Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, has firmly rejected reports of his suspension from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akumazi Ward, Ika North East Local Government Area. He characterized the allegation as a politically motivated fabrication and “a joke taken too far.
During an appearance on ARISE News’ The Morning Show on Sunday, Aniagwu affirmed his unwavering loyalty to the APC. He clarified that no authorized party organ in Delta State had instituted any disciplinary proceedings against him and urged members and the public to disregard the unverified reports circulating online.
“The so-called suspension is completely baseless,” Aniagwu stated. “It originates from some of my brothers within the ward, and I believe their actions were intended as a jest. I remain a dedicated member of the APC.”
He highlighted procedural flaws in the alleged suspension notice, pointing out that no formal petition or complaint preceded it, contrary to the party’s constitutional guidelines. “A legitimate disciplinary process requires specific allegations, a proper committee, and a right to fair hearing. None of that occurred here,” he explained.
According to Aniagwu, the situation arose from disagreements during recent ward congress activities related to party primaries. He noted that certain caretaker committee members sought his endorsement to retain their positions outside the established consensus framework, a move he viewed as undemocratic.
“The ward leadership insisted on honoring existing zoning arrangements that have historically maintained peace at the grassroots level,” Aniagwu said. “When these individuals could not secure their return through consensus, they regrettably resorted to unconstitutional measures.”
He expressed appreciation for media outlets that exercised restraint in reporting the unsubstantiated claim and revealed that, despite suggestions from other ward leaders to sanction those involved, he advocated for restraint.
“They are our brothers. This is an internal matter that has been unnecessarily amplified,” Aniagwu concluded, reaffirming his commitment to the APC and its constitutional processes.
