The Federal Government has lauded Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his proactive measures and decisive actions in advancing essential infrastructure projects throughout the state.
During a recent inspection of the access road to the Second Niger Bridge, the Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, praised Governor Oborevwori for his efforts in the successful development of key infrastructure, including the access road to the bridge.
While addressing reporters in Asaba, Umahi, a former Governor of Ebonyi State, recognized Oborevwori for officially designating the right-of-way for the access road extending to Issele-Azagba and for personally managing the revocation and compensation processes for affected properties.
“I want to express my high commendation for the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, for designating the right-of-way for the access road to the Second Niger Bridge as well as for revoking necessary properties and personally handling compensation payments,” Umahi stated.
The Minister encouraged other governors across the nation to adopt a similar collaborative approach, noting that support at the state level can accelerate federal projects and deliver swift benefits to local areas.
“I also want to acknowledge the cooperation between the Delta State Government and the Federal Government regarding ongoing projects. The Delta State Government’s proactive stance in assuming responsibility for compensating affected citizens has significantly expedited progress,” he added. “I am confident that this partnership will yield fruitful results, and I assure the state government that the Federal Ministry of Works will fulfill its obligations.”
Umahi also highlighted the construction of three flyovers and road expansion projects in Effurun, commending them for their aesthetic design and quality. “I admire the curves of these structures and plan to adopt that design in future projects,” he remarked, applauding the innovative aspects of the developments.
Describing Oborevwori as a visionary leader, Umahi stated, “He possesses a generous spirit and a progressive mindset. It is no surprise that he is part of our initiative. I commend him highly.”
Earlier, during his visit to the Warri-Benin-Asaba Road, Umahi raised concerns about the slow progress of work on the Effurun-Sapele section and urged contractors to hasten their efforts to meet deadlines.
“Timeliness is critical, and I expect all contractors to work diligently towards this objective,” he asserted.
On behalf of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, reiterated the state’s commitment to a cooperative partnership with the Federal Government.
He expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for the development of the 17.6km access road from the Second Niger Bridge into Delta State, as well as for plans to rehabilitate the four-lane, 5km road from Summit Junction to the bridgehead.
Emu emphasized the substantial economic impact these projects will have upon completion and thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Works for their dedication to advancing these initiatives.
