Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has been honored with the distinguished South-South Governor of the Year Award during the inaugural edition of the Progressive Digital Media Summit and Awards.
The ceremony took place on Saturday at the State House Banquet Hall within the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
This accolade celebrates outstanding leadership, innovative governance, and digital inclusion initiatives across Nigeria’s South-South region. Governor Oborevwori was recognized for his remarkable efforts in transforming Delta State through infrastructural development, human capital investment, and promoting transparency in governance since he took office on May 29, 2023.
Organizers of the summit praised the governor for his unwavering dedication to advancing Delta State via the strategic implementation of his M.O.R.E. Agenda—an acronym emphasizing Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security.
According to the organizers, Governor Oborevwori distinguished himself from his peers through impactful projects, people-centered policies, and a leadership style rooted in responsiveness and inclusivity.
During the event, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu delivered a compelling message: “Verify before you amplify.” This call to action underscores the importance of responsible journalism and cautious social media use, especially amidst the rising tide of fake news, misinformation, disinformation, and cyberbullying.
Mr. Dada Olusegun, the President’s Special Assistant on Social Media, remarked that the summit served as a significant morale booster for progressives nationwide, reinforcing the power of unity and strategic communication.
The enthusiastic reception of Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” message exemplified the profound impact of purposeful messaging in shaping public discourse.
Representing Governor Oborevwori, Hon. Lovette Idisi, a former Member of the House of Representatives and the Governor’s FCT Abuja Liaison, expressed gratitude to the organizers for the honor. He described the award as a testament to the governor’s relentless pursuit of good governance and inclusive development in Delta State.
“This recognition affirms Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s unwavering dedication to service, his commitment to improving lives, and his continuous investment in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and youth empowerment,” Idisi stated.
He further emphasized that the administration remains committed to realizing the promises encapsulated in the M.O.R.E. Agenda, which continues to resonate with Deltans across all the state’s senatorial districts.
The summit gathered influential stakeholders from governance, technology, journalism, and civil society from across Nigeria. The program featured keynote speeches and panel discussions focusing on digital innovation, media accountability, and citizen engagement.
Oborevwori’s recognition follows a series of commendations from the media, professional bodies, and civil society organizations, reflecting increasing public approval of his administration’s efforts to deliver democratic dividends and foster sustainable development in Delta State.
