In a deliberate move to reinforce law enforcement operations, Delta State’s Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, undertook an official familiarization and assessment tour of the Ughelli Area Command on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.

The visit reinforced the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to enhancing security frameworks and promoting active community partnership throughout the state.

Upon arrival, Commissioner Adesola was formally received by the Ughelli Area Commander, ACP Olasunkanmi Musilu, accompanied by senior police officers, representatives from various security agencies, traditional rulers, community stakeholders, and local residents.

In his welcoming remarks, ACP Musilu commended the Commissioner’s visit, characterizing him as “approachable, diligent, and esteemed.”

He outlined the jurisdictional scope of the Ughelli Area Command, which encompasses the Ughelli North, Ughelli South, and Ethiope East Local Government Areas within the Delta Central Senatorial District—a region primarily inhabited by the Urhobo ethnic group.

The Area Commander enumerated the six divisional police stations under his supervision: ‘A’ Division Ughelli, ‘B’ Division Agbarha-Otor, Orogun Division, Ofuoma Division, Otu-Jeremi Division, and Isiokolo Division.

Musilu highlighted operational successes achieved in crime reduction since his tenure began, while also underscoring persistent logistical and operational constraints, such as insufficient patrol vehicles, manpower deficits, and inadequate equipment.

He further revealed that several isolated communities have formally requested the creation of additional police outposts to improve security coverage and deter unlawful activities in remote locations.

ACP Musilu praised the sustained cooperation of vigilante organizations, quasi-security bodies, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), and local leaders, emphasizing that their collaborative engagement has been pivotal in preserving stability across the command.

He reassured the Commissioner of the unwavering commitment of the command’s personnel to uphold justice, ensure human dignity, and maintain professional standards consistent with the Nigeria Police Force’s guiding principles.

Earlier, CP Adesola had visited the palace of the Ovie of Ughelli Kingdom, HRM Dr. Wilson Ojakovo Oharisi III, JP, to solicit royal endorsement for policing initiatives in the domain.

Addressing attendees at the Area Command, the Commissioner underscored the necessity of robust public collaboration in combating criminality.

He warned against obstructing investigations or protecting suspects, noting that such conduct subverts judicial integrity and encourages recidivism.

Adesola pointed out that community involvement often perpetuates crime, particularly through the acquisition of stolen properties and undue interference in law enforcement procedures.

He appealed to parents and guardians to cultivate ethics and discipline in their youth, drawing from personal upbringing to stress the role of accountability and integrity in nurturing responsible citizens.

“Development remains unattainable without peace,” the Commissioner asserted, adding that police effectiveness is inherently tied to citizen support.

CP Adesola pledged to intensify security measures to guarantee residents’ safety, while recognizing the groundwork laid by his predecessor in advancing policing standards in Delta State.

He reaffirmed the command’s focus on professionalism, equitable conduct, and the protection of human rights in all undertakings.

The gathering included high-ranking security representatives from the Department of State Services (DSS), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), community leaders, vigilante units, and local government chairmen of Ughelli South and Ethiope East, among other notable figures.
