Ubulu-Uku Kingdom in Turmoil: Young King Criticized for Abandoning Throne, Delegating Powers to Uncles

By Sunday Apah

The drama surrounding Obi Chukwuka Noah Akaeze I, the young king of Ubulu-Uku Kingdom in Delta State, Nigeria, continues to unfold. As one of the youngest kings in Nigeria, he ascended the throne at just 15 years old in 2016 after his father, Obi Akaeze Edward Ofolue III, was tragically murdered.

The Ubulu-Uku Kingdom has been embroiled in controversy, with the Onishe (Prime Minister) Chief James Onwordi Ibori Ubulu affirming his support for the king, while others, including some of the king’s uncles, have allegedly attempted to undermine his authority.

Obi Chukwuka Noah Akaeze I has pursued his education abroad, earning a law degree from a UK university in 2019. Despite completing his education, he has refused to return home to lead his people.

The subjects of Ubulu-Uku Kingdom Ngozi Emma and Ofulue Chukwuweike have expressed frustration with the king’s absence, calling for him to return and lead the kingdom directly. They’ve also criticized his uncles for allegedly manipulating the situation and disrupting the kingdom’s peace.

They said the Obi should stop delegating powers to his uncles when there is a council of chiefs in the kingdom. They noted that they are tired of Obi remaining incommunicado despite efforts of the kingdom to reach out to him.

They said the Obi was crowned to lead his people from home and not from diaspora.

They also said the Obi’s uncles are being manipulative as they have been seen distorting the peace of the kingdom. They kick against the Obi handling powers to his uncle to take decisions which is against the Ubulu-Uku traditions.

“As at today, the kingdom is lacking behind because our Obi is unreachable. We don’t know if he is ready to lead us and if he is not ready, he should let us know and not abandoning the people who crowned him Obi.

This is unacceptable because as at today, nobody in the kingdom can reach out to the Obi.

The council of chiefs can’t reach him despite our efforts and it’s becoming worrisome.

The obi uncles told him not to communicate with anyone and that is why no chiefs in the kingdom can reach him.

The uncles are saying even the Delta State Government will have to passed through them before reaching the Obi.

The Peace and conflict resolution office make efforts at reaching out to the obi but it proved abortive, and the local government council has also reached out to the mother of the obi but the uncles blocked the communication.

Since the mother of the Obi left our kingdom, she hasn’t return back and she has disowned and bared the Obi from coming to Nigeria.

Today the Obi uncles have because issues in our kingdom, they are busy selling lands and building housing for themselves.

The obi as at today does not have house in his kingdom.

We love the Obi and we want him to return so he can lead us peacefully without his uncles interference.

We are tired of having an Obi who we can’t communicate to,” they said while urging the government of Delta State to look into the issues.

In a related development, The Onishe warned against disrespecting the throne, emphasizing the kingdom’s intolerance for insults or disrespect towards its traditional ruler or institution.

Waive made this known during a meeting of the Ughelli North, Ughelli South, and Udu Federal Constituency Forum held at Ovwian, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.

Just In: Court Stops PDP’s National Convention Due to Electoral Law Violations

0

By Sunday Apah

The Federal High Court in Abuja issued a ruling on Friday to prevent the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from carrying out its planned national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, scheduled for November 15 and 16, until further notice.

In a decision on case number FHC/ABJ/CS/2120/2025, Justice James Omotosho mandated the postponement of the convention until the party adheres to the requirements outlined in its own constitution, the Nigerian Constitution, and the provisions of the Electoral Act.

The lawsuit was filed by three disgruntled party members: Austin Nwachukwu (PDP chairman of Imo State), Amah Abraham Nnanna (PDP chairman of Abia State), and Turnah Alabh George (PDP Secretary for the South-South region).

The plaintiffs sought an injunction to block the PDP’s upcoming national convention in Ibadan, intended for the election of new national officials, arguing that the event contravened both the Electoral Act and the PDP’s internal regulations.

The defendants named in the case include the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the PDP, Samuel Anyanwu (the National Secretary), Umar Bature (the National Organising Secretary), along with members of the National Working Committee, the National Executive Committee, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, Ali Odefa, and Emmanuel Ogidi.

In delivering the ruling, Justice Omotosho concluded that evidence presented in court indicated that the PDP did not adhere to the mandates of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), INEC guidelines, and its own constitutional provisions.

The court determined that the PDP had failed to conduct valid state congresses prior to organizing the national convention to elect its national officers.

As a result, Justice Omotosho instructed the PDP to “reorganize itself internally and provide the required statutory 21-day notice to INEC before proceeding with the proposed convention.”

The judge further prohibited INEC from recognizing or accepting the results of any PDP national convention that does not comply with proper legal procedures and INEC regulations.

The court emphasized that INEC is not permitted to validate the outcomes of any political party convention that fails to meet the stipulations of the Constitution, the Electoral Act, and the relevant guidelines of the party.

Additionally, the court rejected preliminary objections from defendants questioning its jurisdiction, asserting that the issue at hand was not merely an internal party matter.

Also, on October 30, 2025, at approximately 11:40 AM, the Divisional Police Officer of Ekpan Division received a distress report of a suspected kidnapping incident in the Ubeji Community, behind the Ubeji Gas Plant.

“Upon sighting the approaching police teams, the suspected kidnappers fled into an abandoned poultry house within the same community.”

By Kesiena Fegor Ogene

At this pivotal juncture in Urhobo history, as the 2025 UPU election draws near, the destiny of our people hangs on a simple but profound decision to choose wisely, to choose unity, and to choose leadership that truly reflects the greatness of the Urhobo spirit.

The Urhobo Nation stands once again at the crossroads of opportunity and responsibility. It is a moment that calls for introspection, for courage, and for the collective will to redefine our place in Nigeria’s political, cultural, and economic future.

The story of the Urhobo people is one of resilience, intellect, and enduring contribution. For generations, we have produced men and women of exceptional talent, scholars, administrators, captains of industry, and patriots whose legacies have shaped Nigeria’s growth. Yet, amid these successes, our political voice and internal cohesion have too often been weakened by division and short-term interests. The 2025 UPU election offers us the rare opportunity to rebuild that unity and restore the dignity of Urhobo leadership through a man who represents the best of our heritage, experience, and moral strength.

That man is *Chief Simeon Akpovwoghokohwo Ohwofa.*

*A Life That Defines Urhobo Leadership*

*Chief Simeon Ohwofa* is not just a respected elder in our society; he is a distinguished leader whose character, integrity, and wisdom embody the very ideals the Urhobo Nation must now reclaim. His life of selfless service, both in private enterprise and public commitment, continues to inspire generations of Urhobo sons and daughters. He is a man who has lived not for himself, but for his people and through his actions, has built a legacy that speaks louder than words.

A graduate of the University of Ibadan with a B.Sc. in Agricultural Biochemistry & Nutrition, and an MBA from the University of Benin, Chief Ohwofa combines academic brilliance with administrative excellence. His professional journey began in one of the world’s most respected global companies, Roche Nigeria Limited (Vitamin Division) where he rose to become Departmental Head before retiring honorably in 1995. That experience in global corporate leadership became the foundation for his vision of development rooted in discipline, innovation, and human capital.

As the founder and Managing Director of Nutrivitas Limited and O.M. Simons Nigeria Limited, he built enterprises that not only contributed to Nigeria’s food and animal-nutrition industry but also empowered young professionals across the country. Through his businesses, Chief Ohwofa demonstrated that true leadership is not about personal gain, but about creating opportunities for others to thrive.

*A Legacy of Service and Cultural Stewardship*

Beyond his professional success, Chief Ohwofa has been an unwavering pillar of Urhobo unity and identity. As Coordinator of the Urhobo Historical Society (UHS), he has worked tirelessly to preserve Urhobo history, culture, and intellectual heritage ensuring that our story remains alive in the consciousness of future generations. As former President of the Urhobo Social Club, Lagos, he brought Urhobo professionals and elites under one purpose, community advancement and mutual support, strengthening the social fabric that binds our people both at home and in the diaspora.

His philanthropy is equally profound. Through scholarship programs for Urhobo students at both secondary and tertiary levels, he has touched lives and invested in the future of Urhobo youth. In Chief Ohwofa, we see a man who believes that education is not a privilege, but a pathway to dignity and progress.

His role as Director of DavoDani Microfinance Bank also reflects his enduring commitment to financial empowerment and grassroots development. He has consistently championed economic inclusion, helping families, small businesses, and rural communities gain access to credit and financial growth.

*A Statesman for the Present and the Future*

Chief Simeon Ohwofa’s leadership philosophy is rooted in humility, vision, and moral clarity. At a time when Nigeria is redefining regional and ethnic alliances, the Urhobo Nation needs a leader who commands respect, not just for his titles, but for his values. Chief Ohwofa’s calm strength, refined intellect, and unwavering respect for Urhobo tradition make him the ideal bridge between generations, uniting elders and youths, professionals and traditionalists, those at home and those abroad.

This election is not merely about positions, it is about purpose. It is about giving Urhobo a voice that cannot be ignored, a direction that cannot be lost, and a leadership that cannot be compromised.

Chief Simeon Ohwofa embodies all three; competence, credibility, and character. His leadership is not about politics; it is about people. It is about restoring Urhobo dignity, renewing Urhobo unity, and redefining Urhobo destiny.

*A Call to Urhobo Conscience*

In Chief Simeon Ohwofa, we find a mirror of what Urhobo greatness truly means, intellect guided by humility, power shaped by service, and legacy built on love for one’s people. His life story is proof that leadership is not a pursuit of privilege, but a commitment to principle.

As Urhobo moves toward the 2025 UPU election, let history record that we chose not just a man, but a mission.
