…Announces 42 Road Projects for Launch

…Receives Vote of Confidence, Praise from Delta Assembly

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has announced the upcoming inauguration of 42 road projects as part of the celebrations marking two years of his administration.

In his Address at the Delta State House of Assembly in Asaba on Wednesday, Governor Oborevwori detailed several key projects, including the dualization of the Ughelli–Asaba Road (Sectors C1 and C2) and the Isheagu/Ewulu Road, along with a significant bridge initiative.

Additional projects highlighted include the rehabilitation and asphalt resurfacing of Mariere Street in Boji-Boji Agbor, along with the construction of the Kwale–Beneku bridge and associated approach roads. The governor also listed the reconstruction of Orhorhor, Chechester, and Benjamin Oseregbaje roads in Sapele.

Further improvements are planned for the Otovwodo junction area in Ughelli, as well as maintenance and enhancement works on various roads in Effurun and Ekpan.

Other significant projects include the overhaul of failed sections of Central Hospital Road, the rehabilitation of the link road connecting the hospital to the Police Command Roads in Warri, and the refurbishment of General Hospital Road with a branch to Police Command Road, extending to Ajamimogha/Mabiaku Link Road.

The governor continued to outline additional projects that will also be inaugurated, including the rehabilitation of Esisi Road from Warri/Sapele Road to the Estate Roundabout, and the reconstruction of both Upper and Lower Erejuwa Roads in Warri.

New internal roads are planned for construction in Kokori, Mudi Beach Street in Abraka, and the Uruagbesa Oria–Abraka Road, among others. Roads in Umeghe, Oghara, and several neighborhoods in Akumazi and surrounding areas are also set for various upgrades.

Governor Oborevwori further emphasized key flagship initiatives of his administration, which include three flyovers and three slipways in the twin towns of Warri and Effurun. He noted that these projects are at different stages of completion, with expectations for commissioning during the first quarter of 2026.

Describing his address as a historic first for Delta State, the governor stated that the mid-term report exemplifies the principles of the MORE agenda, guided by values of servant leadership, transparency, accountability, innovation, and excellence.

Reflecting on his inauguration on May 29, 2023, Oborevwori shared his vision for economic growth, fiscal responsibility, a more focused civil service, investment promotion, and social support systems for the vulnerable members of the community.

The Governor’s purpose in addressing the assembly was to outline the progress achieved thus far and to preview what residents can expect in the remaining two years of his term.

Following the speech, the Delta State House of Assembly expressed its confidence in the governor’s prudent management of state resources through a formal resolution, initiated by Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo and supported by Hon. Edafe Emakpor.

The Assembly also commended Governor Oborevwori for what they termed visionary leadership and his commitment to human capital development throughout the state.

This commendation followed a motion put forward by Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, who lauded the governor’s accomplishments across key sectors including education, healthcare, infrastructure, and youth empowerment. Hon. Ferguson Onwo seconded the motion, which was universally adopted through a voice vote overseen by Speaker Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor.

In his closing remarks, Speaker Guwor acknowledged Governor Oborevwori’s exemplary performance in transformational leadership and effective financial management, expressing gratitude for the governor’s dedication to the state’s development.

The Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Chief Solomon Arenyeka, the former State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in celebration of his 68th birthday.

In a statement released in Asaba by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori commended Arenyeka for his steadfast dedication and commitment to fostering unity and advancing the PDP during his time as chairman.

He praised the Itsekiri-born political leader for his strategic vision, emphasizing the significant impact his brief leadership made on the party’s framework and achievements in the state prior to the rise of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Governor also recognized Arenyeka’s extensive contributions to the development of Delta State, highlighting his service in various roles that have propelled the state’s advancement.

“On behalf of my family, the government, and the citizens of Delta, I offer my warmest congratulations to Chief Solomon Arenyeka on his 68th birthday,” stated Governor Oborevwori.

He characterized Arenyeka as an elder statesman whose life exemplifies patriotism, selflessness, and a profound commitment to the progress of the APC and Nigeria at large.

Concluding his remarks, the Governor prayed for Chief Arenyeka’s continued good health and longevity, expressing his hope that he will remain a vital force within the APC, both in the state and across the nation.

The Ughelli North, Ughelli South, Udu Federal Constituency (U3) Forum, a political advocacy group within the All Progressives Congress (APC), has reaffirmed its steadfast support for the re-elections of President Bola Tinubu, Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Senator Ede Dafinone, Rt. Hon. Francis Waive, and all APC candidates in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

This was made known during a gathering where the Forum welcomed Senator Ede Dafinone, representing the Delta Central Senatorial District, along with Hon. Francis Waive, who serves the Ughelli North, Ughelli South, and Udu Federal Constituency.

The meeting took place over the weekend at the residence of Chief John Oguma, the Forum’s Chairman, in Ovwor-Olomu, Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state.

During the meeting, the Forum passed a unanimous vote of confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Senator Ede Dafinone, and Hon. Francis Waive.

The motion was introduced by Barr. Jaro Egbo, Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area, and was seconded by Chief Adelabu Bojor, former APC Delta Central Senatorial Chairman.

Chief John Oguma, the Forum’s Chairman, emphasized the need to support Tinubu’s return to leadership, stating, “We must ensure that Tinubu is back in the Villa. This decision is firm.

“The same applies to our governor—he is performing exceptionally. He is the only leader in our history to receive a chieftaincy title from all 24 Urhobo kings, which highlights unity and respect.”

Oguma also paid tribute to Senator Dafinone, recalling their political collaboration with the Senator’s father in the National Party of Nigeria (NPN).

He remarked, “I served as a youth leader when his father was a Senator. Now, his son is continuing that legacy. His father completed two terms, and it’s expected that he will as well.”

He further acknowledged Hon. Waive’s contributions, stating, “For many years, we sent representatives to the National Assembly without seeing significant impact.

“Today, we have a representative who has successfully established a Federal Medical Centre in Udu, facilitated a Federal School of Nursing, and set up a world-class Computer School. This is the kind of politics I believe in—prioritizing human capital development.”

Oguma highlighted the collective decision of the Forum: “When I made this proclamation, no one disputed it. The support was immense. Our political approach is about ‘we’ not ‘I.’”

He urged mutual respect among members, saying, “If it’s not your turn now, it might be yours in the future. We have one governor and one president. It’s crucial that we remain loyal and support their leadership. Opposing them is effectively opposing the will of God, who placed them in power.”

Senator Ede Dafinone, speaking at the event, acknowledged the newfound unity in Delta politics. “There is no longer an opposition in Delta. We are united under one party with one goal. There are no winners or losers here; we are all victorious,” he asserted.

He praised Governor Oborevwori’s efforts to bridge party divides, stating, “Integrating the PDP bloc into the APC was a visionary and unifying move. Federal appointments are now channeled through the governor’s office, promoting restored discipline and structure.”

Regarding the national economy, Dafinone remarked, “The last two years have been challenging, but under President Tinubu’s leadership, signs of economic recovery are emerging. The difficult decisions made are beginning to pay off.”

Hon. Francis Waive expressed gratitude for the Forum’s support, stating, “When your community endorses you and expresses confidence in your candidacy, it’s truly humbling.”

He highlighted the creation of the Federal Medical Centre in Oleri, established through a law signed by President Tinubu, as a significant legislative achievement. “We are witnessing unparalleled unity. Governor Oborevwori has successfully united political factions, which epitomizes effective leadership.”

Delta State’s Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, has emphasized that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration is defined by its empathetic and people-focused governance style, aimed at benefiting the community.

Izeze made these remarks while inspecting the ongoing construction of internal roads and drainage systems at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp in Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area, on Tuesday.

The Commissioner expressed the Governor’s deep concern regarding the poor condition of the internal roads at the camp and acknowledged the impact this might have on Corps members’ perceptions of the state.

“Up until now, the internal roads within the NYSC Orientation Camp were nearly non-existent,” he noted. “With the arrival of the rainy season, the situation has only worsened, leaving the camp area muddy and challenging to navigate.”

He continued, “For many Corps members, their time at the NYSC camp represents their only experience with Delta State. Some may come, seek redeployment, and leave, but their impression will be shaped solely by their time at the Issele-Uku camp.”

“Governor Oborevwori recognizes this reality,” Izeze commented. “He believes that the three weeks Corps members spend at the orientation camp should be memorable and welcoming. Such understanding only comes from a leader who values human-centric governance.”

The Commissioner highlighted that the Governor’s empathy stems from personal experience, noting that his own children have served in the NYSC. “This helps him appreciate the importance of comfort and conducive living conditions for the Corps members at the camp,” he said.

As a result, the Governor has approved the construction of internal roads within the camp, especially in areas where Corps members stay, hold parades, and participate in recreational activities. The plan includes building 1.2 kilometers of roads accompanied by 2.4 kilometers of covered drainage.

Upon project completion, Izeze anticipates that many will refer to the Governor as “the Governor Quality” due to the high standards and thoughtful aesthetics of the finished work.

The contractor, Mr. Rony Karam, reported that the project is on track to be completed within two months, with much of the drainage work already finished. “As you can see, the drainage is nearly complete. Soon, we will begin the earthworks, laying the stone base, and finally, the asphalt. We expect to finish within two months,” he stated.

In a related update, Commissioner Izeze expressed disappointment regarding the stalled Nnemiyi erosion control project, which was designed to connect to the storm drainage system of the Okpanam–Ibusa Bypass Road.

“This is a project we inherited from the previous administration and has been left unattended for over two years. Clearly, it has faced significant delays,” he said. “I plan to report this situation to the Governor.”

He added, “From my assessment, the project’s stagnation appears to stem from the contractor’s inability to fulfill the terms of their agreement for reasons unknown. Consequently, I will recommend to His Excellency that this project be terminated due to its evident delays and failures.”
