Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, has instructed the Delta State Signage and Advertisement Agency (DESSAA) to ensure strict adherence to all laws governing outdoor advertising within the state.
This directive, issued in accordance with existing statutes, empowers DESSAA to oversee and standardize outdoor advertising practices statewide.
According to a statement from the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Eze Emu, the following compliance measures have been enacted:
Operation Tag Your Boards: All billboard structures must now display the official logo or company name of the owner or licensed practitioner.
Practitioners are required to present their Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (ARCON) certificates at the DESSAA Director of Administration’s office.
A complete list of advertising sites, along with the corresponding DESSAA approvals, must be submitted for verification.
Outdoor advertising operators are expected to implement these measures fully within seven days of this notice.
The state government emphasized the urgency of these steps to professionalize the industry, moving it away from unregulated operations.
These regulations aim to enhance the visual landscape of the state’s major cities and towns by preventing billboard overcrowding, which often creates visual clutter and environmental concerns.
The statement cautioned that failure to comply within the given timeframe will be considered a serious violation, resulting in appropriate penalties.
