In a vibrant show of support, women from Delta State, organized under the Unique Ladies for Sheriff initiative, gathered on Tuesday to endorse Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the only candidates for the upcoming 2027 elections.
They emphatically declared, “There is no vacancy” at Government House in Asaba or Aso Rock.
The endorsement came during an inspiring event at the Cenotaph in Asaba, attended by women representatives from all 25 local councils in Delta State. Both leaders are poised to seek reelection for a second term, and this grassroots coalition of women is committed to ensuring their unopposed return.
Dame Nkem Patience Okwuofu, National Coordinator for Unique Ladies for Sheriff, emphasized the importance of connecting with diverse groups, such as young girls, farmers, artisans, and businesswomen, who are vital to the state’s identity. “We must continue to promote the governor’s achievements and strengthen our grassroots efforts,” she said in her keynote address, titled “Touching the Grassroots.”
Okwuofu praised Governor Oborevwori and First Lady Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori for their dedication to inclusive governance and grassroots progress. She encouraged attendees to engage with government initiatives, educate fellow voters, and enhance community development.
Mrs. Ewoma Erijo, representing the Governor’s wife, highlighted the unity among the women and assured support from the First Lady’s office. Senior Policy Adviser to the Governor, Hon. Funkekeme Solomon, commended the women’s active political involvement, urging them to be pillars of virtue in their communities.
Delta State’s Finance Commissioner, Chief Fidelis Tilije, reiterated the women’s backing for the governor, emphasizing economic stability and progress under his leadership. He asserted that Delta State remains one of Nigeria’s wealthiest, with timely salary payments and effective budget implementation.
In a message from the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Arthur Akpowowo, noted that women’s participation is crucial for electoral success. “Once the women are with you, success is guaranteed,” he stated, urging a grassroots campaign to secure victory in 2027.
A resounding motion of confidence was introduced by Princess Pat, affirming the group’s support for Tinubu and Oborevwori. “By virtue of their achievements, we, the Unique Ladies for Sheriff, express our unwavering confidence in them. Come 2027, both leaders will be reelected without opposition,” she announced. This sentiment was supported by Irene Imilar, reinforcing the trust in both leaders’ ability to guide the state and nation towards continued success.
In addition, the forum received a financial contribution aimed at bolstering grassroots initiatives for rural women. Committed to sustained mobilization efforts, the attendees pledged to vigorously campaign for the reelection of their endorsed leaders as the 2027 polls approach.
