Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has commended the Rector of Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara, Prof. Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri, for his exceptional contributions to both infrastructural and academic growth.
The commendation came during the institution’s second combined convocation ceremony on Saturday, May 31, 2025, which also included the unveiling of several significant projects.
Speaking on behalf of the governor, Honourable Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari, acknowledged the Rector’s wise management of internally generated revenue (IGR) in funding major projects. He remarked that Prof. Ufuophu-Biri’s administration has made a noticeable difference, especially in enhancing the welfare of students, staff, and the wider community in Oghara.
Governor Oborevwori underscored the Polytechnic’s effective fundraising and expenditure practices, noting that the institution’s achievements are in line with his administration’s commitment to advancing education through the MORE Agenda.
He reaffirmed the state government’s ongoing support to maintain the progress made.
A key highlight of the ceremony was the commissioning of several landmark projects, including a modern central administrative block named the “Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori White House,” an advanced auditorium, and a pure water production facility, all funded through IGR.
Furthermore, the governor laid the cornerstone for the upcoming School of Applied Sciences complex and inaugurated a fuel-less generator developed by the Polytechnic’s engineering department.
He described the generator as a significant technological advancement and a promising development for Nigeria’s technology sector.
In his address, a visibly delighted Prof. Ufuophu-Biri expressed heartfelt gratitude to Governor Oborevwori for allowing the institution the autonomy to plan and implement its projects.
He also acknowledged the leadership and support of Chief Andrew Orugbo, Chairman of the Governing Council, throughout this endeavor.
The Rector congratulated the graduating students, calling the convocation a momentous occasion that signifies their entry into the professional world. He encouraged them to embody the institution’s values and serve as exemplary ambassadors for both the Polytechnic and Delta State.
Prof. Ufuophu-Biri attributed the significant progress made by the Polytechnic over the last three years to teamwork and commitment, crediting the joint efforts of management and staff for establishing the institution as a leading example among Nigerian polytechnics.
Other academic leaders, including Deputy Rector Dr. Samuel Ogbogu, Dean of Students Dr. Enudi Samuel, Head of the Department of Social Sciences Dr. Idama Supreme, Bursar Mr. Sunday Omokaro, Registrar Mr. Efedi Chukwuemeke, and Polytechnic Librarian Prof. (Mrs.) Blessing Akporhonor, also praised the Rector for his steadfast dedication to excellence and innovation.
The convocation ceremony also featured the presentation of awards to distinguished personalities which include Olorogun John Oguma, Engr. Mike Orugbo and monarchs.
Attendees included Hon. Festus Utuama, Member DTHA, Mr. Fred Oborevwori Jr., the Governor’s son, members of the State Executive Council, commissioners, industry leaders, past and present rectors and vice chancellors from various institutions, staff, students, and members of the Oghara community.
