HONOURABLE Reuben Izeze, the Delta State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), has been honored with the esteemed Kwame Nkrumah Grow Africa Prize for Excellence, acknowledging his exceptional contributions to infrastructure development and public service in Nigeria.
The award was given to him during the 2025 Grow Africa Leadership Summit in Accra, Ghana, an event dedicated to recognizing individuals who have significantly advanced socio-economic development throughout Africa through exceptional innovation and leadership.
Izeze was selected as this year’s laureate after a thorough nomination and evaluation process that included leaders from various sectors across the African continent.
At a ceremony in his Asaba office, Comrade Uzim Temple, President of the Grow Africa Youth Initiative, presented the award to Izeze, commending him for his transformative efforts in Delta State. He emphasized notable infrastructure projects overseen by Izeze, efficient governance, and his steadfast dedication to sustainable development as key reasons for the recognition.
Specific mention was made of Izeze’s initiatives to enhance road networks, improve project management, and promote youth employment through public works programs.
“We celebrate your relentless commitment to grassroots development and support for young people, alongside your exceptional administrative skills and selfless leadership approach. Your dedication to educational advancement through bursaries is commendable.
“You are a collaborator who values inclusion, regardless of tribe, religion, or gender, and you uphold a strict stance against corruption, nepotism, and favoritism. Your exemplary lifestyle reflects African moral values that are truly inspiring for the youth.”
In his acceptance speech, Commissioner Izeze dedicated this recognition to the people of Delta State and the leadership of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
“This award represents more than my personal achievements; it symbolizes what effective governance and a shared vision can accomplish. I express my gratitude to the Grow Africa Youth Initiative and the selection committee for this honor, and I remain devoted to creating a brighter future for our people,” he stated.
The Kwame Nkrumah Grow Africa Prize for Excellence, named after the renowned Pan-Africanist and first president of Ghana, is one of Africa’s most prestigious awards for leadership in public service and development.
Previous recipients include former heads of state, prominent technocrats, and visionary leaders from across Africa who have made significant contributions to the continent’s pursuit of home-grown solutions and exemplary leadership.
Commissioner Izeze’s accolade is viewed as a remarkable achievement for Delta State and serves as an inspiring example for emerging leaders in Nigeria and beyond.
