The award was given to him during the 2025 Grow Africa Leadership Summit in Accra, Ghana, an event dedicated to recognizing individuals who have significantly advanced socio-economic development throughout Africa through exceptional innovation and leadership.

Izeze was selected as this year’s laureate after a thorough nomination and evaluation process that included leaders from various sectors across the African continent.

At a ceremony in his Asaba office, Comrade Uzim Temple, President of the Grow Africa Youth Initiative, presented the award to Izeze, commending him for his transformative efforts in Delta State. He emphasized notable infrastructure projects overseen by Izeze, efficient governance, and his steadfast dedication to sustainable development as key reasons for the recognition.

Specific mention was made of Izeze’s initiatives to enhance road networks, improve project management, and promote youth employment through public works programs.

Court Begins Proceedings in NBM’s Legal Action Against Edo State Over Demolition of Property

By Sunday Apah

The Federal High Court in Benin has commenced proceedings in the lawsuit brought forth by the Neo-Black Movement (NBM) of Africa against Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo.

The suit alleges unlawful trespass and the unauthorized demolition of the NBM’s national secretariat, located at the Oba Ewuare II Cultural Centre, Arena Way, Amagba, Benin City, Edo State.

A 28-member legal team from NBM, led by Chief Reginald Asiuwhu, filed the lawsuit on June 4, seeking both justice and compensation for what they term significant violations of their constitutional rights to freedom of association, as well as the illegal destruction of their property.

The Edo State Government is represented by prominent attorneys including Steve Okuro, O.C. Igbinedion, C.C. Chinedu, and H.A. Bello, SAN.

In a court session held on Thursday, H.A. Bello SAN, leading the defense for the Edo State Government, contended that the third defendant in the suit had not been appropriately served with the necessary court documents.

Justice Chukwu Obiozor requested proof of service from NBM’s legal team; however, they were unable to provide it, attributing the issue to a misplaced document.

As a result, Justice Obiozor postponed the case until June 16, 2025, encouraging both parties to prepare thoroughly with all necessary documentation and to follow legal protocols closely.

Outside the courtroom, Chief Reginald Asiuwhu expressed his unwavering confidence in the movement’s case.

He stated, “NBM of Africa is a charitable, non-governmental organization that had its secretariat wrongfully demolished by the Edo State Government.”

“As a responsible government, there should be a valid court order before any property demolition is carried out. This reckless act is what brings us here today to challenge and declare such actions unconstitutional.”

Asiuwhu contended that the characterization of the group as a “cult organization” is defamatory, libelous, and constitutes a sweeping accusation that ignores legal due process.

He added, “Even if there are individuals with misconduct within the organization, it does not taint the entire group. NBM operates like any registered organization in Nigeria and is officially registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in accordance with Nigerian law.”

He also suggested that if the government had concerns, they should have consulted security footage to review activities at the NBM secretariat before taking further legal action.

Describing the demolished secretariat as a “large, well-furnished building” that also served as a community venue for social events, he questioned how such a structure could be demolished without forewarning, allowing any opportunity to salvage items, or providing a fair hearing. “The Edo State Government will bear the consequences of their actions. This will be the final unlawful demolition they undertake,” he asserted, emphasizing that the state would face repercussions.

“As we fight for NBM, we are also standing up for all registered organizations that may be threatened in the future.”

Dr. Sir Chukwudi Ijeoma, President of NBM of Africa Upper South East, expressed, “We are here to contest this unlawful demolition. We are a recognized organization, and the government should acknowledge that.”

The NBM of Africa is taking legal action against what it views as an infringement of its fundamental human rights due to the demolition of its international secretariat.

Meanwhile, representatives of the Edo State Government have refrained from commenting on the ongoing case.

It is noteworthy that on April 30, 2025, the Edo State Government dispatched bulldozers and personnel to the organization’s international secretariat to demolish the entire structure without any prior notice.

Delta Central APC Endorses Tinubu, Oborevwori as Exclusive Candidates for 2027 Elections

By Sunday Apah

In a strong show of solidarity, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Delta Central Senatorial District has officially endorsed President Ahmed Bola Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as their exclusive candidates for the upcoming 2027 elections.

This endorsement came during the APC Delta Central Mega Unity Meeting held in Ughelli, which brought together key political figures and supporters from federal, state, and local government levels. The gathering focused on reinforcing their commitment to President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori’s leadership.

Rt. Hon. Francis Waive, who represents the Ughelli/Udu Federal Constituency, proposed the motion for their adoption, commending President Tinubu’s economic policies and Governor Oborevwori’s effective governance.

Former House of Representatives member, Hon. Halims Agoda, supported the motion, further demonstrating the consensus within the party.

Senator Ede Dafinone, who represents Delta Central, conducted a voice vote on the motion, which was unanimously approved, highlighting the party’s robust support for both leaders.

The assembly also expressed confidence in the leadership of President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori, with local party leaders reaffirming their support for their re-election in 2027.

Chief Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, emphasized that the meeting was designed to enhance unity among party members. He described President Tinubu as an exemplary steward of national resources and pointed out the complementary relationship between the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, which aims to benefit the entire populace.

Keyamo remarked, “This meeting is not merely a routine gathering. This is the ‘Ukodo’ base, and it is imperative that no other senatorial district claims this initiative.”

He further noted that since the inception of democratic governance in 1999, the Urhobo nation in Delta Central has never been as united as it is now, predicting that this unity would enable the APC to secure a 100% vote in Delta State for the first time.

The Unity Meeting is planned to be replicated across the eight local governments in the senatorial district, encouraging leaders to proceed with resolve and purpose.

Elder Omeni Sobotie, the State Chairman of the APC, emphasized the importance of the gathering, which he labeled the “All Progressive Congress, Delta Central Unity Meeting.” He thanked the supporters for their dedication and commended both Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Festus Keyamo for their pivotal roles in promoting party unity.

Chief Paulinus Akpeki, the Chairman of the party in Delta Central Senatorial District, remarked that the state is experiencing a transformative era under Governor Oborevwori and praised his decision to join the APC.

Akpeki stated, “Today signifies a moment of unity, purpose, and vision. It is a day for us to reaffirm our commitment to collectively pave a common path forward.”

Prominent speakers at the event, including 2015 APC gubernatorial candidate Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, Chief Stella Okotete, Executive Director at NEXIM Bank, Chief Adviser to the Delta State Governor Senator Ighoyota Amori, and Chief Jaro Egbo, Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government, reiterated their dedication to unity and promised to collaborate for the party’s success in the forthcoming elections.

The meeting was well attended by members of the National and State Assemblies from the district, federal appointees, commissioners, local government chairpersons, and other political office holders.

God warned me my firstborn will die if I leave RCCG — Pastor Adeboye

0

General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has said that God once gave him a stern warning never to leave the denomination, or face the death of his firstborn.

He shared this revelation during the June edition of the Holy Ghost Service, titled “Destined for Greatness (Part 2),” held in the early hours of Saturday at the Redemption City of God in Ogun State.

While speaking on the theme of divine direction and spiritual steadfastness, Adeboye referred to a message earlier delivered by his son, Pastor Leke Adeboye. He expressed concern over a growing trend among young Christians who frequently switch churches, often introducing themselves as first-time visitors in every new place they attend.

Recalling his own journey of faith, Adeboye said that when he became born again, several thriving ministries were popular and attractive at the time. Despite the appeal, he said God specifically instructed him to remain in RCCG.

“When I got born again, there were three major ministries that were making waves, and they were very good. There were different temptations to go from one to another,” he said. “But God said to me, ‘Son, I brought you here. This is where you will stay. The day you leave this denomination, your firstborn will die.’”

He noted that at the time, RCCG was relatively obscure, with its headquarters located in a modest building in Ebute-Metta, Lagos. Even though he was a university lecturer, he said God commanded him to serve under his spiritual mentor, who had no formal education.

“I was a lecturer at the university. My father in the Lord didn’t go to secondary school, not even primary,” he said. “But God said this is where you will stay.”

Pastor Adeboye urged young believers to seek divine direction and remain where God places them, rather than chasing trends or personal preferences.

“Discover where God wants you to stay, and stay there,” he advised.

He also clarified that his message was not intended to suggest that RCCG is superior to other Christian denominations.

“I am not saying we are better than any other denomination,” the cleric said.

The Delta State Executive Council on Thursday approved series of extensive road construction and rehabilitation projects, aimed at enhancing infrastructure and stimulating economic growth throughout the state.

The council also approved the allocation of ₦6.7 billion as the state’s counterpart funding to access the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) grant, which is intended for educational advancement.

These decisions were publicly announced after a State Executive Council meeting led by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in Asaba.

The approvals are part of the ongoing efforts by the administration to improve road connectivity in both urban and rural areas, while also bolstering the education sector.

Mr. Charles Aniagwu, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, informed reporters that the road projects span the state’s three senatorial districts and encompass both new constructions and significant rehabilitations, focusing on economic viability, accessibility, and long-lasting quality.

Accompanied by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Festus Ahon, Aniagwu emphasized that the council’s approved investments in road infrastructure aim to accelerate economic progress and enhance residents’ quality of life.

He stated that the ₦6.7 billion dedicated to the Universal Basic Education counterpart funding will allow the state to secure matching grants for the construction, renovation, and equipping of public educational institutions.

Aniagwu highlighted that the dual emphasis on infrastructure and education aligns with Governor Oborevwori’s M.O.R.E. Agenda, which prioritizes developmental initiatives in infrastructure and human capital.

“Today’s Exco meeting involved discussions on various matters, ranging from road development to enhancements in our educational framework. We also had the opportunity to appoint new traditional rulers for several communities,” Aniagwu noted.

He listed the approved projects, including the reconstruction of compromised sections of the Uzere–Asaba-Ase Road, the Aboh–Akarai concrete road featuring a 100m bridge over the Okiri River in Ndokwa East, the Eku–Osubi Road, and the Okpanam–Ugbolu Road.

“A review has led to increased contract amounts for certain projects awarded during the previous administration. Among these are the Ejeme-Aniogor–Obidugbo–Ekuku-Agbor Road Phase 1 and the Ajuebor and Uwaezueka Streets in Boji-Boji Owa. We also initiated construction on the Amai–Aragba Road, which received a 40 percent mobilization fee, and the Idheze Internal Roads Phases 1 and 2.”

“Additional projects approved include the Ovrode–Aradhe Road Phase 1, the Amaka/Ogodogo/Ivu Access Road in Okpolo-Enhwe, Atuma-Iga Internal Roads, and the construction of Arho Road by Heroes of Faith in Ughelli. We also repurposed and re-awarded the Imohwe Street project in Ekiugbo to connect Oteri and Iwremaro Town Phase 1. Further approvals were given for the rehabilitation and asphalt overlay of Olu Palace Road/Ugbori/Ekurede-Itsekiri Road and the construction of Orugboh Roads in Warri South.”

In addition, Aniagwu mentioned, “The council also approved the provision and installation of workshop tools and equipment at Omadino Technical College and Model Technical College in Oghara-Efe; the erection of an administrative block, hostels, a dining hall, and workshops at the newly established Model Technical College in Akugbene; and the revision of the contract sum for the construction of the new Model Technical College in Irri.”

“Exco has also sanctioned the construction of a 12-terrace building at the Permanent Secretaries’ Quarters in Asaba and the concessioning of the Issele-Uku Garment Facility/Skill Acquisition Centre.”

“The extension of electricity supply and installation of six transformers in the Orugbo, Ode-Itsekiri, Ajigba, Inorin, Usele, and Ugbodede communities, all situated in the Warri South Local Government Area, has also been approved.”

“We further appointed several traditional rulers, including Obi Michael Ogochukwu Osemedua Isichei as the Obi of Ubulu-Okiti; HRM Obi Cletus Nkeakam Ochei as the Obi of Ukwu-Oba Kingdom; HRM Okorocha Emoghene Osuokpa I as the 39th Okpara-Uku of Orogun Kingdom; HRM Obi Ikechukwu Chukwuemeka Ugboma as the Obi of Issele-Azagba Kingdom; HRM Patrick Okpomor Agre as the Ovie of Igbide Kingdom; and HRM Michael Avwerotakpo Eyareya (Eyareya II) as the Orovworere of Effurun-Otor Kingdom.”

By Sunday Apah

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has congratulated Elder Godsday Orubebe, the former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, as he celebrates his 66th birthday on Friday, June 6, 2025.

In expressing his admiration, Governor Oborevwori referred to Orubebe as a distinguished statesman and a passionate advocate for the advancement of the Niger Delta region.

The governor’s remarks were shared in a statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon.

The governor commended Orubebe for his significant contributions to national development, particularly during his time as Minister, where he was instrumental in promoting essential infrastructure and peace-building efforts throughout the Niger Delta.

“On behalf of the government and the people of Delta State, I extend my warmest congratulations to Elder Godsday Peter Orubebe, CON, on the joyous occasion of his 66th birthday,” Governor Oborevwori stated.

“Elder Orubebe is a notable son of Delta, having shown steadfast dedication to the progress of both our state and the entire Niger Delta. His legacy of service and enduring patriotism are truly commendable.”

The governor also recognized Orubebe’s commitment to grassroots development, emphasizing that his impactful efforts have continued to benefit communities even after his tenure in office.

“Elder Orubebe has remained a significant voice in our political sphere. I join family, friends, and colleagues in honouring his lifelong commitment to public service, faith, and societal improvement.

“As he celebrates this significant milestone, we pray for his ongoing good health, divine protection, and even greater achievements in the future,” the governor concluded.

Delta State to Implement Technology in Combating Violent Crimes, Says Oborevwori

0

…Urges Council Leaders, Traditional Rulers to Take Action

*By Sunday Apah*

The Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Thursday declared the government’s commitment to utilizing modern technology as a means of addressing criminal activities throughout the state.

The Governor expressed his concerns regarding the rising insecurity in various regions and issued a firm directive to local government council chairmen, emphasizing that their active participation in monthly security council meetings is essential and non-negotiable.

During a high-level meeting with security stakeholders in Asaba, Governor Oborevwori voiced his frustration over reports indicating that some council chairmen have been neglecting their responsibilities in coordinating local security efforts.

He underscored the importance of the monthly security council meetings for evaluating threats, sharing intelligence, and coordinating law enforcement responses, warning that any chairman who does not take these meetings seriously could face disciplinary consequences, including suspension.

Governor Oborevwori highlighted the urgent need to address the recent surge in kidnappings, cult-related violence, and substance abuse, calling on all security stakeholders to enhance their efforts in ensuring safety and security throughout the state.

He noted that the introduction of advanced surveillance technologies and data-driven intelligence would improve the effectiveness of law enforcement agencies and help reduce criminal activities.

The Governor praised traditional rulers and other security stakeholders for their ongoing support and collaboration with the government in the fight against armed robbery, kidnapping, and other severe crimes.

“Your dedication to promoting peace and security in the state is commendable, but much work still lies ahead. Reports of insecurity, particularly kidnappings, remain concerning, and I encourage our youth to engage positively with security agencies and local vigilantes rather than resorting to inflammatory rhetoric on social media,” he stated.

“Security is a collective responsibility. As council chairmen, you were elected to lead and should have a good understanding of your communities. Members of the House of Assembly and commissioners from each local government must also contribute to fostering peace and security in their areas.”

“We are already collaborating with various security agencies, successfully coordinating operations against criminal hotspots, and dismantling kidnapping networks. The increasing insecurity in the state has been exacerbated by the influx of individuals from neighboring regions, particularly from across the Niger River.”

“Shortly, we will deploy technology to identify and confront the criminals jeopardizing the peace of our beloved state. I expect our local council chairmen, as the chief security officers of their jurisdictions, to hold regular security council meetings and keep me informed through the commissioner for local government, or directly.”

He assured that the ALGON Chairman and his executive team would be held accountable for any failure by council chairmen to conduct regular security meetings. He urged them to collaborate with traditional leaders in their local government areas.

“As Governor, I liaise with all traditional rulers in the state, and if I can manage this relationship, you can, too, with the traditional leaders in your areas. The crime rate is alarming; our youths are engaging in drug abuse and other social issues, so it’s crucial to pay attention to your surroundings. We will not tolerate any laxity from any chairmen. Once we hold one or two individuals accountable, it will prompt others to step up.”

“The conventional security forces are doing their utmost, and community vigilantes are there to support them, particularly given their familiarity with local communities. Therefore, council chairmen must ensure that adequate funding is available for them. Without proper support, they cannot assist conventional security forces effectively.”

“I expect a strong and productive relationship between the stakeholders, particularly traditional rulers and security agencies. Any local area whose traditional ruler fails to cooperate with our security agencies will not be tolerated,” he stressed.

“This meeting was convened to share ideas and suggestions for enduring solutions to the security challenges we face in the state, such as kidnappings and drug abuse.”

After the meeting, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, informed reporters that stakeholders had reached a consensus on implementing serious measures to combat the rising instances of kidnapping in certain areas.

“The various groups expressed their appreciation to Governor Oborevwori and the security agencies for their diligent efforts in ensuring the safety and peace of Delta State. It is agreed that criminals and troublemakers must stay away from our state,” he added.

HRM Maj Gen. Felix Mujakperuo (rtd), Orodje of Okpe Kingdom and Chairman of the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council, commended Governor Oborevwori for convening the security stakeholders’ meeting and clarified misconceptions that traditional rulers lease land to herders for financial gain. He stated, “This is not true; land ownership often resides either with communities or families, not with traditional rulers. Some malicious individuals in our communities misrepresent traditional leaders by claiming that they are complicit in financial dealings with herders.”

He expressed optimism that today’s discussions would significantly contribute to enhancing the security state in Delta. He pointed out that the absence of Federal Forest Guards in local governments has hindered the effectiveness of local hunters. However, he stated that vigilante groups within communities exist and need better funding.

Brig. Gen. Folu Shonibare, Commander of the 63 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Asaba, noted that stakeholders at the expanded security council meeting united to develop strategies to combat kidnapping, cultism, farmer/herder clashes, and drug abuse in the state.

He confirmed that security agencies are committed to ensuring Delta State is free of criminal elements, noting that significant outcomes have already arisen, such as the recent rescue of over 16 civilians who were nearly kidnapped.

Addressing recent protests in Abraka, the Brigade Commander clarified that, contrary to circulating rumors, no one was shot as a result of military intervention, asserting that his troops acted professionally during the situation.

“The protest in Abraka escalated into violence when hoodlums began to attack civilians, block shops, and forcefully recruit participants, causing significant disruptions; in response, the military intervened as local police were overwhelmed. There were no shootings recorded in that incident,” he clarified.

Hon Possible Ajede, Chairman of Ukwuani Local Government Council, speaking on behalf of the council chairmen, stated, “We have been instructed to return to our respective local governments and prioritize security issues. This is a marching order and aligns with our commitment from today’s meeting that all criminal elements must leave the state.”
