In a decisive move underscoring his administration’s unwavering dedication to educational advancement and social welfare, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has formally approved the 2025 bursary awards for students of Delta State origin enrolled in public and private tertiary institutions nationwide.

The comprehensive approval further encompasses specialized scholarship awards for students with disabilities and the children of deceased civil servants, alongside targeted financial assistance for Delta State indigenes attending Nigerian Law Schools.

Dr. Godfrey Enita, Executive Secretary of the Delta State Bursary and Scholarship Board, unveiled the details of this intervention during a strategic engagement with the national leadership of the National Association of Delta State Students (NADESSTU) on Thursday, February 12, 2026.

Elucidating the rationale behind the governor’s directive, Dr. Enita emphasized that the initiative is designed to mitigate the financial pressures confronting students and their families, particularly within the context of prevailing economic headwinds.

The meeting was convened in direct response to concerns previously expressed by the student body regarding delays in the disbursement of the 2025 bursary.

Dr. Enita provided unequivocal assurance that the state government remains steadfast in honoring its commitments, confirming that the board has already initiated the procedural mechanisms for the payment of the approved bursaries and scholarships.

He further indicated that the distinct financial aid package for Law School students, earlier authorized by Governor Oborevwori, is concurrently being processed.

Detailing the scope of the initiative, Dr. Enita disclosed that a total of 33,064 students are slated to benefit from the 2025 bursary awards.

This is augmented by scholarship awards for 545 children of deceased civil servants and 51 students with disabilities, while 533 Law School students will receive the specialized financial assistance.

Reiterating the foundational philosophy of the Oborevwori administration, Dr. Enita affirmed that education is regarded as an indispensable pillar for sustainable development and the cultivation of human capital within the state.

In their response, the NADESSTU delegation, led by National President Comrade Oweiotu-Ebi Joseph and Senate President Comrade Idiseru Alex, hailed the development as both timely and transformative.

They extended profound gratitude to the governor for his sustained investment in the student community, acknowledging that the approval will significantly alleviate the economic burdens burdening numerous scholars and their households.

The student leaders further vowed their unwavering loyalty and continued cooperation with the Delta State Government, applauding Governor Oborevwori for his proactive governance and resolute commitment to the welfare of all Deltans.
