Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, made a solemn journey to Kaduna on Friday to attend the funeral service for Mr. Danladi Ambi, the beloved foster father of Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme.
This poignant event, held at the ECWA Church in Jagindi Tasha, Sanga Local Government Area, brought together dignitaries from all corners of the nation to honor a remarkable life.
Mr. Ambi, who passed away at the age of 82 following a brief illness, was more than just a retired soldier; he was a pillar of strength in the community, a dedicated public servant, a passionate farmer, and a devout Christian.
The ceremony drew an impressive gathering, including top government officials and notable figures from Delta State.
In attendance were influential personalities such as Hon. Nnamdi Ezechi, the Member for Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal Constituency; Hon. Charles Emetulu; Hon. Emeka Osamuta; Comrade Reuben Izeze; Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza; Hon. Funkekeme Solomon; Dr. Barry Gbe; and Chief Jeffrey Azagba.
The event also saw the presence of Hajia Fatima Abass Tajudeen, the wife of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, along with Hon. Daniel Amos, the son-in-law of the deceased, and other notable politicians from various federal constituencies.
Sir Monday Onyeme paid a moving tribute to his late foster father, expressing profound gratitude to Governor Oborevwori for traveling to honor Mr. Ambi’s legacy.
He fondly recalled how Mr. Ambi took him in as a young boy of ten, nurturing him as his own son. “Baba ensured I completed my education and supported my career path, including my employment with NEPA and NALDA. Everything I am today revolves around him,” he said, his voice thick with emotion.
Describing Mr. Ambi as a strict but nurturing influence in his life, Onyeme drew attention to the late soldier’s unwavering commitment to the success of others and his invaluable advice that continued even in retirement. “We will miss him greatly, but we find comfort in living the kind of life he wanted us to lead,” he added.
Rev. Gambo Shagaya delivered the sermon, “Legacy Beyond the Grave,” based on Hebrews 11:4. He encouraged attendees to live lives filled with purpose, leaving a legacy that transcends wealth or education. “Every life leaves a legacy, and the question is, what kind are you leaving?” he asked.
He urged the congregation to foster values of faith and service, emphasizing the importance of making a positive impact on future generations.
The funeral was a tapestry of poignant tributes, prayers, and hymns, as family members, friends, and dignitaries reflected on the disciplined life of Mr. Ambi—a man whose selfless contributions and dedication to service continue to resonate in the hearts of many.
