A wave of excitement and admiration swept through Warri, Effurun, and Udu as Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, conducted a site visit to assess key infrastructural projects, including the Udu Harbour Market, the Flyover at Enerhen Junction, and storm drainage systems.
The governor’s tour, part of his commitment to delivering quality and timely infrastructure under the MORE Agenda, was greeted with cheers from local residents, traders, and supporters.
Market women and community members gathered in large numbers to welcome and commend Oborevwori, whose administration is rapidly gaining a reputation for visible, people-focused development across the state.
Progress at the storm drainage system—aimed at flood prevention—and ongoing construction work on the flyover and the modernized market drew positive remarks from the governor.
He reiterated his government’s dedication to implementing projects that boost commerce, enhance connectivity, and improve the overall living standards of Deltans.
During the inspection, Oborevwori highlighted the significance of the Udu Harbour Market, which features 604 lock-up shops, 120 open stalls, a modern abattoir, and additional facilities.
He described the market as one of the largest in Delta State, emphasizing its potential to stimulate local economic activity and generate new revenue streams for residents.
“This market is a vital economic development. Once completed, it will bring lasting benefits to our people and invigorate local trade,” he stated.
The governor also pointed out that the ongoing projects—such as roads like Opete, Orhuwhorun, and Aladja/Ogbe-Ijoh—demonstrate his administration’s commitment to comprehensive regional development.
Addressing concerns about marginalization, he assured residents that infrastructural investments are spread evenly across all senatorial districts and local government areas. “I am an Urhobo man, but my focus is on serving all Deltans,” he affirmed.
He further assured that all projects are fully financed, with no delays in contractor payments—a situation he contrasted with other parts of Nigeria. “In Delta, contractors are paid promptly; there are no outstanding dues. I urge all contractors to maintain high standards and meet deadlines,” he added.
The visit was met with enthusiastic applause from the people, who expressed confidence in the government’s developmental efforts.
Oborevwori pledged that additional projects would be launched across the state under his MORE Agenda.
At the Enerhen Junction Flyover site, the governor explained that the new infrastructure was designed to ease traffic congestion and improve access to key areas.
He acknowledged past delays and reassured residents that the flyover construction would soon provide a significant relief.
“It’s inspiring to see the community’s excitement. Their support affirms that we’re on the right track,” he remarked.
The governor commended Julius Berger, the contractor responsible for the flyover, for maintaining high construction standards. “The ramps and fill works are complete, and final asphalting will begin shortly,” he noted.
Highlighting the impact of his administration’s development initiatives, Oborevwori emphasized that the projects are driven by a people-centered approach aimed at improving the quality of life for all Deltans.
During a guided tour of the projects with Julius Berger’s Project Manager, Thamos Haut Haug, he reiterated his government’s commitment to urban renewal and erosion control, specifically inspecting Phase III of the Airport Road and flood control projects in Ugborikoko and Ugboroke.
“We will continue to do more for our people. This is just the beginning,” the governor declared, reaffirming his dedication to transforming Delta into a model of sustainable development.
