Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed profound sadness following the death of the state’s former Deputy Governor, Chief Benjamin Elue, who passed away at the age of 85.
In a tribute, Governor Oborevwori honored the late leader as a dedicated patriot, an experienced administrator, and a steadfast party member whose efforts toward Delta State’s development and political stability will be long remembered.
Chief Elue held the position of Deputy Governor under former Governor James Ibori from 1999 to 2007.
Throughout his tenure, he was widely recognized for his humility, strong work ethic, and consistent loyalty to the government he served.
In a condolence statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, in Asaba, Governor Oborevwori acknowledged that Elue’s passing came as a painful surprise, while also expressing thankfulness for the former deputy governor’s lifetime of service to Delta State and Nigeria.
The Governor highlighted that Elue was not only an accomplished politician but also a respected educator who dedicated himself to guiding younger individuals.
Oborevwori emphasized that Elue’s thoughtful demeanor, insight, and focus on harmony played a key role in reinforcing democratic governance in the state, especially during the early stages of the Fourth Republic.
The Governor also reflected on Elue’s unwavering dedication to fostering unity and peace in Delta State, along with his significant role in advancing the state’s progress.
“Chief Benjamin Elue was a principled and honorable leader who served our state with deep commitment and faithfulness. His contributions to Delta and its people will never be forgotten,” Governor Oborevwori stated.
He added that the late elder statesman’s admirable life and notable achievements, particularly as Deputy Governor, won him broad admiration from all political backgrounds.
Governor Oborevwori conveyed his sincere sympathies to the Elue family, the Aniocha North community, the Delta North Senatorial District, and the entire state over this significant loss.
He prayed that God grants the departed eternal peace and provides strength and comfort to his family and all who mourn him.
