seek proper medical care.”
The ongoing detention of Chief Adogbo and other community leaders has severe repercussions for families and the Okuama community as a whole.
A family spokesperson has called on UPU, Urhobos in authority, to intervene and persuade the Nigerian Army to release the detained fathers and mothers, emphasizing the urgent need for justice and compassion in this trying time.
The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) has officially ended its nationwide warning strike.
Chidi Aligwe, the Assistant Secretary-General of NANNM, shared this update with our correspondent on Saturday.
The strike began on Wednesday, with nurses and midwives across Nigeria engaging in a seven-day warning protest to highlight various long-standing issues, such as the need for an increase in shift allowance, adjustments to uniform allowance, a distinct salary structure for nurses, an increase in core duty allowance, recruitment of more nursing personnel, and the creation of a dedicated nursing department within the Federal Ministry of Health.
The decision to suspend the strike was made on Saturday after a virtual meeting of NANNM’s National Executive Council (NEC).
On Friday, representatives from the association held discussions with officials from the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the Office of the Head of Service, the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the Office of the Accountant General, the National Salaries and Wages Commission, and other key stakeholders to further address their concerns.
Aligwe stated, “The strike has been officially lifted. Nurses and midwives should return to work immediately.”
A circular titled “Suspension of the Ongoing Nationwide Nurses’ Strike,” which was signed by NANNM’s National President, Haruna Mamman, and General Secretary, T.A. Shettima, confirmed this decision.
The circular noted that the NEC concluded the suspension of the strike after a thorough assessment of the Memorandum of Understanding and the agreed timeframes for implementation.
The document included the statement, “NEC recognizes the positive actions taken by the Federal Government in addressing the nine key demands of NANNM, especially regarding the establishment of clear timelines for execution.
“In light of the formal agreement achieved, and adhering to the principles of dialogue and good faith, NEC hereby suspends the ongoing nationwide strike action effective immediately.
“NEC has instructed the national leadership to continue overseeing the implementation of the signed MoU and to monitor the government’s adherence to the agreed deadlines.
“State councils are to mobilize their members for an immediate return to duty. The NEC has resolved that no NANNM member, including interns and locum nurses, shall face retaliation for participating in the nationwide strike.
“NEC appreciates the dedication and support of all members throughout this period and reaffirms that NANNM is committed to safeguarding the welfare, dignity, and professional rights of all nurses and midwives in Nigeria.”
High Chief James Endurance Onwordi Ibori Ubulu, the Onishe of Ubulu-Uku, has issued a strong response to remarks made by Chief Emma Ejiofor, a prominent figure in the Delta North APC, concerning Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the political landscape of Delta North.
The Onishe criticized Ejiofor, labeling him a political novice who lacks significance in the state’s political space.
He further asserted that Ejiofor does not possess the ability or political acumen necessary to run for even a councillorship position, much less offer substantial commentary on Delta North politics.
Describing Ejiofor as a mere loudspeaker of irrelevant opinions, the Onishe emphasized that his political journey has been similarly inconsequential.
He cast doubt on Ejiofor’s connections to the Anioma polity, claiming that he is not recognized in his own village and can influence fewer than ten votes.
The Onishe alleged that Ejiofor has been rejected by his own community and has not returned to his village for an extended period.
In contrast, the Onishe commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his achievements, asserting that they surpass the accomplishments of four other governors from the South-South region.
He urged the Governor to disregard Ejiofor’s remarks, labeling him a bothersome individual whose opinions should not be taken seriously.

The police in Delta State have arrested a 29-year-old woman who faked her kidnapping, along with two male accomplices in Asaba, the state capital.
In a statement by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, it was reported that on July 21, 2025, at about 20:30 hours, the Delta State Police Command received a report of a kidnapping incident involving a female victim allegedly abducted by unknown armed men in the Bonsaac area of Asaba.
According to the statement, “Acting promptly on the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, directed the Commander of the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Squad, CSP Godwin Osadolor, to ensure that the victim is rescued unharmed.”
“Acting on this directive, the command led operatives to launch a coordinated intelligence-driven operation.”
“Through diligent investigative efforts and strategic deployment, the operatives apprehended one Alfred Elisha (male) at Koka Roundabout, Asaba, and another suspect, Ugochukwu Adim (male), off DLA Road, Asaba, on July 22, 2025, at about 09:00 hours.”
“Upon the arrest of the suspects, it was revealed that this was not a case of actual kidnapping, but rather a plot between the victim and himself. His revelation led to the arrest of the other suspect, Merit Eleh, aged 29.”
“She confessed that the money loaned to her by her brother—approximately three million six hundred thousand naira (₦3,600,000)—was used to fund her bridal shower and hotel expenses during her wedding, which took place in March 2025.”
“She further stated that she faked her kidnapping and received a ransom of three million naira (₦3,000,000), from which she gave her accomplices five hundred thousand naira (₦500,000) and kept two million five hundred thousand naira (₦2,500,000) for herself.”
“All suspects involved have been arrested, and the investigation is ongoing.”
Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State have unanimously declared that President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori are the only candidates for the party in the upcoming presidential and gubernatorial elections slated for 2027.
During a recent meeting, these leaders affirmed Chief Bernard Edewor, a prominent politician and business magnate, as the recognized leader of the APC in Ethiope East. This announcement drew widespread support from all attending leaders and stakeholders.

The Executive Chairman of Ughelli South Local Government Council, Rt. Hon. Dr. Lucky Iroroefe Avweromre, provided financial assistance to seven families who were critically affected by the Okuama crisis, while also outlining his achievements from his first year in office.
Avweromre made this known during a press briefing at the Council Secretariat on Friday, July 25, 2025, in Otu-Jeremi. He highlighted over thirty impactful projects and programs executed since he assumed office on July 15, 2024.
The beneficiaries included Late Pa James Ogboroko who died in detention, Prof. Arthur Ekpekpoo, Hon. Chief Belvis Adogbo, Engr. Dennis Okugbaye, Me. David Akata, Mr. Dennis Malaka, and Mrs. Mabel Owhemu.
He stated that the financial support was intended to assist the seven families affected by the Okuama crisis, in alignment with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s drive to resettle the displaced Okuama people as soon as possible.
He explained that, in line with the resettlement plans, the council embarked on the construction of a resettlement center and the provision of critical amenities for the Okuama community, aimed at supporting the recovery and rebuilding of the area following the tragic incident.
According to him, within the year under review, construction of the Council’s Administrative Building and the Old Secretariat (Staff Building) is ongoing.
He noted, “We have upgraded the Okwagbe Health Centre with solar power to ensure a 24-hour electricity supply, and we have completed the Okpe-Olomu Health Centre, which had been abandoned for over 15 years.”
“We introduced various staff welfare packages to boost productivity and ensure a motivated workforce. Twenty-one students from the Delta State Maritime Polytechnic, Burutu (Gbaregolor Campus), are currently benefiting from scholarships,” he added.
He clarified that the wooden bridge constructed at Omosuomo was a temporary intervention, urgently requested by the community to resolve pressing accessibility issues.
Avweromre noted that constructing a standard concrete bridge is beyond the financial capacity of the council, but assured that discussions are ongoing with federal and state government intervention agencies for a permanent solution.
He also listed various other projects, stating that his administration has made remarkable strides in infrastructure projects aimed at meeting the needs of the Ughelli South LGA residents.
He revealed that his administration plans to partner with companies and organizations to implement various youth and women empowerment programs, all aimed at boosting the socio-economic well-being of Ughelli South residents.
The Ughelli South LGA council chairman commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the ongoing construction of a healthcare center, a primary school, and a secondary school in Okuama, as well as other projects in the local government area, describing these efforts as a testament to the Governor’s commitment to grassroots development.
