Delta Model Technical College in Asaba has unveiled a cutting-edge E-Learning Centre, thanks to a donation from the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) in partnership with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), a project led by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

The official inauguration took place on Thursday during a national virtual event that linked ten newly established Digital Learning Centres across Nigeria, including locations in Abia, Kano, Katsina, Lagos, Nasarawa, Ondo, Yobe, Zamfara, and Edo states.

During the inauguration, Senator Oluremi Tinubu praised NITDA for collaborating with RHI to provide young Nigerians with vital digital skills for their futures. “Soon, every corner of our nation will embrace digitalization. Today, I officially inaugurate these ten ICT centres across Nigeria,” she announced.

The new centre in Asaba is equipped with 15 desktop computers, a smart board, and comprehensive internet access, all aimed at promoting learning and enhancing digital literacy among students.

At the event in Asaba, represented by Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, the wife of the Delta State Governor and the state’s RHI Coordinator, Dr. Josephine Emu described the centre as a significant advancement in empowering youth with essential knowledge and abilities for success in an evolving environment.

“In today’s society, digital skills are critical. This e-learning centre represents a beacon of opportunity—an entry point to success where our students can aspire for greater achievements and prepare for a digital-driven future,” she stated.

Dr. Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, the Director-General of NITDA, emphasized that this initiative supports President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on human capital development and digital transformation.

“Under President Tinubu’s leadership, we have set up 236 ICT centres across the country, with an aim to reach 592 by 2027. These hubs are intended to empower citizens, stimulate innovation, and foster a sustainable digital economy,” he said.

Hon. Smart Ufoh, the Delta State Commissioner for Technical Education, commended the initiative as a testament to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to encouraging innovation, creativity, and digital inclusion.

“This project reflects the government’s dedication to advancing technical education and enhancing digital literacy that is essential for success in today’s fast-paced world,” he remarked, also suggesting the need for an additional computer lab to accommodate more students.

Mrs. Violet Owuijaren, the Principal of Model Technical College, Asaba, expressed her appreciation to the First Lady, NITDA, and RHI, calling the facility a “long-lasting investment in the futures of Delta’s students.” “This centre will be a hub for innovation where education meets technology. We are truly grateful for this initiative,” she added.

A student representative, Chukwu Dumebi, expressed his gratitude to the First Lady and NITDA for the contribution, stating that the digital resources would significantly enrich their learning experiences.

The inauguration ceremony concluded with a vibrant display from the students, featuring lively cultural dances and a spoken-word performance that highlighted education as the pathway to a brighter, technology-oriented future.
