Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, has detailed the significant accomplishments of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration in the nearly two years since taking office.

During a press conference in Asaba on Thursday, Aniagwu, accompanied by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, stated that the administration has made “bold and remarkable footprints” throughout the state, particularly in rural infrastructure and public service delivery.

“In close to two years, we can observe significant achievements by Governor Oborevwori and his team. We have constructed roads in various communities, significantly reducing travel time from Asaba to Ughelli to just one hour and forty-five minutes,” Aniagwu noted.

He added that development initiatives have reached many previously underserved coastal areas. “In Ode-Itsekiri, work on the Trans-Warri bridges and access roads to creek communities is advancing well.

“We have also resumed construction on the Ayakoromo Bridge in Burutu Local Government Area, which will facilitate connections between several coastal communities and the upland,” he further explained.

In preparation for the administration’s second anniversary, Aniagwu announced numerous projects slated for inauguration, although the volume of completed projects may prevent the Governor from personally commissioning all of them.

“Key projects include the Beneku Bridge, Ishiagu-Ewulu Road and Bridge, Upper and Lower Erejuwa Roads in Warri, erosion control in Okpanam, Olomoro-Igbide Road, the Otolokpo to Boji-Boji Owa Road, Akumazi-Owere-Olubor Road, and Obi-Ibabu Road, among others.

“We have also installed medical equipment at Asaba Specialist Hospital, Warri Central Hospital, and Delta State University Teaching Hospital in Oghara, all aimed at enhancing healthcare delivery and minimizing medical tourism,” he said.

Aniagwu stressed that some projects might be opened for public use without formal inaugurations. “There are simply too many. In certain cases, members of the State Executive Council will be delegated to oversee inaugurations,” he clarified.

The commissioner reaffirmed Governor Oborevwori’s dedication to the comprehensive development of the state, stating that governance will remain a priority even amidst increasing political activities.

“Governor Oborevwori has directed all cabinet members and agency heads to stay focused. Governance will not be neglected. For every project completed, payments are made promptly after certification, demonstrating our careful resource management,” Aniagwu assured.

He dismissed concerns from critics, asserting, “Anyone suggesting that the administration is losing its grip is mistaken. The Governor is firmly committed to delivering results.”

Regarding job creation, Aniagwu highlighted that the administration has empowered over 250,000 residents of Delta through various programs coordinated by inter-ministerial departments and agencies, including the D-CARES grant initiative.

On the issue of security, he noted the government’s proactive measures to address insecurity. “The Inspector General of Police was recently in the state to commission operational vehicles, and we have also improved street lighting in urban areas,” he added.

When discussing rising housing costs in Asaba and other regions, Aniagwu announced that the government is working to expand livable spaces through a housing initiative that includes the construction of 50 residential units in each local government area. The pilot phase in Ozoro, Owa-Oyibu, and Kwale features 30 three-bedroom flats and 20 two-bedroom flats.

In conclusion, he emphasized that the administration will continue to operate with transparency, efficiency, and a focus on the needs of the people, ensuring ongoing progress throughout Delta State.
