The Police in Delta State have arrested a notorious drug dealer, Mr. Onos Afokoghene, in Jeddo town, Okpe Local Government Area, along with another suspect found in possession of 400 live cartridges in Asaba, the state capital.

In a press release issued on Sunday, Police Public Relations Officer for the Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, stated that the drug dealer was arrested on October 10, 2025, at approximately 20:45 hours, following credible intelligence.

The statement read: “Operatives of the Orerokpe Division arrested Mr. Onos Afokoghene, a 37-year-old notorious drug baron known for distributing large quantities of hard drugs within Warri and surrounding communities.

“Acting promptly on a tip-off, the Divisional Police Officer of Orerokpe Division, CSP Paul Oboware, mobilized and led his patrol teams to a known flashpoint in the Jeddo community, where the suspect and other alleged hoodlums were reportedly engaged in the sale and consumption of illicit substances.

“Sensing the approach of the police, the suspects attempted to flee, but the team swiftly closed in and apprehended Onos Afokoghene after a brief pursuit.

“A thorough search of the scene resulted in the startling discovery of illicit substances and paraphernalia used in large-scale drug sales.

“Recovered items include: 3 kg of Canadian Loud, 10 kg of Indian Hemp, 24 liters of soaked weed suspected to be Indian Hemp in dry gin (locally known as ‘monkey tail’), several sachets of Tramadol of various milligrams, and two POS machines believed to be used for drug transactions.

“The suspect is currently in custody while investigations continue to uncover his network of distributors and buyers,” the statement added.

In a separate operation demonstrating vigilance and tactical precision, operatives of the ‘C’ Division in Asaba, led by CSP Ogbe Emmanuel, intercepted a significant movement of ammunition destined for Edo State.

“On October 16, 2025, at around 12:00 hours, during routine surveillance and stop-and-search operations at the Head Bridge in Asaba, the operatives flagged down a Toyota Hiace Hummer bus with registration number NGK 16 XB, driven by one Ozoemenam Sylvanus.

“The driver appeared uneasy during questioning, raising the officers’ suspicions. They proceeded to conduct a thorough search of the vehicle.

“Their instincts proved correct; four hundred (400) live cartridges were discovered, carefully concealed within the bus.

“The suspect initially claimed that the cargo contained padlocks but was left speechless when the parcel was opened, revealing its true contents. He was immediately arrested, and both he and the recovered exhibits were taken into custody.

“Investigations to unravel the source and criminal network behind the illegal arms movement are ongoing,” the statement concluded.
