Dignitaries including President Bola Tinubu, former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife Dame Patience, Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio, Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and his wife Tobore gathered on Tuesday to pay their respects to the late elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark.

The funeral service took place at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Kiagbodo, in the Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.

Other notable attendees included Governors Douye Diri (Bayelsa), Umo Eno (Akwa Ibom), and Bala Mohammed (Bauchi State).

Also present were Delta State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme and his wife Ezinne Catherine; former Governors Ifeanyi Okowa and Chief Rufus Ada George; Senators Joel-Onowhakpo Thomas, Ede Dafinone, and Henry Seriake Dickson; as well as the Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, among others.

President Tinubu, represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, expressed his sorrow at the passing of Chief E. K. Clark, a respected leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF).

“Pa Clark was an ardent advocate for resource control, economic equity, and social justice. He served as a beacon of courage for both the Niger Delta and the entire country,” said Tinubu.

“His perspectives on national issues were both distinct and patriotic, and he believed in a unified Nigeria. Even his adversaries acknowledged his integrity as a distinguished politician.”

Former President Goodluck Jonathan remembered Pa Clark as a dedicated nationalist who championed human dignity.

“He was a passionate advocate for freedom and national pride. Pa Clark was not only a father and leader but an ambassador and a fearless voice for the marginalized, as well as a steadfast advocate for justice and minority rights,” he stated.

“Whether as a federal commissioner or in his later role as an elder statesman, he remained a courageous proponent of equity, justice, and inclusivity.”

Senate President Godswill Akpabio acknowledged, “Pa Clark was both a pan-Nigerian and a pan-African who fought for all, including the underrepresented.

“He has left a legacy and a call to duty for those who follow. He made significant contributions to Nigeria and the Niger Delta, and his memory will forever be part of our national history.

“He stood firm when many chose convenience. He represented a generation committed to the enduring quest for freedom, embodying conviction and principles.”

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori described Pa Clark as a bold and relentless advocate who never hesitated to confront power abuses, corruption, or injustice.

“Pa Clark led a fulfilling life and will be remembered for his enduring legacy and contributions to nation-building,” he noted.

“He was not only a teacher and politician but also a devoted public servant, exemplifying a life dedicated to service.

“He was the voice of the oppressed in Nigeria’s political landscape. We have lost a powerful advocate for the Niger Delta, who fought tirelessly for better living conditions, food security, quality education, public safety, and accessible healthcare.

“We must come together, especially in the Niger Delta, to carry on his legacy. I am heartened that our leader, former President Goodluck Jonathan, is present. We must unite around him to achieve more progress for our people.

“When we allow divisions born from personal grievances, we impede our progress.

“Our Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, is one of us, and we will continue to support you, for our success as a nation relies on unity.

“May Nigeria be blessed with more leaders like Chief Edwin Clark, and may his soul find eternal peace.”

Earlier, the Most Rev’d Cyril Odutemu, Archbishop of Bendel Province of the Anglican Communion, delivered an emotive homily emphasizing Proverbs 22:1: “A good name is better than riches.”

He commended Pa Clark’s qualities, referring to him as a champion of integrity and a man of high moral values.

The Archbishop remarked on Clark’s selfless service, noting his pro bono legal advocacy for the underprivileged. “His commitment to justice and integrity established him as a true voice for the Niger Delta,” he said.

He stressed the idea that “a good name is more valuable than material wealth,” reminding attendees that “we bring nothing into this world and will take nothing with us when we depart.”

He raised concerns about the harmful influence of false prophecies in Nigeria, calling for repentance and a return to the integrity and righteousness valued by the nation’s founders.

Citing Matthew 6:33, the cleric urged Nigerians to prioritize their relationship with God, seek His kingdom above all else, and strive to live lives that please Him. He encouraged both the church and the nation to pursue righteousness and integrity.

By Sunday Apah

The Josephine and Matthew Kwode Foundation, a non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting health in Africa, recently provided free medical care to hundreds of residents at Ekete Market in Udu Local Government Area, Delta State.

This initiative is part of the foundation’s ongoing commitment to improving community health and well-being.

The event drew notable figures, including Olorogun Henry Sakpra, Chairman of the Board of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency; Rt. Hon. Karo Goru, Commissioner Representing Ughelli South, Udu, Uvwie, and Urhobos in Warri in the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC); Olorogun Charles Kwode, Executive Assistant to the Governor on Transport, Pastor Samuel Onakpa and Pastor Daniel Onosanimoni, among others.

During the program, Deacon Matthew Kwode, Director of the foundation, emphasized the organization’s divine mandate to promote good health as instructed by God.

He quoted Jeremiah 33:6-9, stating, “Behold, I bring health and cure, and I will cure them and reveal to them the abundance of peace and truth.” This scripture reinforces the foundation’s belief that everyone is intended to live a sickness-free life and underscores their mission of combining spiritual healing with medical care.

Kwode explained that the foundation’s medical outreach initiative aims to enhance community wellness through a holistic approach.

This involves improving the physical environment, promoting general hygiene, providing high-quality healthcare services, and delivering educational support. “By prioritizing hospitality, we aim to create a welcoming atmosphere that fosters trust between health providers and residents,” he said.

He stated further that the foundation focuses on health literacy by implementing preventive programs that discourage unhealthy habits, thereby raising awareness about health risks.

“Our goal is to empower individuals with the knowledge needed to make informed decisions about their health and well-being,” Kwode added.

The mission of the Josephine and Matthew Kwode Foundation extends beyond just immediate medical care. Its objectives include raising awareness of God’s health agenda, increasing life expectancy in Africa, supporting families with out-of-school children, and facilitating access to healthcare institutions worldwide.

In line with their strategy, the foundation aims to strengthen health promotion through coordinated community actions. They plan to engage in workplace wellness programs that integrate exercise, nutrition, and stress management, recognizing that a healthy workforce is essential for broader societal health improvements.

He reiterated, “the Josephine and Matthew Kwode Foundation remains committed to building healthier communities across Africa by combining faith and medical practice to foster well-being and longevity.

“The recent medical outreach serves as a testament to their vision of achieving health for all and supporting resilient communities where every individual has the opportunity to thrive”.

Pastor Kolawole Oniwinde, Resident Pastor of Living Faith Church, Udu, in his brief sermon, thanked God for the lives of Matthew and Josephine Kwode, describing the program as worthwhile and praying for God’s rewards for them.

He noted that while man gives care, God cures. “You don’t need to be a millionaire before you can care—it’s only a person with a good heart that cares.

“The foundation of care is compassion, so what Josephine and Matthew Kwode are doing is akin to that of the Good Samaritan in the Bible.”

One of the medical experts from the Josephine and Matthew Kwode Foundation, Mr. Peter Agbaragu, delivered a health talk on malaria and outlined the importance of avoiding mosquito bites.

He noted that the female mosquito known as *Anopheles gambiae* is the main carrier of the malaria disease.

He advised the beneficiaries of the program and invited guests to take preventive measures against malaria, such as using insecticide-treated mosquito nets while sleeping, wearing long sleeves and pants during the evening, and ensuring their surroundings are clean and free of stagnant water where mosquitoes breed.

...Pledges Support for Tinubu, Oborevwori, the APC

By Sunday Apah

As the 2027 general elections draw nearer, Delta State Commissioner for Works, Comrade Reuben Izeze, has officially dispelled the increasing pressure for him to enter the electoral race for any political position.

In a statement released on Monday, Izeze, a former member of the Delta State House of Assembly, reiterated his steadfast support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, and all candidates that will represent the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“I will not be running for any elections in 2027,” Izeze firmly stated.

“My primary focus is on rallying support and securing votes for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and all candidates of our party, the APC.”

He expressed gratitude for the encouragement from his supporters, acknowledging their calls for him to seek office. However, he emphasized that his current objective is to bolster the party’s prospects in the upcoming elections.

“I am thankful for the trust and confidence expressed by my supporters in urging me to run, but now is not the appropriate time. My priorities lie in strengthening the party and ensuring victories for our candidates throughout the election,” he added.

Izeze highlighted the critical need for unity within the APC, recognizing that Nigeria is at a pivotal moment in its democratic development.

He appealed to party members and stakeholders to unite and collaborate in advancing the developmental agenda of the current administration at both the state and national levels.

“As a party, we need to remain focused and cohesive. Our mission is to build on the successes of our leaders and provide greater benefits of democracy to the people. This is where my energy and dedication will be directed,” he stated.

The former lawmaker, whose bursary initiative has now entered its second year with over 500 beneficiaries, continues to be a key source of academic support and financial assistance for students from Ughievwen and Ughelli South pursuing excellence in higher education.

Izeze’s choice to step away from the 2027 election race is viewed by political analysts as a strategy that could enhance internal solidarity within the APC in Delta State, where efforts are being made to strengthen grassroots mobilization ahead of the elections.

... Inaugurates Premium Trust Bank Branch in Effurun

By Sunday Apah

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, declared on Monday that the state is secure and attractive for investment, commending Premium Trust Bank for establishing a robust foundation within just three years.

He attributed the interest of various corporate entities, including Premium Trust Bank, to the state’s relatively safe environment for life and property.

Governor Oborevwori made these remarks during the opening ceremony of a new Premium Trust Bank branch in Effurun, marking the bank’s 21st location and its second in the Effurun area.

Emphasizing the state’s vast investment opportunities, he noted that Delta State possesses a wealth of quality manpower, essential for meeting the demands of various industries and commercial endeavors.

He praised the bank’s significant progress in three years, which has been marked by innovation, superior banking services, and exceptional customer relations.

The Governor lauded the Managing Director, Pastor Emmanuel Emefienem, for his vision and commitment to serving the community and God.

“Mr. Emefienem exemplifies the tenacity and passion for excellence. He embodies the spirit of Warri—full of energy, ideas, and confidence,” the Governor remarked.

He highlighted that the new branch not only enriches the retail banking sector but also enhances the local economy of Effurun and Warri, key commercial centers in Delta State.

“This initiative is a sound investment as the area is ripe with business prospects. Local retailers, market vendors, business owners, and employees will now enjoy improved access to quality banking services in a friendly and secure setting,” he stated.

The Governor expressed his belief that the bank will contribute to job creation in the state.

“I am optimistic about the employment opportunities this bank can generate. Many of our qualified youths are now poised to secure jobs, whether as professionals or in various positions. Also, contractors and suppliers will also gain from the bank’s presence,” he added.

He urged the bank to focus on hiring local youths, emphasizing that Delta State is rich in talent and potential among its younger population.

“By engaging in both corporate and social responsibility, the bank can nurture strong ties with the community and earn their trust,” he stressed.

Governor Oborevwori also pointed out that the launch of the new branch reflects increasing investor confidence in Delta State, which he affirmed is a safe and favorable business environment.

“While there are still some security challenges, no society achieves 100% security. However, we are actively working to tackle these issues.

Numerous arrests have been made regarding crimes like kidnapping and robbery, although the police refrain from announcing every case to protect ongoing investigations,” he explained.

Mr. Emmanuel Emefienem, Managing Director of Premium Trust Bank, characterized the launch of the new branch as not just a growth initiative but a testament to the bank’s dedication to trust-building, community empowerment, and prosperity.

“Since our founding on April 19, 2022, we have relentlessly pursued our vision to become the most trusted and impactful bank in Nigeria, earning commendation for our resilience, innovation, and excellence,” he said.

“In just three years, Premium Trust Bank has accomplished outstanding milestones, achieving a balance sheet size of one trillion naira by the end of 2024, and currently ranking among Nigeria’s top 12 most profitable banks.

“We have received distinguished awards, including the Fastest Growing Bank in Africa (2024) and Nigeria’s Fastest Growing Bank for 2022 and 2023, along with recognition as the Most Innovative Bank and Best Workplace for Women in Nigeria.”

Mr. Emefienem acknowledged the alignment of the bank’s values—excellence, innovation, and community empowerment—with the Delta State Government’s development goals, which aim to foster economic growth and improve quality of life.

He also proudly shared the bank’s role as a lead sponsor and official banker for the 2025 National Sports Festival, scheduled for this month in Abeokuta, reaffirming its commitment to youth and sports initiatives.

As Premium Trust Bank expands its footprint in Delta State with this fourth branch and a fifth on the way, Mr. Emefienem reiterated the bank’s ongoing support for the state’s Medium-Term Development Plan (2024–2027).

He promised continued collaboration with the government to foster a conducive business environment, support SMEs, enhance financial inclusion, and provide sustainable value.

“To the residents of Effurun, Warri, and neighboring areas, we dedicate this new branch as a center for opportunity and prosperity, reinforcing our commitment to collaborative progress,” he concluded.

...First Lady Kicks Off Vaccine Awareness Campaign

By Sunday Apah

The Delta State Government is taking proactive measures to safeguard its youth, specifically those aged nine months to 15 years, from severe illnesses like measles and rubella.

In collaboration with the ‘You Matter Charity Foundation’, the Nigeria Governors’ Spouses Forum, the World Health Organisation (WHO), and various donor organizations, the state has initiated the Measles-Rubella Vaccine (MRV) Advocacy Rollout.

The campaign was inaugurated by Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, the wife of the State Governor, during an event held yesterday at Unity Hall in the Government House, Asaba.

During the launch of the MRV advocacy in Asaba, Deaconess Oborevwori emphasized the campaign’s goal to enhance access to vaccinations and boost community acceptance, particularly in regions with low immunization rates.

She stressed the importance of minimizing the incidence of measles, rubella, and their associated health complications in children.

“The MORE Agenda, under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s leadership, prioritizes the health of all residents, aiming to significantly reduce childhood diseases and mortality rates through effective vaccination,” she stated.

She urged all parents and caregivers to utilize the vaccination services offered, noting that every child has the right to receive vaccinations to prevent diseases. “The vaccines are safe, effective, save lives, and are provided at no cost,” she added.

Deaconess Oborevwori also called upon local stakeholders to support the immunization initiative in their communities, ensuring they provide necessary logistics and assistance.

She encouraged traditional leaders, religious figures, and other influential persons to play active roles in promoting the campaign’s success.

Earlier, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, the Commissioner for Health, highlighted the high transmissibility of measles and rubella through respiratory droplets, warning of serious complications like pneumonia and potential fatalities associated with measles.

The Health Commissioner expressed gratitude to both state and federal governments for their commitment to the health security of Delta residents, noting that immunization efforts would be conducted across all 441 health centers in the state. He also reassured the public by debunking myths surrounding vaccine safety.

The event featured supportive messages from representatives of the World Health Organisation (WHO), United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), Catholic Relief Services (CRS), among other partners.

Notable attendees included the wife of the Deputy Governor, Ezinne Catherine Onyeme; members of the State House of Assembly; State Executive Council members; and various leadership figures from local governments and religious organizations.

Second Year Anniversary: Why You Should Support Oborevwori Again in 2027

By Malcolm Onajite Tagbarha

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s journey has been anything but easy. He faced numerous challenges, including being underrated, denigrated, maligned, and vilified. Yet, he triumphed over 38 court cases to emerge as the undisputed Executive Governor of Delta State.

Today, Oborevwori stands out not only for his resilience but also for his undeniable street credibility. He serves as a beacon of competence, excellence, prudence, and unwavering commitment to the growth and development of Delta State through his innovative MORE Agenda.

His relentless drive for efficiency and flawless execution has endearingly connected him with Deltans across all ethnic, religious, and political affiliations.

His actions speak volumes; guided by a clear vision and excellent results, every decision he makes reflects a profound understanding of the state’s challenges and a steadfast dedication to its people.

Over the past two years, Governor Oborevwori’s performance has been remarkable and unprecedented. He has practically transformed Delta State into a hub of infrastructural development, complemented by robust social welfare programs. The state government has rolled out numerous initiatives under the MORE Agenda that have significantly benefited Deltans:

– The D-CARES Programme has supported over 250,000 beneficiaries from micro, small, and medium enterprises.
– The MORE-Grant Programme has empowered over 5,000 women and continues to grow.
– The Women Empowerment Skills Acquisition Program (WESAP) and the MORE Business Upscale Programme (MORE BIZ-UP)** have created jobs and opportunities for wealth generation.

In the realm of agriculture, Governor Oborevwori has provided agricultural inputs to over 6,000 farmers to enhance production and food security across the state.

He has committed N1 billion in counterpart funding for the African Union Development Agency – New Partnership for African Development, aimed at empowering more than 2,000 farmers in various sectors, including poultry, fish farming, cassava cultivation, maize crops, and pepper production.

Governor Oborevwori’s administration has also garnered numerous accolades for its achievements. Awards from ThisDay and Arise Media Group, Daily Telegraph Newspaper, and Vanguard Newspapers for Good Governance underscore the impactful strides of his government.

Currently, his administration is executing 513 road projects spanning over 1,300 kilometers and constructing 950 kilometers of drainage across the three Senatorial Districts of Delta State, demonstrating a significant commitment to infrastructure.

In my opinion, Governor Oborevwori’s successes can largely be attributed to his prudent financial management, zero tolerance for corruption, and an unwavering commitment to the ethics of good governance.

In the health sector, he has made significant advancements, such as upgrading and re-equipping 150 Primary Healthcare Centers and General Hospitals, sustaining the mother and child free medical program, and increasing enrollment in the Delta State Contributory Health Insurance Scheme to over two million— the highest figure of any state in Nigeria.

Also, his commitment to peace and security has led to recent successes by security agencies in the state. The signing of the Delta State Electricity Power Sector Bill, 2024, aims to open Delta State for massive industrialization, highlighting his focus on transformative leadership.

Governor Oborevwori has emerged as the PDP poster boy for modern leadership. His leadership style has earned him praise and accolades from critical stakeholders across Nigeria, leading to an increasing demand for his continued governance.

This growing support emphasizes that it would be a disservice for any son from Delta Central to contend for the position of Governor in the upcoming 2027 elections, as the people believe that Governor Oborevwori should continue leading the state.

As he continues to make significant strides in transforming Delta State, I am confident that Governor Oborevwori deserves to maintain his momentum of success. His achievements speak volumes about his capacity and capability as a leader, making a compelling case for his re-election in 2027.

*Defection: Onyeme Affirms Oborevwori’s Commitment to Equitable Political Patronage*

By Sunday Apah

The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, has assured the people of Delta that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori will provide equal political opportunities for all.

Speaking on Thursday in Asaba at a large meeting with leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Ndokwa region, Onyeme emphasized the governor’s inclusive approach.

The meeting included members of the Delta State House of Assembly, commissioners, local government council chairmen, and other political figures who transitioned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). They gathered alongside former APC leaders such as Chief Johnson Opone, Rt. Hon. Olisa Imegwu, and Hon. Paul Okpue, among others.

During the event, Sir Onyeme stated, “We have a governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, who will treat everyone fairly, irrespective of their political affiliation. Before our transition from the PDP to the APC, many who opposed him were still granted political appointments, and everyone knows I engage with you based on your individual merits rather than your party alignment.”

He encouraged those present to actively support both Governor Oborevwori and President Bola Tinubu, asserting that genuine support would lead to political rewards.

“I’m pleased to see everyone gathered here today, which reflects our unified purpose. Where there is unity, there is progress, and the greatest benefit of our shift from the PDP to the APC is that we will bring more democratic benefits to our community.”

As a cohesive group, he urged the attendees to operate as one family, putting aside any previous party distinctions.

“It is heartening to see that nearly all current APC members were once part of the PDP. Let us move past any divisions and work together to ensure that the Ndokwa ethnic group serves as a model for others to emulate.”

Deputy Governor Onyeme concluded, “Please remember, we are a united people within one large political family, which is the APC.”

Chief Johnson Opone also spoke, congratulating Governor Oborevwori for accepting President Tinubu’s invitation to contribute to Nigeria’s advancement. He remarked, “Your call for unity is crucial for us to strengthen our family ties. Under your leadership, we believe Ndokwa will shine as an exemplary region.”

Opone assured everyone that respected APC leaders in Ndokwa are aware of the meeting’s intentions and are committed to elevating Ndokwa’s presence in the new era of collaboration.

He reminded attendees that when a governor joins a party, that governor assumes the role of the party leader. “We hope you will include us in relevant discussions at the state, local government, and ward levels so that government policies can benefit both new and long-standing members in our Ndokwa communities.”

The old APC members welcomed Sir Onyeme, recognizing him as a significant leader in the new phase of the Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency.

During the event, Delta State Commissioner for Finance Sir Fidelis Tilije and others reaffirmed Onyeme’s leadership within the APC in Ndokwa. They called for a more unified and robust APC moving forward.

Following the passing of the previous Ovie of Udu Kingdom, HRM Emmanuel Bethel Otete Delekpe Esq., and the subsequent calls for a new leader from various factions within and outside the kingdom, reverred entrepreneur and Chairman of O-Secul Nigeria Limited, Engr Mike Orugbo, has agreed to ascend the throne as the next Ovie of the Udu people in Delta State.

This significant decision followed a visit on Thursday from the leadership of the Okporua Ruling House to his home in Ogbe-Udu. This gathering, in accordance with the 1979 Edict governing succession to the throne, included Presidents, Secretaries, Youth Leaders, Women, and Elders from five communities within Okporua: Ogbe-Udu, Oghior, Ukpiovwin, Okolor-Waterside, and Okolor-Inland. They earnestly urged Engr Orugbo to accept the position of King for the Udu Kingdom.

The visit was deemed essential after numerous attempts by local leaders, religious figures, political representatives, professional groups, and other stakeholders to convince him to embrace this prestigious role. Although Orugbo had expressed contentment with his peaceful retirement from decades of involvement in the oil sector, the significant show of support during the visit proved overwhelming.

During the event, Deacon Nigeria Okorode, representing the communities, passionately encouraged Orugbo to accept the crown, emphasizing that Udu needed capable leadership that could elevate its status. He noted that having Engr Mike Orugbo as the monarch would be a source of pride for the entire kingdom.

Expressing gratitude for the overwhelming endorsement from the Okporua ruling house—empowered to choose the next King—Engr Orugbo acknowledged the show of unity and support. He stated that with such a strong backing, he felt compelled to accept the honor.

“I belong to you all, and you are part of me. If my family and community have come together to support this, I have no choice but to accept. I hereby declare my acceptance to be the next King of Udu Kingdom. With your encouragement, we will work towards a prosperous future for Udu,” he affirmed.

The announcement was met with joyous celebrations, as attendees erupted into song and dance, commemorating the selection of a qualified leader for the Udu Kingdom.

Following this momentous occasion, chiefs and distinguished individuals from all seven ruling houses of Udu came to pay their respects and celebrate Engr Mike Orugbo’s ascension to Kingship.

Representatives from the Owhorhu Ruling House included Chief C.C.I Whiliki and Chief Udumarho Segba, while Okporua had Chief Luke Djebah, Chief Okoro Tagbovwere, and Engr Alex Neyin, who possesses the authority to crown Kings. Other notable figures included Chief Akunuhor Esiso, Hon Jonathan Karo Goru, and Engr Nelson Odien.

Representatives from the Orhuwhorun, Adadja, Owhrode, and Uloho Ruling Houses were also present, including Chief B.J Egbetamah, Chief Millicent Miller, Chief Eddie Ono-Sorhue, Dcn. Raymond Edijala, Chief Mike Oghenekaro, Barr Moses Odibo, Chief Richard Odibo, Chief Austin Emaduku, Chief James Akpowan, Hon Justice Irikefe Iyasere, Chief Steve Sokoh, Chief Henry Afure Sakpra, and Hon Henry Apunu, leader of the Udu legislative arm from the Ovwian ruling House.

All chiefs pledged their loyalty to Engr Mike Orugbo and urged the community to unite behind their new monarch to accelerate Udu’s development. Barr Moses Uchere, President of the Oghior community and Chairman of the Forum of Community Presidents in Okporua Ruling House, underscored that Okporua speaks as one and stands behind this endorsement.

The Udu Council Chairman, Olorogun Vincent Oyibode, also conveyed his support from Asaba, reinforcing the community’s united front.

The next step involves the Okporua Ruling House formally recommending Engr Mike Orugbo to the Udu Traditional Council, which will ratify the nomination according to the 1979 Edict, paving the way for his coronation.

Sources confirm that Engr Mike Orugbo’s formal crowning and presentation to the Udu community will be organized shortly, culminating in an official handover of the staff of office from the government.

*NBM Of Africa Condemns Edo State Govt’s Demolition Of Inter’l Secretariat*

By Sunday Apah

Neo Black Movement (NBM) of Africa, a reputable Non Governmental Organization (NGO), has condemned in strong terms the unlawful demolition of its International Secretariat, situated at Oba Ewuare II Cultural Centre 7, Arena Way, Amagba, Benin City, by Governor Monday Okpebholo, of Edo state, describing it as an abuse of power.

In a statement signed by
Olorogun Ese Kakor and Chief Kelvin Agbroko, national President and Secretary respectively, the body decried the action of Edo State Government, noting that such unconstitutional and ultra vires decision contradicted provisions of the constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria, considering the fact that the organization was a duly registered entity.

According to the body, the provisions of Section 7 of the Secret Cult and Similar Activities (Prohibition) Law, 2025, which the Edo State Government relied upon to carry out the demolition, contravene the provisions of the Constitution as contained in Sections 36, 40, 42, 43, and 44 of the CFRN 1999, as amended as Section 7 of the Secret Cult and Similar Activities (Prohibition) Law, 2025.

It reaffirmed that the aspect of the provision relied upon by Governor Okpebholo, in ordering the demolition of its international Secretariat was totally in contradiction with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic and therefore null and void to the extent of its inconsistency.

The statement read in part; “NBM of Africa is a registered Non-Governmental Organization that carries out humanitarian services. The organization also protects, preserves, and promotes African culture. It was founded under the principles of Pan-Africanism on 16th October 1977 and registered as a Non-Governmental Organization under Part C of CAMA on 24th February 1994 with registration No. 7729”.

“The organization has over 200 branches, all in Nigeria and the diaspora. It has its international secretariat at Amagba, Benin City, Edo State. The International Secretariat, which was built over a period of time and completed in the year 2022, comprises a 2000-capacity event center, a 20-room accommodation facility, fully furnished offices, a skill acquisition center, and is fully air-conditioned”.

“The secretariat has been functioning with a 250kVA generator to power the entire facility. The amphitheater is a state-of-the-art facility”.

“The Skills Acquisition Center is meant to empower over 300 persons annually while it has over 100 employees. The property has been coexisting with neighbors. It has a free entry and exit that is open to members of the public”.

“The Edo State Government is a beneficiary of the organization’s humanitarian and charitable services. In February 2025, the organization donated school desks, chairs, doors, windows, and writing materials to 12 primary and secondary schools recommended by the Edo State Government. The schools and pupils are still reeling from the benefits of the humanitarian gesture of the organization”.

“On Wednesday, 30th April 2025, the Edo State Government mobilized bulldozers and its staff to the international secretariat of the organization to carry out the demolition of the entire building without prior notice”.

“The team of the Edo State Government that was mobilized to the secretariat was accompanied by fierce-looking policemen and soldiers who provided security cover for the state team that carried out the demolition”.

“The entire building was pulled down, and the movable properties contained therein were destroyed”

Continuing; “The act of the Edo State Government in demolishing the building and the destruction of the movable properties contained therein is totally condemnable”.

“The act is unconstitutional and ultra vires the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, particularly the relevant provisions of Sections 36, 40, 42, 43, and 44 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended”

“It is noteworthy that the provisions of Section 7 of the Secret Cult and Similar Activities (Prohibition) Law, 2025, which the Edo State Government relied upon to carry out the demolition, contravene the provisions of the Constitution as contained in Sections 36, 40, 42, 43, and 44 of the CFRN 1999, as amended”.

“We emphasize that Section 7 of the Secret Cult and Similar Activities (Prohibition) Law, 2025, is inconsistent with the provisions of the Constitution of the FGN and therefore null and void to the extent of its inconsistency”.

“The organization is exploring all legal means to remedy the wrong and seek redress over the unjustifiable and barbaric actions of the Edo State Government”.

“NBM of Africa is a law-abiding organization with over three million members, including senior citizens, professionals, captains of industry, businessmen, civil servants, and politicians”.

“The organization does not accommodate or harbor criminals. The Neo Black Movement is not a criminal organization. We have repeatedly informed the public that the Neo Black Movement is not Black Axe and has never been known as Black Axe; thus, the name should not be used interchangeably with Black Axe. The Neo Black Movement (NBM) of Africa is not a cult group. The organization is a body dedicated to African unity”.

“The organization has carried out over six thousand humanitarian services around the world, which includes visiting and distributing palliatives worth one hundred and fifty million naira to victims of the flood disaster that ravaged thirteen states in Nigeria in 2023, namely Edo, Imo, Anambra, Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Abia, Kogi, Kaduna, Benue, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Nassarawa states”.

“In 2022, the sum of two million naira was also given to the victims of the St. Francis Catholic Church terrorist attack at Owo, Ondo State. In 2024, the organization visited the Okuama IDP camp situated at Ewu, Delta State, where the sum of two million naira and palliatives worth over fifteen million naira were given to the victims”.

“In 2024, the organization visited and shared palliatives worth over fifteen million naira and a cash donation of five million naira to the Maiduguri flood victims”

“The people of Edo State have always benefited from the organization’s humanitarian gestures. We know that the actions of the Edo State Governor to demolish the international secretariat of our organization have a political undertone, and we totally condemn his actions because they are unconstitutional”.

“The organization has members who are his political opponents. Members of the organization are free to belong to any political party of their choice. The organization is apolitical, non-tribal, and non-religious. Members are free to associate with other organizations whose aims and objectives are not secretive to the public”.

“The organization has more of its members in the ruling party in Nigeria (APC). We still wonder why the Governor would be so vindictive as to demolish the organization’s structure because of a few of its members who have affiliations with other political parties”.

“We also observed that the political opponents of the Edo State Governor have had their houses marked for demolition. Does that mean that members of the organization who are also members of the ruling party and are close to the corridors of power in Edo State will have their houses marked for demolition or demolished”?

“Sadly, the NBM leadership observes with dissatisfaction that, to date, His Excellency Monday Okpepholo, the Executive Governor of Edo State, is yet to provide any credible and persuasive reasons within a legal ambit justifying the malicious demolition of the organization’s International Secretariat”.

“The Neo Black Movement (NBM) of Africa as a legal entity and a law abiding organization will use any legal means within its reach to seek justice; hence, the organization has filed a case of fundamental right action at the Federal High Court in Benin against the Edo State Government”. It concluded.

The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, has officially announced his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) alongside twenty-one other former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This significant political realignment among lawmakers comes as part of broader changes within the state’s political landscape.
With this shift, the Delta State House of Assembly has now become a one-party body, as only seven members, who were originally elected under the APC banner, remain in the assembly.
During the resumption of plenary on Tuesday following the Easter break, Speaker Guwor explained that their collective decision was reached after thorough discussions with their constituents and influential political figures across the state.
He affirmed that this transition adheres to Section 109 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.
Guwor expressed gratitude to his colleagues for their contributions thus far and urged them to prioritize the passage of pending legislation as the current legislative session draws to a close.
He highlighted that the decision to join the APC reflects the necessity of unifying with the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
“The mass exodus from the PDP, steered by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, to the APC is ultimately in the best interests of the people of Delta State,” the Speaker remarked.
He further described how extensive consultations held on April 23 led up to a formal gathering on April 28, 2025, where the decision was publicly affirmed.
“We are dedicated to collaborating with the Federal Government to ensure significant development for our constituents,” he stated.
On behalf of the assembly, he commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his decisive and forward-thinking leadership in this pivotal move.
“Our legislative body wholeheartedly supports the Governor in this initiative. It is vital that this renewed cooperation between the state and the Federal Government is nurtured to yield benefits for our people as swiftly as possible.”
Guwor informed members of the assembly that he had received notifications of party affiliation changes from twenty-two lawmakers, including himself, formally declaring their shift from PDP to APC.
He attributed this defection to ongoing turmoil within the PDP’s national leadership and the factional strife evident in the South-South Zonal Executive Committee, which has caused disunity within the party.
Reiterating the constitutional justification for their actions, the Speaker cited Section 109(1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.
“With this transition, the Delta State House of Assembly is now exclusively composed of members from the APC. We appreciate our constituents for supporting this progressive direction.”
A motion to formally adopt the letters of party affiliation changes was introduced by the Majority Leader, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, and seconded by Hon. Ferguson Onwo, representing Isoko South II.
After the plenary session, Majority Leader Nwaobi emphasized that their decision to defect was a direct result of the internal conflicts within the PDP.
“Our choice stemmed from the instability at the national level and the factionalism at the regional level. Thus, we opted to align ourselves with the ruling All Progressives Congress, following Section 109 of the 1999 Constitution, as amended,” he concluded.Delta Speaker, 21 PDP Members Switch Allegiance to APC
