By Sunday Apah

The case of alleged forgery of a deed of transfer against Mr. Joseph Jefia by the federal government has been adjourned to on 17th and 18th of June 2025 for hearing.

It should be recalled that Jefia was brought before the Federal High Court of Nigeria in the Abuja Judicial Division, under charge no. FHC/ABJ/CR/501/2024, where the Federal Government is the complainant and Joseph Jefia is the defendant.

The case includes five counts, emphasizing that Joseph Jefia, at some point in 2012, forged a deed of transfer dated either March 1 or March 2, 1978, or 1979, with the intent for it to be used as genuine in Nigeria, ultimately to the detriment of the beneficiaries of the estate of the late Chief Harrison Jefia. This act is punishable under Section 1 of the Miscellaneous Offences Act CAP M 17 LFN 2004.

Count 2 states that Jefia forged the signature of Chief Harrison Jefia on the aforementioned forged deed of transfer, again intending for it to be used as genuine, violating Section 1(2)(C) of the same Act.

Count 3 alleges that Jefia obtained property by deception, falsely claiming that Chief Harrison Jefia—who was neither a shareholder nor a director of Jefia Properties Ltd—had transferred properties to the company where Joe Jefia’s mother holds majority shares. This action is also punishable under Section 1(2)(C) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act CAP M 17 LFN 2004.

Count 4 accuses Jefia of forging the signature of the company secretary of Jefia Properties Ltd on a deed of transfer, with the intent for it to be treated as genuine, thus committing an offense under Section 1(2) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act CAP M 17 LFN 2004.

In Count 5, it is alleged that on or before April 28, 2021, Jefia presented a forged deed of transfer to the Nigerian Police Force’s Legal Department, knowing it to be false. This act is also punishable under Section 1(2)(C) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act CAP M 17 LFN 2004.

The DAILY SHINE NEWS team was in court when the case was called for hearing on 14th May 2025, but Jefia’s new solicitor pleaded for an adjournment to enable him to study the case.

The court subsequently adjourned the case to the 17th and 18th of June 2025 for hearing.

Why We Passed a Vote of Confidence in Tinubu, Oborevwori, Dafinone, Waive – U3 Forum

The Ughelli North, Ughelli South, Udu Federal Constituency (U3) Forum, a political advocacy group within the All Progressives Congress (APC), has reaffirmed its steadfast support for the re-elections of President Bola Tinubu, Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Senator Ede Dafinone, Rt. Hon. Francis Waive, and all APC candidates in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

This was made known during a gathering where the Forum welcomed Senator Ede Dafinone, representing the Delta Central Senatorial District, along with Hon. Francis Waive, who serves the Ughelli North, Ughelli South, and Udu Federal Constituency.

The meeting took place over the weekend at the residence of Chief John Oguma, the Forum’s Chairman, in Ovwor-Olomu, Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state.

During the meeting, the Forum passed a unanimous vote of confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Senator Ede Dafinone, and Hon. Francis Waive.

The motion was introduced by Barr. Jaro Egbo, Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area, and was seconded by Chief Adelabu Bojor, former APC Delta Central Senatorial Chairman.

Chief John Oguma, the Forum’s Chairman, emphasized the need to support Tinubu’s return to leadership, stating, “We must ensure that Tinubu is back in the Villa. This decision is firm.

“The same applies to our governor—he is performing exceptionally. He is the only leader in our history to receive a chieftaincy title from all 24 Urhobo kings, which highlights unity and respect.”

Oguma also paid tribute to Senator Dafinone, recalling their political collaboration with the Senator’s father in the National Party of Nigeria (NPN).

He remarked, “I served as a youth leader when his father was a Senator. Now, his son is continuing that legacy. His father completed two terms, and it’s expected that he will as well.”

He further acknowledged Hon. Waive’s contributions, stating, “For many years, we sent representatives to the National Assembly without seeing significant impact.

“Today, we have a representative who has successfully established a Federal Medical Centre in Udu, facilitated a Federal School of Nursing, and set up a world-class Computer School. This is the kind of politics I believe in—prioritizing human capital development.”

Oguma highlighted the collective decision of the Forum: “When I made this proclamation, no one disputed it. The support was immense. Our political approach is about ‘we’ not ‘I.’”

He urged mutual respect among members, saying, “If it’s not your turn now, it might be yours in the future. We have one governor and one president. It’s crucial that we remain loyal and support their leadership. Opposing them is effectively opposing the will of God, who placed them in power.”

Senator Ede Dafinone, speaking at the event, acknowledged the newfound unity in Delta politics. “There is no longer an opposition in Delta. We are united under one party with one goal. There are no winners or losers here; we are all victorious,” he asserted.

He praised Governor Oborevwori’s efforts to bridge party divides, stating, “Integrating the PDP bloc into the APC was a visionary and unifying move. Federal appointments are now channeled through the governor’s office, promoting restored discipline and structure.”

Regarding the national economy, Dafinone remarked, “The last two years have been challenging, but under President Tinubu’s leadership, signs of economic recovery are emerging. The difficult decisions made are beginning to pay off.”

Hon. Francis Waive expressed gratitude for the Forum’s support, stating, “When your community endorses you and expresses confidence in your candidacy, it’s truly humbling.”

He highlighted the creation of the Federal Medical Centre in Oleri, established through a law signed by President Tinubu, as a significant legislative achievement. “We are witnessing unparalleled unity. Governor Oborevwori has successfully united political factions, which epitomizes effective leadership.”

The dignitaries also praised Olorogun Emuoboh Gbagi’s decision to dedicate the plaza to God, highlighting the importance of faith and gratitude in his endeavor.

They cautioned against the temptations that can accompany wealth, stating that many heirs may have chosen a different route, but Chief Emuoboh Gbagi has shown remarkable integrity.

Delta State to Launch Impact Assessment of Servicom Policies

By Sunday Apah

Delta State is set to initiate a systematic impact assessment of its policies under the reintroduced Service Compact, known as Servicom.

This initiative aims to enhance the timely provision of services and ensure that the state meets its goals and expectations effectively.

During a meeting with the Servicom nodal officers from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in Asaba, Chief Funkekeme Solomon, Senior Policy Adviser to the Governor, announced the implementation of a framework for regular evaluation of these policies and programs.

Solomon emphasized that there will be periodic reviews aligned with the performance benchmarks established with Servicom’s return, which will be assessed regularly through quarterly monitoring meetings.

“The governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, is deeply committed to improving service delivery across Delta State. It is important for nodal officers to report directly to the Servicom Unit rather than their respective organization heads, ensuring that all observations and reports are addressed appropriately for policy evaluation,” he stated.

As the official overseeing the Labour Relations and Servicom units, Solomon highlighted the importance of accountability in achieving the government’s development vision.

“If a policy is found to be less effective than anticipated, it is crucial that officers bring this to attention for a thorough review. Continuous monitoring of services is essential. As nodal officers, you are responsible for assessing both the effectiveness and timeliness of services provided by public officials,” he remarked.

He also instructed all Servicom officers to submit monthly reports to his office, which will facilitate further discussions with relevant officials based on their findings and recommendations.

Addressing the challenges faced by nodal officers in fulfilling their roles, Solomon assured them that issues would be addressed as funding becomes available.

Accompanying the Senior Policy Adviser were Mrs. Uche Onwusanya, Director of Servicom and Labour Relations, and Mr. Pius Mordi, Special Assistant on Policy.

Human-Centric Governance: Governor Oborevwori Enhances Infrastructure at Delta NYSC Camp

By Sunday Apah

Delta State’s Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, has emphasized that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration is defined by its empathetic and people-focused governance style, aimed at benefiting the community.

Izeze made these remarks while inspecting the ongoing construction of internal roads and drainage systems at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp in Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area, on Tuesday.

The Commissioner expressed the Governor’s deep concern regarding the poor condition of the internal roads at the camp and acknowledged the impact this might have on Corps members’ perceptions of the state.

“Up until now, the internal roads within the NYSC Orientation Camp were nearly non-existent,” he noted. “With the arrival of the rainy season, the situation has only worsened, leaving the camp area muddy and challenging to navigate.”

He continued, “For many Corps members, their time at the NYSC camp represents their only experience with Delta State. Some may come, seek redeployment, and leave, but their impression will be shaped solely by their time at the Issele-Uku camp.”

“Governor Oborevwori recognizes this reality,” Izeze commented. “He believes that the three weeks Corps members spend at the orientation camp should be memorable and welcoming. Such understanding only comes from a leader who values human-centric governance.”

The Commissioner highlighted that the Governor’s empathy stems from personal experience, noting that his own children have served in the NYSC. “This helps him appreciate the importance of comfort and conducive living conditions for the Corps members at the camp,” he said.

As a result, the Governor has approved the construction of internal roads within the camp, especially in areas where Corps members stay, hold parades, and participate in recreational activities. The plan includes building 1.2 kilometers of roads accompanied by 2.4 kilometers of covered drainage.

Upon project completion, Izeze anticipates that many will refer to the Governor as “the Governor Quality” due to the high standards and thoughtful aesthetics of the finished work.

The contractor, Mr. Rony Karam, reported that the project is on track to be completed within two months, with much of the drainage work already finished. “As you can see, the drainage is nearly complete. Soon, we will begin the earthworks, laying the stone base, and finally, the asphalt. We expect to finish within two months,” he stated.

In a related update, Commissioner Izeze expressed disappointment regarding the stalled Nnemiyi erosion control project, which was designed to connect to the storm drainage system of the Okpanam–Ibusa Bypass Road.

“This is a project we inherited from the previous administration and has been left unattended for over two years. Clearly, it has faced significant delays,” he said. “I plan to report this situation to the Governor.”

He added, “From my assessment, the project’s stagnation appears to stem from the contractor’s inability to fulfill the terms of their agreement for reasons unknown. Consequently, I will recommend to His Excellency that this project be terminated due to its evident delays and failures.”

Ughelli Council Chairman Responds to Allegations, Affirms Commitment to Good Governance

The Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Olorogun Jaro Egbo, has addressed a series of allegations against his administration, urging critics to base their comments on factual information.

He emphasized his dedication to transparency, accountability, and effective governance during a recent press conference and site visit to ongoing projects.

A senior lawyer, Egbo dismissed the accusations made by certain family and community members regarding misconduct and financial improprieties.

He asserted that it is crucial to respond to the recent surge of misleading and unfounded claims directed at him.

“The intentional dissemination of false information is a deliberate move to damage my reputation, undermine my administration, and cast doubt on the leadership of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori,” he stated.

“I will not be swayed by slanderous attacks or misleading narratives that threaten the public’s trust in government.”

Egbo reiterated, “My priority is to provide effective governance while adhering to the principles of integrity and service to the citizens of Ughelli North.

“I am confident that a detailed and impartial investigation will reveal the baseless nature of these accusations.”

He specifically addressed concerns regarding contract awards, stating, “It is important to clarify that Skyviaro Properties Development Company Limited is not a registered contractor with our local government and has not received any contracts.

“I have no personal ties to this company, having stepped away from any involvement. All contract processes under my administration have adhered to due procedures and regulations.”

He urged relevant authorities to intervene promptly to avert further damage to the government’s credibility and to maintain peace among the community.

“If this orchestrated smear campaign continues, I will consider taking legal action against those involved and their affiliations,” he warned, reiterating his resolve to stay focused on delivering quality governance and maintaining integrity.

During his tenure, now spanning ten months, Egbo committed to completing various ongoing projects including renovations of his office, the vice chairman’s office, and the offices of other council leaders.

He further mentioned procuring eight official vehicles for key officials and advancing the construction of a children’s cottage hospital in Ughelli.

Egbo further highlighted efforts to build housing for doctors and nurses at the hospital and plans to establish either a police station or a customary court in each of the seven kingdoms within the local government.

His administration is also implementing solar power electrification initiatives for the chairman’s office and solar security lighting for the entire council premises.

He disclosed that he has secured the first batch of 300 writing desks and benches for primary and secondary schools in Ughelli North and has installed a 500KVA transformer in Ekrabovwe Quarter.

In response to the allegations of his suspension by the Abovwe family, Egbo firmly denied these claims, asserting that “these allegations are entirely untrue and disconnected from reality.

“The Abovwe family stands unanimously behind me, and we will not allow falsehoods to tarnish my reputation or our family’s integrity.”

He explained that the document purporting to announce his suspension is a fraudulent fabrication lacking endorsement from the legitimate members of the Abovwe Family Executive Committee.

“The signatures on this document belong to individuals who misunderstood their actions,” he clarified.

Egbo indicated that the roots of these allegations stem from personal grievances and pointed out that one individual, an elder brother who was denied an appointment due to nepotism concerns, is among those behind the rumors.

He also named Mr. Gowon Egoide, a former family chairman, as another source of misinformation, claiming they are attempting to deflect attention from serious allegations concerning the unauthorized sale of family land.

In a show of support, Egbo presented a message from the Abovwe family stating, “Today, we, the Abovwe family of Abovwe Quarter in Uduere Community, Ughelli, unanimously affirm our confidence in Olorogun Jaro Egbo.

“Any rumors regarding his suspension or expulsion are completely false and unfounded. We urge the public to disregard these malicious claims and join us in defending the truth, as there has never been such an event.”

By Sunday Apah

The police in Delta State have arrested seven kidnap suspects and a 49-year-old female child trafficker, and they have recovered N4 million, AK-47 rifles, magazines, locally made guns, cartridges, and other items at various locations in the state.

The State Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, who made this known during a press briefing in Asaba, the state capital, on Thursday, stated that four of the suspects were arrested while the police were on stop-and-search duty.

He explained that on May 12, 2025, at about 9:30 AM, operatives of the Dragon Patrol Team, while conducting stop-and-search along the Kwale/Ozoro express road, intercepted a gold-colored Toyota Sienna bus loaded with passengers traveling from Ughelli to Asaba.

“Upon searching the vehicle, the sum of Three Million One Hundred Thousand Naira (#3,100,000) was recovered from four suspects, namely: Abubakar Alwalu, 25; Usman Husseini, 25; Adamu Mohammed, 30; and Anwalu Umaru, 23.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects belong to a gang of five and were allegedly responsible for the kidnapping of a woman at her house in Ughelli, where they held her captive for four days and collected a ransom of Four Million Naira (#4,000,000) on May 11, 2025.”

Also, on May 10, 2025, at about 5:59 PM, acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) trailed and arrested a suspected kidnapper and gang leader named Abdullahi Ibrahim, 22, of Ekenwa Community in Ovia North-East LGA of Edo State, at Ore Town in Ondo State.

“The suspect led the operatives to the arrest of another suspect and member of his gang known as Adamu Usman, 24, from Abeokuta, who was also taking refuge in Ore town.

“Upon interrogation, the suspects led operatives to a forest along the Ore-Lagos expressway, near a popular area called ‘Stepdown,’ where one AK-47 rifle loaded with fourteen (14) rounds of live ammunition and a locally made long gun with six (6) rounds of live cartridges were recovered.”

In another breakthrough, on May 12, 2025, at about 10:30 AM, acting on credible intelligence related to a kidnapping incident at Itego Community, Ibusa, where one man (name withheld) was kidnapped and an undisclosed amount was paid as ransom, the Commander of the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Squad swiftly mobilized operatives and stormed Koka Junction in Asaba.

“One of the suspects, later identified as Lawal Tasiu, 26, a resident of FCT Abuja, was arrested after a hot chase.

“Upon searching the suspect, the sum of Nine Hundred Thousand Naira (N900,000) was recovered from him.

“During interrogation, the suspect stated that he is a member of a syndicate terrorizing the Ibusa/Ogwashi-Uku/Issele-Azagbe areas, and the money in his possession was part of his share of the ransom collected.

“On May 13, 2025, at about 6:30 AM, the suspect led operatives to their hideout in the Issele-Azagba area, where one AK-47 rifle, one pump-action gun, two AK-47 magazines, and eighty-seven (87) rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition were recovered.”

In another development, on April 7, 2025, at about 10:00 AM, the DPO of Ekpan Police Station received a complaint that a woman (name withheld), aged 20, had embarked on a business trip on February 16, 2025, with Mrs. Joy from Koko to Warri, Delta. While they were on their way, Mrs. Joy allegedly drugged the woman using juice, causing her to fall asleep, and then made away with her two-month-old baby boy.

“Acting on this information, the DPO of Ekpan Police Station embarked on an intelligence-led investigation, trailed, and arrested the suspect, Mrs. Joy Temitope Oyetimi, 49. After discreet interrogation, the suspect stated that indeed she was the one who stole the baby. The baby, who is now five months old, has been rescued and handed over to his parents,” it added.

Delta Government Highlights Achievements Ahead of Oborevwori’s Second Anniversary

By Sunday Apah

Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, has detailed the significant accomplishments of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration in the nearly two years since taking office.

During a press conference in Asaba on Thursday, Aniagwu, accompanied by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, stated that the administration has made “bold and remarkable footprints” throughout the state, particularly in rural infrastructure and public service delivery.

“In close to two years, we can observe significant achievements by Governor Oborevwori and his team. We have constructed roads in various communities, significantly reducing travel time from Asaba to Ughelli to just one hour and forty-five minutes,” Aniagwu noted.

He added that development initiatives have reached many previously underserved coastal areas. “In Ode-Itsekiri, work on the Trans-Warri bridges and access roads to creek communities is advancing well.

“We have also resumed construction on the Ayakoromo Bridge in Burutu Local Government Area, which will facilitate connections between several coastal communities and the upland,” he further explained.

In preparation for the administration’s second anniversary, Aniagwu announced numerous projects slated for inauguration, although the volume of completed projects may prevent the Governor from personally commissioning all of them.

“Key projects include the Beneku Bridge, Ishiagu-Ewulu Road and Bridge, Upper and Lower Erejuwa Roads in Warri, erosion control in Okpanam, Olomoro-Igbide Road, the Otolokpo to Boji-Boji Owa Road, Akumazi-Owere-Olubor Road, and Obi-Ibabu Road, among others.

“We have also installed medical equipment at Asaba Specialist Hospital, Warri Central Hospital, and Delta State University Teaching Hospital in Oghara, all aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery and minimizing medical tourism,” he said.

Aniagwu stressed that some projects might be opened for public use without formal inaugurations. “There are simply too many. In certain cases, members of the State Executive Council will be delegated to oversee inaugurations,” he clarified.

The commissioner reaffirmed Governor Oborevwori’s dedication to the comprehensive development of the state, stating that governance will remain a priority even amidst increasing political activities.

“Governor Oborevwori has directed all cabinet members and agency heads to stay focused. Governance will not be neglected. For every project completed, payments are made promptly after certification, demonstrating our careful resource management,” Aniagwu assured.

He dismissed concerns from critics, asserting, “Anyone suggesting that the administration is losing its grip is mistaken. The Governor is firmly committed to delivering results.”

Regarding job creation, Aniagwu highlighted that the administration has empowered over 250,000 residents of Delta through various programs coordinated by inter-ministerial departments and agencies, including the D-CARES grant initiative.

On the issue of security, he noted the government’s proactive measures to address insecurity. “The Inspector General of Police was recently in the state to commission operational vehicles, and we have also improved street lighting in urban areas,” he added.

When discussing rising housing costs in Asaba and other regions, Aniagwu announced that the government is working to expand livable spaces through a housing initiative that includes the construction of 50 residential units in each local government area. The pilot phase in Ozoro, Owa-Oyibu, and Kwale features 30 three-bedroom flats and 20 two-bedroom flats.

In conclusion, he emphasized that the administration will continue to operate with transparency, efficiency, and a focus on the needs of the people, ensuring ongoing progress throughout Delta State.
