The Governor of Delta State, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, has been awarded the title of “Best South-South Pilgrimage Governor of the Year 2024” for his dedication to the spiritual welfare of Christians across various denominations.
During the award presentation at the Government House in Asaba, Apostle Silvanus Okorote, Chairman of the Delta State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, highlighted that Delta State was the sole state in the South-South region to sponsor 272 Christians on a pilgrimage to Israel and Jordan in 2024.
He emphasized Delta’s support for Israel in light of ongoing conflicts in the region, noting that the spiritual connection between Israel, Jordan, and Delta State was strengthened during this year’s pilgrimage.
Apostle Okorote praised Governor Oborevwori for maintaining the daily worship services at the Government House Chapel, where senior government officials gather every morning from Monday to Friday to worship before handling official responsibilities. He assured the governor that Delta would continue to benefit from divine protection and blessings.
The Board recognized Governor Oborevwori’s dedication to the spiritual revival of Christians in the state, particularly highlighting his unique position as the only governor in the South-South geopolitical zone to facilitate a pilgrimage for 272 individuals to the Holy Land in 2024.
In his remarks upon accepting the award, Governor Oborevwori reiterated that Delta is a state committed to prayer. He expressed his intention to collaborate with faith-based organizations and invest in the spiritual growth of its residents, affirming that divine guidance plays a vital role in the governance of the state.
