Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has urged the leadership and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) throughout the South-South region to fully engage in the ongoing digital membership registration initiative, emphasizing its importance in modernizing the party’s framework for improved accountability and inclusiveness.

The Governor made this appeal on Thursday during the APC E-Registration Hands-On Device/Application Train-the-Trainer Workshop for the South-South zone, held at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba.

In his address, Governor Oborevwori revealed that Delta State had already launched the digital membership registration process in compliance with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive, with more than 280,000 members successfully registered to date.

He elaborated that this current phase aims to validate existing records by linking members’ information with their National Identification Numbers (NIN) while also expanding the register to include new members.

“This two-day training is crucial. It offers you the chance to enhance your understanding of the process so that when you return to your respective states, you can train others effectively,” said Oborevwori.

“In Delta, we have advanced from initial registration to validation. We are also welcoming new members and political groups merging with the APC to ensure comprehensive documentation,” he added.

The Governor expressed his belief in the strength and unity of the APC in the South-South, asserting that “no other political force in the region can match the ruling party.”

He warmly welcomed participants from Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States, encouraging them to concentrate on the training and confidently implement the process in their respective regions.

In a goodwill address, Deputy National Chairman (South) of the APC, Chief Emma Eneukwu, praised Governor Oborevwori for his “dynamic, purposeful, and commitment-driven leadership,” commending the visible infrastructure improvements throughout Delta State.

He conveyed the party’s National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda’s, gratitude, noting that Oborevwori’s achievements are “exemplary and indicative of visionary leadership.”

Chief Eneukwu referred to the e-registration initiative as a groundbreaking innovation in Nigeria’s political landscape, aligning with international standards of transparency and organizational integrity.

“What we are launching today marks a new era in political organization, ensuring that every member is digitally recorded, verifiable, and accountable,” he stated.

Also addressing the attendees, Deputy National Organising Secretary, Hon. Nze Chidi Duru, underscored the initiative as a significant reform in party administration, promoting accountability and enhancing internal democracy.

He mentioned that the APC is making history as the first major political party in Nigeria to implement a comprehensive digital membership system.

Earlier, Engr. Omeni Sobotie, the Delta State APC Chairman, commended Governor Oborevwori for his leadership, which has positioned Delta as a benchmark for governance and development.

He referred to the Governor as “a rare asset to the South-South and the entire nation,” asserting that with his leadership, “the APC is invincible, and any party contesting against it will face insurmountable challenges.”

The event saw participation from leading APC figures across the South-South geopolitical zone, including state chairpersons, zonal coordinators, and party stakeholders, all of whom committed to duplicating the training and ensuring the effective rollout of the e-registration process in their areas.
