Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Senator Peter Nwaoboshi and prominent elder statesman and industrialist, Chief Emmanuel Nuel Ojei.
He described their deaths as a significant loss that leaves a void in Delta State, particularly Oshimili North, and Aniocha North Local Government Areas.
The governor made these remarks during separate condolence visits to the families of the late leaders on Monday, where he paid tribute to their legacies, highlighting their courage, principled leadership, and selfless dedication—qualities that will be greatly missed.
During his visit to the family of the late Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, also known as “The Oracle,” Governor Oborevwori shared his shock at the sudden loss, noting they had spoken only days before the senator passed away.
“I was deeply saddened because I spoke to him just a few days ago. We discussed several developmental issues, and I never expected him to leave so soon,” the governor said.
He remembered Senator Nwaoboshi as a fearless and straightforward leader who stood firmly on his beliefs. “If he supported you, he did so wholeheartedly; if not, he was frank about it. Leaders like him are rare,” Oborevwori added.
Recounting their long-standing relationship that began in 2006 during the advocacy for equity and power rotation in Delta State, particularly the campaign for a governor from Delta North, the governor praised the senator’s unwavering commitment.
“As a party chairman, he was bold and a strong advocate for fairness. Once he was committed to a cause, nothing could deter him,” he stated.
Governor Oborevwori also found solace in the fact that key issues close to the late senator’s heart, including the Guinea House matter, had been resolved before his passing.
“It’s not the length of life but the impact one leaves behind. Senator Nwaoboshi made significant contributions, uplifted many, and served our state with great passion. His death leaves a large gap in Delta North,” he emphasized.
He extended heartfelt condolences to Senator Nwaoboshi’s widow, Dr. Mrs. Judith Nwaoboshi, the entire Nwaoboshi family, the political community, Delta North residents, and the wider Anioma nation, assuring them of the state government’s continued support.
On behalf of the family, Elder Emmanuel Nwaoboshi thanked Governor Oborevwori for his visit, describing it as a source of comfort, and assured him of their prayers and ongoing support.
Similarly, during a condolence visit to Issele-Uku in Aniocha North Local Government Area, Governor Oborevwori mourned the loss of Chief Emmanuel Nuel Ojei, calling him one of the finest leaders ever produced in the area.
He expressed sympathy to the widow, Mrs. Vivian Ojei, their children, and the entire Ojei family, emphasizing the high regard in which he held Aniocha North, owing to its history of producing outstanding leaders.
“Every time I visited this home, I made it a point to see him. He was a patient, wise, and considerate man who always provided guidance and encouragement,” Oborevwori recalled.
He noted that Chief Ojei maintained close contact and offered advice even after he became governor, describing him as a well-respected figure both locally and internationally who lived a meaningful, impactful life.
“When I was campaigning, I sought his counsel. His patience, intelligence, and continuous support were invaluable. His passing is a tremendous loss for us all,” the governor observed.
Governor Oborevwori assured the Ojei family of the state government’s support and prayed for peace and unity within Aniocha North as the community prepares to lay their dear elder statesman to rest.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Mr. Nicholas Ojei, the governor’s Special Adviser on Special Duties and son of the deceased, expressed gratitude for the governor’s visit, calling it deeply comforting.
“Daddy held you in high regard; you were very special to him,” he said, adding that his father was a man of exceptional generosity who quietly helped many without seeking applause.
He committed that the family would honor their father’s legacy by continuing to serve diligently and appealed for prayers and support in the days leading to the funeral.
“This loss was unexpected, but we trust that he fulfilled his purpose on earth. May his soul rest in perfect peace,” he concluded.
