The Delta State Government has pledged to enhance development in both rural and urban infrastructure, healthcare, and education over the next two years, continuing the advancements made since Governor Sheriff Oborevwori took office.
This was made known by the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, during an interview with ADBN TV on June 24.
Reflecting on the administration’s midterm assessment, Aniagwu highlighted that the two-year anniversary celebrated on May 29 not only served as a moment for evaluation but also marked the beginning of a more proactive phase in project implementation.
“We are now fully engaged in the next two years, with several projects already underway.
“One such initiative is the rural road construction that will connect our communities, specifically the Aboh-Akarai Road in Ndokwa East. The goal is to enhance connectivity and create more economic opportunities for our rural populations,” he stated.
Also, Aniagwu emphasized the government’s substantial investments in the healthcare sector. He revealed that the state has procured a significant amount of medical equipment aimed at upgrading its tertiary medical facilities.
“As part of our healthcare reforms, we have authorized the installation of state-of-the-art medical devices, including MRI machines and CT scanners, across all three senatorial districts. These improvements are designed to enhance the quality of healthcare services throughout the state.
“We have also made significant strides in healthcare delivery, with over 150 primary healthcare centers revitalized, alongside the rehabilitation and equipping of key secondary and tertiary institutions,” he added.
Regarding education reform, he announced a significant policy change affecting lecturers at the state’s tertiary institutions.
“The government has approved that associate professors can now retire at the age of 70, aligning with federal standards and acknowledging the essential contributions of senior faculty members in advancing knowledge,” he mentioned.
Aniagwu noted that there are also ongoing reviews within the university system, focusing on improving graduation criteria and policies that will enhance the well-being of academic personnel.
“We are reassessing the entire university landscape, particularly concerning staff recruitment and promotion criteria. These reforms aim to ensure that Delta remains competitive in the higher education sector,” he explained.
Despite the various challenges facing sectors across the nation, he assured that the Oborevwori administration is steadfast in fulfilling its commitments.
“Healthcare professionals, educators, and the general populace can expect to see more vigorous project execution and policy implementations in the near future. The governor is resolute in advancing development as we approach the 2026 election cycle,” he added.
Aniagwu concluded by reaffirming the government’s dedication to inclusive governance and rapid progress in the coming years, emphasizing that Governor Oborevwori is focused on establishing a lasting legacy of effective governance and meaningful service delivery.
