In a significant push to enhance infrastructure and deliver on promises made to riverine communities, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has set a target for the Ayakoromo Bridge project to be completed by early 2027.
Governor Oborevwori acknowledged the prolonged delays that the important project has faced over the years but reaffirmed his dedication to ensuring that it reaches completion on time.
During a recent inspection of the Ayakoromo Bridge site over the Forcados River, along with a 3km access road in the Ughelli South and Burutu local government areas, he highlighted the importance of the 612-meter bridge, which features 18 spans, each spaced 24 meters apart, for the residents of Egbo-Ide and Ayakoromo.
While the contract for the bridge was awarded prior to his administration, he ensured that the contractor was re-engaged and brought back to the site.
“This project holds immense significance for me and the community. The contractor has indicated early 2027 as the completion date, but we would be delighted to see it finished sooner,” he stated.
“I am optimistic that the contractor will meet their commitments, and I have instructed them to expedite the work. This bridge is essential for connecting nearby villages.
“The excitement among the people is palpable, even though they were unaware of my visit. This enthusiasm underscores how vital the bridge is to both communities and others in the vicinity.”
Earlier, Governor Oborevwori inspected the Trans-Warri Road and Bridges Project in Warri South Local Government Area.
He noted that this initiative will improve connectivity and generate economic benefits for both urban and rural populations.
“This project is crucial for our people because it links us with rural residents and broadens opportunities. The happiness displayed by the local residents as we arrived was evident; elders and villagers greeted us with joy.
“This project holds particular significance for the Itsekiri nation, which is why I am committed to overseeing its completion.
“I was here for an inspection in September 2024, and I return today to assess progress. I believe that we will inaugurate this project by early next year, having been delayed for nearly 19 years.
“We will not accept any further delays beyond the established timelines. Under our MORE Agenda, we are dedicated to delivering more for the people of Delta State, in alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” he affirmed.
Governor Oborevwori also announced plans to construct two jetties in the area and explained that due to the rainy season, the construction firm is allowing the newly filled areas to settle to ensure road stability.
He urged the company to expedite their work to achieve project completion within his first term in office.
