On Tuesday, intense fighting erupted in parts of Kaduna and Niger states, resulting in casualties among both security personnel and armed bandits.

The violence involved coordinated attacks on military bases in several locations.

The assaults targeted military installations in Kwanar Dutse Mairiga and Boka in Niger State, as well as Aungwan Turai in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The attackers launched a simultaneous, three-pronged offensive against these forward operating bases.

In response, combined forces from the ground and air units conducted multiple counterattacks, successfully neutralizing a significant number of bandits.

Nevertheless, the Nigerian Army confirmed that some of its soldiers lost their lives during the engagements.

In an official statement shared on its X (formerly Twitter) account on Wednesday, the Nigerian Army reported that four soldiers were wounded by gunfire and are currently undergoing treatment. The statement read:

“On June 24, 2025, military bases in Kwanar Dutse Mairiga and Boka in Niger State, as well as Aungwan Turai in Kaduna State, were targeted in a coordinated three-pronged attack by bandits.

In response, land and air forces launched multiple counterattacks, resulting in the death of numerous bandits.

Regrettably, some brave soldiers sacrificed their lives during these prolonged battles, while four injured troops are receiving medical care. Further updates will be provided later.”
